  • Darin Ruf DH | MIL

Giants' Darin Ruf: On base three times Saturday

Ruf went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, two walks and two total runs scored in Saturday's 6-5 win over Oakland.

The 35-year-old went back-to-back with Brandon Belt in the seventh inning, cutting San Francisco's deficit to one run. Ruf was also on base after a walk in the second inning when Kris Bryant homered. While his playing time has dried up with San Francisco's batters nearly at full health, Ruf has gone 11-for-34 (.324) with three homers, seven RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base in August. Ruf's path to playing time is as a short-side platoon option with Belt at first base or one of Alex Dickerson or LaMonte Wade in left field.

  • Brandon Belt DH | TOR

Giants' Brandon Belt: Crushes 17th long ball

Belt went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and a hit by pitch in Saturday's 6-5 win over Oakland.

The first baseman initiated a sequence of back-to-back homers with Darin Ruf in the seventh inning that pulled San Francisco within a run. Belt has cooled off dramatically after he was red-hot in his return from a six-week stint on the injured list. Over his last 10 games, the 33-year-old has gone just 3-for-31 with two homers, two RBI, three runs scored and a double. The cold stretch has dropped his season slash line to .238/.352/.533 across 253 plate appearances.

  • Mark Vientos DH | NYM

Mets' Mark Vientos: Back in action at Double-A

Vientos (undisclosed) rejoined the Double-A Binghamton lineup Monday after a two-week absence and has gone 3-for-12 with a home run, a walk and two RBI in his first three games back in action.

Binghamton never officially placed Vientos on the 7-day injured list, but he was believed to be inactive as a result of COVID-19-related protocols. The 21-year-old didn't take long to make an impact in his return, homering in his second start back with the Rumble Ponies. Vientos is hitting .280 with 21 home runs and 54 RBI in 65 games on the campaign.

  • Alex Dickerson DH | ATL

Giants' Alex Dickerson: Takes seat Saturday

Dickerson is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Athletics, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Consecutive two-hit showings have raised Dickerson's average to .476 with three extra-base hits and three RBI in his last 10 games. Darin Ruf is playing left field and batting cleanup Saturday.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Not starting Saturday

Turner is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Mets, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.

Turner went 0-for-3 with a walk and an RBI in Friday's contest, lowering his average to .231 in his last 10 games. Max Muncy will play third base Saturday, with Albert Pujols getting the start at first.

  • Jorge Soler DH | LAA

Braves' Jorge Soler: Logs 17th homer

Soler went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Friday's 3-0 win over the Orioles.

Soler was hot with three home runs across the first six games in the month of August, but he had cooled off recently, as he had hit just .158 with three doubles, three runs and an RBI across the last 10 contests. However, he rediscovered his power stroke with his 17th home run of the season in Friday's low-scoring contest. The 29-year-old has appeared in 30 games since the All-Star break, and he's hit .236 with 10 homers, 21 runs and 15 RBI during that time.

  • Brad Miller DH | SD

Phillies' Brad Miller: On bench against southpaw

Miller is not starting Friday against the Padres, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Miller will sit for the second day in a row with the Padres sending left-hander Blake Snell to the mound. Alec Bohm draws the start at first base as Rhys Hoskins (groin) remains on the injured list.

  • Brewers' Daniel Vogelbach: Restarts rehab assignment

The Brewers returned Vogelbach (hamstring/foot) to Triple-A Nashville on Thursday to resume his rehab assignment.

While rehabbing the strained left hamstring that has kept him on the shelf since late June, Vogelbach posted a monstrous 1.134 OPS in 11 games with Nashville before he was pulled off the rehab assignment after reportedly picking up a foot injury. Since he'll be heading back to Nashville just under a week later, the foot issue shouldn't be a concern for Vogelbach, but that doesn't necessarily mean he'll be activated anytime soon. With Rowdy Tellez excelling in a strong-side platoon at first base, the Brewers don't have the luxury of carrying the lefty-hitting Vogelbach on their bench, given that he's limited defensively to first base. Instead, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel speculates the Brewers will let Vogelbach play regularly at Nashville until his rehab window ends Sept. 1, the same day Milwaukee's 26-man active roster expands to 28.

  • Jesse Winker DH | NYM

Reds' Jesse Winker: Yet to resume baseball activities

Winker (ribs) hasn't yet resumed baseball activities, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Winker landed on the 10-day injured list with an intercostal strain Monday, and the Reds were initially hopeful that he'd be able to return when he's first eligible. However, manager David Bell said Thursday that he expects the 28-year-old to spend more than the minimum of 10 days on the shelf. A better timetable for Winker's return should come into focus once he resumes baseball activities.

  • Bryce Harper DH | PHI

Phillies' Bryce Harper: On-base streak ends

Harper went hitless across four plate appearances in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the Diamondbacks.

With a lineout and three popouts on the night, Harper saw an epic 24-game on-base streak come to an end. During that stretch, Harper slashed .352/.520/.803 with seven home runs and four stolen bases, propelling the Phillies up the standings along the way while improving his case for his second National League MVP award. He'll remain in the lineup Thursday as the Phillies look to avoid a series sweep in Arizona, batting third and manning right field.
