Brett Sullivan will start at catcher and bat ninth in the Padres' series opener versus St. Louis. Campusano was also on the bench for Wednesday's series finale against the Rockies but entered to deliver a pinch-hit RBI single in the bottom of the seventh. He seems to be healthy.

  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Sitting Friday

Langeliers isn't in Oakland's lineup Friday against Detroit.

Langeliers has gone just 1-for-15 with nine strikeouts over his last five games, so he'll sit in favor of Tyler Soderstrom as the A's look for more production from behind the plate.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Not in lineup Friday

Alvarez is out of the lineup Friday versus the Phillies.

Alvarez has been sharing starts this week with Omar Narvaez, who is behind the plate and batting ninth for the Mets on Friday at Philadelphia. Alvarez went 0-for-3 with an RBI sac fly in Thursday's series-opening loss.

  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Sitting Friday

Stephenson isn't in the Reds' lineup Friday against the Pirates.

Stephenson is just 2-for-22 across his last six games, and his offensive woes will now cause him to miss his second start in a row. Luke Maile will start behind the plate Friday and bat ninth.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Racks up three hits

Rutschman went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored in Thursday's 5-2 loss to the Guardians.

Rutschman has hit safely in five straight games, and he has at least one double in his last four contests. The catcher is slashing .273/.368/.430 with 19 home runs, 75 RBI, 82 runs scored, one stolen base and 29 doubles through 146 contests overall. After a stint as the leadoff hitter, Rutschman has returned to the No. 2 spot in the order.

  • Tom Murphy C | SF

Mariners' Tom Murphy: Set for imaging Friday

Murphy is slated to have imaging performed on his injured thumb Friday in order to determine whether he's ready to return to baseball activities, the team's official site reports.

Murphy suffered a thumb sprain in mid-August but subsequently suffered a small fracture in the thumb in early September, and he's been shut down altogether since Sept. 11. Friday's evaluation should give the Mariners a clearer picture of whether he'll return before the end of the regular season. Murphy's been a key contributor in 2023 with an .873 OPS across 158 plate appearances.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Cubs' Yan Gomes: Sitting out day game

Caratini went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Thursday's 6-0 win over the Cardinals.

Caratini drew his 51st start behind the dish for the Brewers and made the most of it. His seventh homer of the year came in the sixth inning and chased Miles Mikolas from the game. Caratini has provided solid production as William Contreras' backup in Milwaukee with a .253/.327/.382 slash line over 57 games.
