Perez was removed in the bottom of the seventh inning of Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader with the White Sox due to a sprained left thumb. He went 1-for-3 with a base hit and two strikeouts before exiting the contest.

Kansas City deployed Perez as its designated hitter for the front end of the twin bill, presumably with the intention of having him handle catching duties in the nightcap. In light of Perez's injury, however, MJ Melendez may have to pull double duty behind the plate unless the Royals call up another catcher from the minors prior to Game 2. The extent of Perez's sprained thumb may not be known until the conclusion of the doubleheader.

Jansen will sit Tuesday against the Mariners.

Jansen has now started just twice in four games since returning from an oblique injury Saturday. It's unclear if his playing time will pick up once he's further removed from the injured list or if he and Alejandro Kirk, who starts Tuesday, will continue an even split behind the plate going forward.

Barnhart will sit Tuesday against Tampa Bay, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Barnhart hits the bench after starting five of the last six games behind the plate. Eric Haase will take over and catch for Beau Brieske.

Vazquez will sit Tuesday against the Astros, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

Vazquez finds himself on the bench for the second time in three games and his third time in the last six contests. Kevin Plawecki will take over behind the plate.

D'Arnaud will sit Tuesday against Milwaukee.

D'Arnaud hits the bench for the second time in three games. He's gone hitless in his last four contests. William Contreras will take over behind the plate.

The Rockies are expected to select Serven's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque ahead of Tuesday's game against the Giants, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports.

He'll serve as Colorado's new No. 2 catcher behind Elias Diaz, after the Rockies optioned Dom Nunez to Albuquerque following Monday's 7-6 loss in the series opener. Aside from getting the occasional breather in a day game after a night game, Diaz should see the overwhelming share of starts behind the dish, so Serven may end up playing less than the typical backup catcher. The 27-year-old is heading to the big leagues for the first time after submitting a .912 OPS in 96 plate appearances at Albuquerque this season.

Stephenson (head) will catch and bat fifth Tuesday against the Guardians.

Stephenson left Saturday's game against the Pirates after taking a foul ball off his mask, but he passed concussion tests. He sat out Sunday but is ready to reclaim his regular role following Monday's scheduled off day.

Mets manager Buck Showalter said McCann underwent successful surgery on his left wrist Tuesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Showalter noted that McCann's procedure to repair a fractured hamate bone will likely keep the backstop on the shelf until late June. While McCann is on the mend from surgery, Tomas Nido and Patrick Mazeika are expected to split work behind the dish.

Nido will sit for the first half of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals.

Unsurprisingly, the Mets won't ask Nido to catch two games in one day. Patrick Mazeika will catch for Trevor Williams in the afternoon contest, with Nido presumably lined up to start the nightcap.

Perez is starting at designated hitter and batting third in Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader versus the White Sox.

Perez won't be behind the plate but he'll still be in the lineup for an 11th consecutive contest. His bat has heated up recently, producing 12 hits, including five for extra bases, while also adding seven RBI and four runs over 43 at-bats in his last 10 contests.
