  • Luken Baker DH | STL

Cardinals' Luken Baker: Summoned from minors

The Cardinals recalled Baker from Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday.

Baker has slashed .231/.345/.535 with 32 home runs in 108 games this season at Memphis, which includes a 1.096 OPS versus left-handed pitching. The 27-year-old is blocked by Paul Goldschmidt at first base but figures to see some looks at designated hitter against southpaws.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Returns from injured list

The Cardinals reinstated Carpenter (back) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday.

The 38-year-old will end up missing only the 10-day minimum due to a back strain. Carpenter went 0-for-2 with two walks and two strikeouts in his lone start of August prior to landing on the shelf, and he's unlikely to see consistent at-bats for the Cardinals down the stretch.

  • Nationals' Travis Blankenhorn: Sent down to Triple-A

The Nationals optioned Blankenhorn to Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday.

Blankenhorn's playing time had been trending downward throughout August, and he'll give up his spot on the 26-man roster to Joey Gallo (hamstring), who was activated from the injured list Tuesday. Blankenhorn posted a meager .317 OPS in 32 plate appearances for the Nationals but is slashing .246/.328/.518 with Rochester.

Diamondbacks' Joc Pederson: Swats homer in win

Pederson went 1-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and an additional run scored in Monday's 9-6 win over the Marlins.

Pederson swatted his 20th home run of the season in the fifth inning, giving him at least one RBI in four consecutive games. The lefty-swinging designated hitter is turning in a strong second half, posting a line of .356/.500/.780 over 23 games since returning from the All-Star break.

Mets' J.D. Martinez: Swats 13th homer

Martinez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run during Monday's 4-3 win over the Orioles.

Martinez got the Mets on the board in the first inning, plating Mark Vientos with a two-run home run off lefty Trevor Rogers. In 392 plate appearances, Martinez is slashing .256/.343/.438 with 57 RBI and 37 runs. He has only one multi-hit game in his last 12 starts.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Belts another homer

Ohtani went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Sunday's 2-1 win against St. Louis.

Ohtani slugged his NL-leading 39th homer of the campaign in the fifth inning. It was his second long ball in as many games and his seventh through 16 contests in August. Ohtani is batting only .174 this month, but nine of his 12 hits (seven homers, one double and one triple) have gone for extra bases, and he's racked up excellent counting stats with 12 RBI, 11 runs and nine stolen bases.

  • Tyler Black DH | MIL

Brewers' Tyler Black: Absent from lineup again

Black is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's contest against the Guardians.

Since being recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Monday, Black has gone 1-for-11 over his four major-league appearances. He'll begin Sunday's contest in the dugout while William Contreras serves as the designated hitter for Sunday's series finale.

  • Marcell Ozuna DH | ATL

Braves' Marcell Ozuna: Another three hits in win

Ozuna went 3-for-3 with a three-run homer, a walk and three runs scored in Saturday's win over the Angels.

Ozuna crushed a hanging slider from Griffin Canning 437 feet over the wall in center field in his first at-bat to score Michael Harris and Austin Riley, giving the veteran slugger his 36th long ball of the campaign and his fifth this month. Ozuna added two leadoff singles in the contest, marking his second consecutive three-hit performance and his sixth multi-hit effort in his last 10 games overall. Over that latter stretch, he's batting .428 (18-for-42) with four homers, seven RBI and nine runs scored.

  • Joc Pederson DH | ARI

    Diamondbacks' Joc Pederson: Sitting Sunday

Pederson is absent from Sunday's lineup against Tampa Bay.

Despite right-hander Drew Rasmussen taking the mound for the Rays in Sunday's series finale, the lefty-hitting Pederson will begin the contest in the dugout. Since the All-Star break, Pederson is slashing .345/.478/.745 with 13 runs scored, six home runs and 16 RBI across 71 plate appearances. Randal Grichuk will serve as the designated hitter and bat sixth.

  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Mets' J.D. Martinez: Not in Sunday's lineup

Martinez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins.

Martinez has a .208/.333/.354 slash line through 14 games in August and will sit Sunday after starting the previous nine contests. Jesse Winker will serve as the designated hitter while Starling Marte (knee) is in right field in his return from the injured list.
