  • Mitch Garver C | SEA

Twins' Mitch Garver: Resting in series finale

Garver is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees.

Though he'll take a seat in the series finale, Garver appears to have leapfrogged Jason Castro for the top spot on the depth chart at catcher. Garver was behind the plate for five of the past seven contests and connected on his sixth home run of the season in Saturday's 7-3 victory.

  • Dodgers' Travis d'Arnaud: Signed by Dodgers

D'Arnaud has signed with the Dodgers, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

The veteran backstop was cut loose by the Mets this week, but he's found a new home quickly, as he was spotted getting fitted for a cap in the Dodgers clubhouse Sunday. The Dodgers will carry three catchers with Austin Barnes and Russell Martin having split duties so far this season, and manager Dave Roberts said d'Arnaud could also see action in the infield and outfield, per Jorge Castillo of The Los Angeles Times. Per Plunkett, Matt Beaty was sent to Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding move.

  • Padres' Austin Hedges: Heads to bench

Hedges is not in the lineup Sunday against the Dodgers.

Hedges sat for two games in a row early in the week but then returned to the lineup for three straight. Francisco Mejia gets the start Sunday.

  • James McCann C | ARI

White Sox's James McCann: Sitting out Sunday

McCann is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.

McCann heads to the bench after starting eight of the White Sox's last nine games, with two of those assignments coming at designated hitter. The 28-year-old has opened his tenure in Chicago with a .352/.395/.563 slash line and should stick as the No. 1 backstop ahead of Welington Castillo so long as he's swinging the bat well.

  • Red Sox's Christian Vazquez: Sitting Sunday

Vazquez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Vazquez sits for the second time this weekend while Sandy Leon receives a turn behind the plate. The 28-year-old Vazquez still has a stranglehold on the top spot on the depth chart, but he won't be asked to handle the overwhelming share of starts like many No. 1 backstops around the league.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

    Nationals' Yan Gomes: Resting Sunday

Gomes is not in the lineup Sunday against the Phillies.

Gomes sits for the second time in three games. Kurt Suzuki gets the start behind the plate.

  • Chad Wallach C | ATH

Marlins' Chad Wallach: Filling in for Alfaro

Wallach will start at catcher and bat seventh Sunday against the Braves, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

Wallach is entering the lineup for just the second time in eight games with top backstop Jorge Alfaro receiving a maintenance day. The non-contending Marlins don't have much incentive to even out the distribution of starts behind the plate with Alfaro viewed as a member of their near- and long-term core, so expect Wallach's playing time to remain fairly scarce throughout the season, unless an injury to Alfaro intervenes.

  • Royals' Martin Maldonado: Resting Sunday

Maldonado is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.

Maldonado will sit out the series finale as part of a planned maintenance day. No. 2 catcher Cam Gallagher will slot in behind the dish, working in a battery with Brad Keller.

  • Indians' Kevin Plawecki: Gets second start of series

Plawecki will start at catcher and bat ninth Sunday against the Mariners, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Plawecki was previously behind the plate in Friday's series opener, going hitless in three at-bats in the Tribe's 2-1 win. Despite picking up his second start in three days, Plawecki still looks to be locked in as the No. 2 catcher behind Roberto Perez, whose defense prowess provides greater value to the Indians than Plawecki's on-base skills.

  • Indians' Roberto Perez: Gets another day off

Perez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Perez finds himself on the bench for the second time in three days, but it's still believed that he's the Tribe's preferred option behind the plate. The 30-year-old's defensive acumen and experience working with the Cleveland pitching staff helps keep his spot atop the depth chart secure, but he's offering little assistance to fantasy owners. Entering play Sunday, Perez maintains a .227 average to go with three home runs, seven RBI and four runs across 76 plate appearances.
