Maldonado is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

Maldonado and Elias Diaz have alternated starts behind the plate over the last six games. Neither backstop has been able to get much going offensively this season, with Maldonado producing a .560 OPS in 157 plate appearances and Diaz generating a .576 OPS over 218 plate appearances.

Diaz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics.

Diaz will get a breather after starting behind the plate the previous two nights. Victor Caratini will handle catching duties Sunday.

Haase will start at catcher and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Marlins.

William Contreras will stick in the lineup at designated hitter in a rare day off from catching, allowing Haase to enter the starting nine for just the 16th time all season. Haase carries a .224/.278/.358 slash line into Sunday's contest.

Fermin is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians.

Fermin had started three of the Royals' previous four games, but he'll get a breather while Salvador Perez covers first base and Luke Maile gets a turn behind the plate. Though the Royals recently bolstered their lineup with the acquisition of Randal Grichuk, the absence of Jac Caglianone (hamstring) should allow Fermin's playing time to remain relatively stable while Perez continues to see more starts at first base or designated hitter rather than catcher.

Teel is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.

Teel will get a breather after he caught all nine innings of Saturday night's 6-1 loss. Edgar Quero will spell Teel behind the plate in the series finale.

Jansen is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.

Jansen will receive a breather for the series finale after he had started behind the plate in each of the Rays' previous three contests. Matt Thaiss will handle catching duties for Tampa Bay on Sunday.

Herrera is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Herrera and James McCann had alternated starts behind the plate in each of the previous nine games, but McCann will collect a second straight start Sunday. The two backstops will continue to split the workload until Gabriel Moreno (finger) returns from the 60-day injured list.

Interim manager Tony Mansolino said that Rutschman (oblique) is scheduled to be activated from the 10-day injured list Monday, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Rutschman has gone 2-for-15 with a double in four rehab games and is on the cusp of rejoining the big club. The 27-year-old has been on the shelf with a strained oblique for over a month. He was in the midst of an underwhelming campaign prior to the injury with a .227/.319/.372 slash line in 276 plate appearances.

Smith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.

Smith went 3-for-8 with a walk and a run while starting the first two games of the series. Dalton Rushing will step in behind the plate and bat eighth versus Boston righty Walker Buehler.

Goodman is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles.

Goodman will get a routine breather for the day game after he went 0-for-3 while catching seven innings of Saturday night's 18-0 loss. Austin Nola will replace Goodman behind the dish.
