  • Curt Casali C | ATL

Mariners' Curt Casali: On base twice in rare start

Casali went 0-for-2 with two walks and a run in a win over the Angels on Monday.

Casali had been out of the lineup in six of the eight games prior to Monday and played a full game in only one of the two contests he had started in that sample. However, he put in a full nine behind the dish Monday with Cal Raleigh (thumb) sidelined and was reasonably productive by displaying a discerning eye at the plate. Casali has a couple of serviceable offensive seasons on his resume from his days with the Reds, but he's limped to a .111 average and .421 OPS over the 33 plate appearances he's logged across 10 games with the Mariners thus far.

  • Kevin Plawecki: Rangers interested

Sources indicate the Rangers are interested in signing Plawecki, who was designated for assignment by the Red Sox last Friday, Robert Murray of FanSided reports.

Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News confirmed the team's interest, adding that Plawecki might be a candidate for a backup role in 2023. Plawecki is considered a popular clubhouse guy and teammate, per Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com, and his DFA prompted consternation among members of the Red Sox.

  • Luke Maile C | KC

Guardians' Luke Maile: Goes yard Monday

Maile went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Monday's 11-4 win over the Twins.

Maile sparked the Guardians' four-run rally in the eighth inning with a solo shot. The catcher has gone 4-for-25 (.160) across 11 games in September, though he's only logged an at-bat in eight of those contests. He's now slashing .221/.301/.337 with three homers, 16 RBI, 18 runs scored and 10 doubles through 186 plate appearances as the backup to Austin Hedges.

  • Joey Bart C | ATL

Giants' Joey Bart: Riding pine Monday

Bart isn't in the lineup Monday against the Rockies, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Bart has struck out in eight of his last nine at-bats and will watch Monday's contest from the dugout. Austin Wynns will take over behind the dish and bat ninth.

  • Kevin Plawecki: Released by Red Sox

Plawecki was released by Boston on Monday, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

After being designated for assignment by Boston on Friday, the 31-year-old backstop will have to search for a new organization. His .574 OPS in 2022 is his lowest mark since 2016 and is part of the reason why he ended up falling behind Connor Wong and Reese McGuire on the depth chart.

  • Tomas Nido C | DET

Mets' Tomas Nido: Poaching work from McCann

Nido will start at catcher and bat ninth in Monday's game against the Brewers.

The hot-hitting Nido seems to have temporarily settled in ahead of James McCann on the depth chart at catcher. He'll stick in the lineup for the third time in four games after going 11-for-22 with five extra-base hits (two home runs, three doubles) and a walk over his last six starts.

  • Omar Narvaez C | HOU

Brewers' Omar Narvaez: Day off Monday

Narvaez isn't starting Monday against the Mets.

Narvaez is on the bench for the second time in the last three games after he went 0-for-4 with a strikeout Sunday against the Yankees. Victor Caratini will take over behind the dish and bat eighth.

  • Elias Diaz C | TEX

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Retreats to bench

Diaz isn't starting Monday against San Francisco, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports.

Diaz is getting a day off after he went 1-for-7 with two RBI, a walk and two strikeouts over the last two games. Brian Serven will start behind the dish and bat ninth.

  • Eric Haase C | SF

Tigers' Eric Haase: Riding pine Monday

Haase isn't in the lineup Monday against Baltimore.

Haase went 0-for-4 with a strikeout Sunday and will take a seat for the second time in the last three games. Tucker Barnhart is starting behind the dish and batting eighth.

  • James McCann C | ARI

Mets' James McCann: Remains out of lineup

McCann isn't starting Monday against the Brewers.

McCann has split playing time behind the dish recently and will head to the bench for a second consecutive game. Tomas Nido is starting behind the plate and batting ninth.
