  • Kyle Lewis DH | ARI

Mariners' Kyle Lewis: Getting rare day off

Lewis is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Dylan Moore will bat leadoff and fill in as the Mariners' center fielder in place of Lewis, who is getting his second day off of the season. The break may do Lewis some good, as he's gone hitless with four strikeouts in 11 at-bats over his last three games, dropping his season average to .292.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Sitting against righty

Ohtani is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

The lefty-hitting Ohtani's move to the bench for Saturday's game wasn't much of a surprise with a southpaw (Kyle Freeland) on the hill for Colorado, but his absence from Sunday's lineup is more conspicuous with a right-hander (Ryan Castellani) starting. With an off day coming Monday, Angels manager Joe Maddon may just have wanted to give Ohtani a more extended breather due to his rough start to September. Ohtani is slashing .192/.300/.192 with eight strikeouts in 26 at-bats this month.

  • Luis Torrens DH | NYM

Mariners' Luis Torrens: First RBI on new club

Torrens went 2-for-4 with a two-run double in a win over the Diamondbacks on Saturday.

The Mariners surprisingly jumped on Diamondbacks starter Zac Gallen early, and Torrens' timely two-bagger capped a four-run first inning for Seattle. Torrens has hit the ground running since arriving via trade from the Padres at the deadline, hitting safely in four of his last six games and churning out a pair of multi-hit efforts within that span.

  • Byron Buxton CF | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Out of Sunday's lineup

Buxton is not in Sunday's lineup against Cleveland.

He is hitting .320 with three home runs in 25 at-bats this month, but surprisingly has not attempted a stolen base over those eight games. LaMonte Wade will start in center field and hit seventh.

  • Brent Rooker DH | ATH

Twins' Brent Rooker: To 10-day IL

Rooker was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a fractured right forearm.

This was inevitable after Rooker was hit by a pitch that broke his right forearm Saturday. He should be fully recovered for spring training 2021. Max Kepler (groin) was activated in a corresponding move.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Playing in sim game

Stanton (hamstring) will get two or three at-bats in during a simulated game Sunday at the alternate training site, Max Goodman of Sports Illustrated reports.

If all goes well, he will do the same Monday as he tracks toward an activation sometime next week. Aaron Judge is also close to joining Stanton and Gio Urshela at the alternate site, so the Yankees could be getting three key bats back sometime next week.

  • Ji-Man Choi 1B | NYM

Rays' Ji-Man Choi: Out 2-3 weeks

Choi was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a Grade 1 hamstring strain, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

Manager Kevin Cash said it will be a 2-to-3 week absence for Choi, which likely means the end of his regular season. Nate Lowe looks like the obvious replacement at first base for the remainder of the campaign, with Mike Brosseau also getting starts against lefties.

  • Eloy Jimenez DH | TOR

White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Logs three hits

Jimenez went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, one run scored and one RBI on Saturday against the Tigers.

Jimenez tallied three of Chicago's 19 hits in an offensive barrage Saturday. He doubled in a run in the opening inning and came around to score after reaching base on a single two frames later. Jimenez has hit four doubles and one home run during his modest five-game hitting streak. Overall, he's hitting .296/.333/.574 with 12 home runs, 23 runs scored and 34 RBI across 180 plate appearances.

  • Byron Buxton CF | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Another homer against Cleveland

Buxton went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer against Cleveland on Saturday.

Buxton took Zach Plesac deep in the fourth inning for his eighth home run of the season. The performance continued his recent power surge, as Buxton now has three long balls in his past four starts, including a pair in the team's weekend series against Cleveland. Despite rarely drawing a walk, Buxton has put together a decent .247/.250/.527 line to go along with 13 runs scored and 19 RBI across 96 plate appearances this season.

  • Brent Rooker DH | ATH

Twins' Brent Rooker: Out with fractured forearm

Rooker will miss the rest of the 2020 season after suffering a fractured right forearm Saturday against the Indians, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

The 25-year-old sustained a displaced fracture of his right forearm when he was hit by a pitch during Saturday's contest, an injury which will be addressed via surgery. Rooker joined the Twins last week and went 6-for-19 with one home run, two doubles, four runs and five RBIs over seven games in his first taste of major-league ball.
