Alvarez (knee) entered Sunday's game as a pinch hitter and struck out in Houston's 4-3 loss San Diego.

Alvarez, who left Saturday's game after fouling a ball off his knee, was improved enough to hit, but he likely would have been removed for a pinch runner had he reached base. It's unclear if the Astros are comfortable using him at designated hitter for multiple at-bats, thereby exposing the knee to the rigors of baserunning.

Reyes went 4-for-4 with a home run, a double, a walk, three RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's 11-5 win over Boston.

The designated hitter was a beast from the No. 3 spot in the lineup Sunday, notching his first multi-hit effort since Aug. 28. Reyes has swatted four homers in his last 11 games despite having an 0-for-14 skid across four contests in the middle of that stretch. He's up to a .260/.335/.549 slash line with 26 long balls, 70 RBI, 48 runs scored and four stolen bases across 376 plate appearances overall.

Choi (hamstring) went 0-for-5 with an RBI and two walks over both games of a doubleheader with the Rays' Florida Complex League team Saturday.

The recovering veteran got a solid workload in during a twin bill Saturday against the FCL Braves squad, going eight innings at first base in Game 1 and filling the DH role while logging three additional plate appearances in Game 2. The team's official site reports Choi is expected to travel with the Rays on the road trip that begins Monday in Boston and could be activated in time for that contest.

Rooker is on the bench for Sunday's game against the Rays.

Rooker could continue losing playing time, as he's hitting .191 with 13 strikeouts in his last 21 at-bats. Jake Cave is playing left field and batting seventh Sunday.

Cabrera is not in the lineup for Sunday's game in Cincinnati.

An 0-for-3, two-walk performance Saturday lowered Cabrera's average to .273 with two home runs, six RBI and six walks in his last 10 games. With no designated hitter in play, he takes a seat while Jonathan Schoop mans first base.

Ohtani went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and was caught stealing in a 4-1 win over Texas on Saturday.

One night after getting the win on the mound, Ohtani extended Los Angeles' lead to 4-0 with a 426-foot bomb to right off Texas starter Kolby Allard in the sixth inning and later singled in the eighth but was caught stealing second. The phenom's MLB-leading 43rd long ball snapped an 0-for-10 skid at the plate, though his ninth caught stealing also leads the majors.

Alvarez (knee) underwent X-rays on Saturday that came back negative, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Alvarez was diagnosed with a left knee contusion after exiting Saturday's game against San Diego, and he doesn't appear to be dealing with any structural damage. Manager Dusty Baker is optimistic that the 24-year-old won't require a trip to the injured list, so he should be considered day-to-day.

Canha went 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBI and two total runs scored in Saturday's 10-8 loss to Toronto.

After an underwhelming August, Canha has started to regain his composure at the plate by posting an eight-game hitting streak. He's gone 10-for-31 (.323) with four homers, 10 RBI and eight runs scored in that stretch, with all four long balls coming in his last five contests. The 32-year-old's slash line is at .239/.365/.415 with 16 homers, 53 RBI, 81 runs scored and 12 stolen bases through 518 plate appearances overall.

Alvarez had to be helped off the field after he fouled a ball off his left knee Saturday, and he's considered day-to-day. The 24-year-old will likely be evaluated to determine the extent of the issue, but it doesn't appear as though he's dealing with a serious injury.

Alvarez exited Saturday's game against the Padres with an apparent leg injury, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Alvarez went down after fouling a ball off his left leg in the top of the fifth inning, and he needed some assistance to get off the field. He went 1-for-1 with a walk prior to his departure, and it's not yet clear whether he'll be available for Sunday's series finale in San Diego.
