  • Jorge Alfaro: Reaches free agency

Alfaro opted out of his minor-league contract with the Brewers on Monday and was granted his release, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Alfaro has spent the entire 2025 season at Triple-A Nashville, slashing .244/.285/.430 with 15 home runs and 12 stolen bases over 326 plate appearances. With the 32-year-old catcher being denied a promotion to the majors to begin September, Alfaro will now look to find an opportunity elsewhere before the season winds down.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Catches nine innings at Triple-A

Alvarez (thumb/finger) was able to catch all nine innings of Sunday's game with Triple-A Syracuse, and he appears to be close to returning from the injured list, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

The 23-year-old backstop landed on the IL on Aug. 18 due to a right thumb injury that will likely require offseason surgery, and Alvarez's digits continued to take a beating on a rehab assignment last week when he was hit by a pitch and fractured his lefty pinky finger Wednesday. Incredibly, he was only sidelined until Saturday before resuming his rehab stint, and pain tolerance appears to be the biggest hurdle before he'll be able to return to the Mets. That said, over his two games this weekend with Syracuse he went 1-for-9 with six strikeouts, and trying to play through injuries to both hands isn't going to help his performance as a hitter.

  • Riley Adams C | WAS

Nationals' Riley Adams: Receiving Labor Day off

Adams is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Marlins.

The Nationals are kicking off a three-game set versus Miami with a day game, so Adams will receive a breather after he caught all nine innings of the team's 7-4 loss to the Rays on Sunday afternoon. C.J. Stubbs will draw the start behind the plate in the series opener.

  • Liam Hicks C | MIA

Marlins' Liam Hicks: Taking seat against southpaw

Hicks is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals.

The Nationals are sending lefty Andrew Alvarez to the hill for the series opener, so Hicks will head to the bench along with another lefty-hitting lineup regular in Troy Johnston. Hicks closed August with a .267/.359/.344 slash line, one home run, eight RBI and 14 runs over 28 games.

  • Phillies' Garrett Stubbs: Gets September call-up

The Phillies recalled Stubbs from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday.

Stubbs is up with the big club to serve as its third catcher in September. The 32-year-old has a career .215 average and seven home runs in 198 games in the majors. He hit .265 with eight home runs and five steals in 71 games at Triple-A this season.

  • Ali Sanchez C | BOS

Red Sox's Ali Sanchez: Back with Boston

The Red Sox acquired Sanchez from the Mets on Sunday in exchange for cash.

Sanchez had been on a minor-league deal with the Mets after signing with the organization Aug. 23, but he'll end up joining the Red Sox's 28-man active roster after being dealt back to Boston, per Tim Healey of The Boston Globe. The Red Sox had previously claimed the 28-year-old backstop off waivers from Toronto on Aug. 8, and he appeared in one game for the big club before being cast off the 40-man roster. He won't be in line for much playing time in September as the Red Sox's No. 3 catcher behind Carlos Narvaez and Connor Wong.

  • Red Sox's Carlos Narvaez: Resting Monday

Narvaez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians.

Narvaez will take a seat for Monday's day game after he had started behind the plate in three of Boston's previous four contests. Connor Wong will handle catching duties in the series opener.

  • Rockies' Braxton Fulford: Big performance Sunday

Fulford went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, two runs scored and an RBI on Sunday against the Cubs.

Fulford briefly got spot starts as Colorado's designated hitter, but he's shifted to a more traditional backup catcher of late and started only six of the team's last 14 games. He had one of his best offensive performances of the season Sunday, delivering his fourth multi-hit performance in 22 starts.

  • Braves' Drake Baldwin: Makes impact off bench

Baldwin went 1-for-1 with a two-run home run and a walk in Sunday's 3-1 win over Philadelphia.

Baldwin gave way to Sean Murphy behind the plate to start this game. In the end, Baldwin was part of Atlanta's build-up to tie the game in the eighth inning before he swatted the decisive homer in the top of the ninth. This was the rookie's 100th game, and he's up to 15 homers on the year while adding 62 RBI, 41 runs scored and a .280/.351/.462 slash line. He was right in line with those marks in August, batting .284 (23-for-81) with 21 RBI over 23 games for the month.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Rips homer Sunday

Contreras went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Sunday's loss to Toronto.

Contreras opened the game's scoring with his two-run shot in the first inning before adding an RBI single in the third. It was his 17th long ball of the year and 11th in his last 31 contests. He entered the All-Star break with a disappointing .699 OPS, but he now owns a .259/.355/.410 slash line through 583 plate appearances. Contreras has gone 49-for-171 (.287) in 42 games since the All-Star break.
