  • Ji-Man Choi 1B | NYM

Rays' Ji-Man Choi: Delivers in pinch-hit capacity

Choi pinch hit for Hunter Renfroe in the 10th inning of Sunday's win against the Marlins and laced a game-tying RBI double in his one at-bat.

Choi's timely two-bagger brought home Joey Wendle to knot the score at 4-4 after Matt Joyce had singled home Lewis Brinson in the top of the 10th to give Miami a temporary one-run lead. Choi opened September in a brief 0-for-7 skid over his first two games, but he's bounced back with a pair of doubles, a walk and Sunday's clutch RBI in his subsequent pair of contests.

  • Miguel Cabrera DH | DET

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Hitting streak reaches 13 games

Cabrera went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored Sunday in the Tigers' 10-8 win over the Twins.

With the two base knocks, Cabrera extended his hitting streak to a season-best 13 games. He's slashing .400/.436/.500 over that span, allowing his season-long OPS to climb from .588 to .710. The veteran will serve as the Tigers' designated hitter and will bat third in Monday's series finale in Minnesota.

  • Brent Rooker DH | ATH

Twins' Brent Rooker: Takes advantage of opportunity

Rooker went 1-for-5 with a double, two RBI and one run scored Sunday against the Tigers.

Rooker started the game in the place of Nelson Cruz (hip) and delivered a double in the bottom of the fifth inning that plated two. He's now recorded hits in each of his last three appearances, though they were all singles prior to this performance. If Cruz misses any more time, Rooker is a candidate for increased at-bats given the additional absence of Max Kepler (groin).

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Takes seat for finale

Ohtani is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros.

The Angels are facing a lefty (Framber Valdez) and just played a doubleheader Saturday, so it seems like a decent time to get Ohtani a rest. Ohtani has mostly struggled at the dish this season with a .192/.297/.367 batting line, and it's fair to wonder if the strained flexor pronator mass is playing a part.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Advancing in recovery

Stanton (hamstring) has been performing baseball activities and running up to about 80 percent, Brendan Kuty of NJ Advance Media reports.

According to Yankees manager Aaron Boone, Stanton has turned a corner and could be ahead of fellow outfielder Aaron Judge (calf) in terms of a recovery timeline. "Giancarlo has had a really good several days. Think he ran some bases (Friday). Kind of half-speed running. He's up to about 80 percent running. He's been doing a lot of baseball activities as far as hitting off the high-velocity machine, throwing. So he's probably, possibly a little head of Judgey," Boone stated. Stanton has been on the injured list since Aug. 9 with a left hamstring strain.

  • Byron Buxton CF | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Riding pine Sunday

Buxton is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.

Jake Cave gets the start in center field, batting seventh. Buxton has gone 4-for-12 (all singles) with two strikeouts in four games since returning from a shoulder injury. Overall, Buxton has a .238/.241/.438 slash line with five homers and one stolen base.

  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Red Sox's J.D. Martinez: Mashes fourth homer

Martinez went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a pair of walks in Saturday's 9-8 win over the Blue Jays.

Martinez hit the first of three Red Sox homers in the second inning, a solo shot to tie the game at one. The 33-year-old has struggled at the plate this year with a .235/.323/.419 slash line, four homers, 18 RBI and 15 runs scored through 36 games. He's picked up the pace recently, going 9-for-24 (.375) with three RBI and two runs scored in his last six contests.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Out of lineup for nightcap

Ohtani is not in the lineup for Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader with the Astros.

Ohtani was productive in Saturday's opening game, going 1-for-3 with an RBI, a run, a walk and a stolen base, but manager Joe Maddon will not overextend his regular designated hitter, instead opting to use Mike Trout in that spot for the back end of the twin bill.

  • Jorge Soler DH | LAA

Royals' Jorge Soler: Leaves early Saturday

Soler was removed from Saturday's game against the White Sox after his first at-bat, Josh Vernier of 610 Sports reports.

It's not yet clear why Soler was taken out of Saturday's contest, but it could have been because of the sore back and oblique that cost him a game and part of another earlier this week. Soler was replaced in the game by Ryan McBroom.

  • Luis Torrens DH | NYM

Mariners' Luis Torrens: Walks in team debut

Torrens went 0-for-3 with a walk in a win over the Rangers on Friday, a game that marked his Mariners debut.

A trade-deadline arrival, Torrens is slated to serve as the primary catcher for what remains of the regular season. The former Padres prospect was slashing .273/.333./.364 in San Diego before the trade and has shown some offensive upside during his time in the minors. Despite the relatively nondescript batting line, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports Torrens made an impression on manager Scott Servais in the Mariners' skipper's first chance to see him up close. "He's very athletic. He bounced out on a swinging bunt and handled that ball with no problem," Servais said. "I thought his hands were fine. He's catching pitchers he's never caught before, so you're catching a [Yusei] Kikuchi, and his ball is cutting and sinking and doing things like that, I thought he handled himself really good."
