White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Multiple rehab games coming

Jimenez (abdomen) will spend 3-to-4 days on a rehab assignment with Double-A Birmingham before being re-evaluated, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

Jimenez was spotted exiting the White Sox' clubhouse Tuesday with a suitcase headed for Birmingham, so it appears he could begin his rehab assignment as soon as Wednesday and return perhaps as early as this weekend. The slugger has been out since early May following an emergency appendectomy.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Padres' Matt Carpenter: On bench against lefty

Carpenter is not in the lineup Tuesday versus the Nationals.

Carpenter enjoyed a big day in the Padres' series finale against the Red Sox on Sunday, but he'll start out on the bench for Tuesday's opener against Washington with left-hander MacKenzie Gore set to take the mound. Nelson Cruz is serving as the DH and Brandon Dixon will play first base.

  • Ji-Man Choi 1B | NYM

Pirates' Ji-Man Choi: Doing more baseball activities

Choi (Achilles) fielded grounders from his knees Tuesday in Pittsburgh, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.

Choi is easing back into baseball activities five weeks after being placed on the 10-day injured list because of a left Achilles strain. He was eventually transferred to the 60-day IL and probably won't be ready to return to the Pirates' active roster until late June or early July.

  • Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU

Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Blasts two homers in rout

Alvarez went 3-for-4 with two home runs, a walk, three total runs and five total RBI in a 12-2 win against the Brewers on Monday.

Alvarez smacked a 425-foot solo shot in the fifth inning and followed that with a grand slam in the sixth. He's up to 12 homers on the campaign and has knocked in 46 runs, second-most in the majors. Those marks put Alvarez on pace to easily exceed his career-best marks of 37 long balls and 104 RBI.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Red Sox's Justin Turner: No hits in return

Turner (knee) went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Monday's 2-1 loss to the Angels.

Turner missed both of the Red Sox's games over the weekend after leaving Friday's game with left knee soreness. The 38-year-old was back in the No. 3 spot in the lineup Monday while serving as the designated hitter. The 0-fer dropped his season average to .272, though he has hit safely in six of his last 10 contests with three home runs in that span.

  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Dodgers' J.D. Martinez: Goes deep twice

Martinez went 4-for-5 with two solo homers and three runs scored in Monday's win over Atlanta.

Martinez went deep to get the Dodgers on the board in the second inning and later clocked another homer in the seventh. It was his first multi-hit game since he collected four hits April 18. Martinez has three home runs in his last three games, giving him eight for the year with a .264/.310/.566 slash line through 142 plate appearances.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Red Sox's Justin Turner: Back in Boston's lineup

Turner (knee) is back in the Red Sox' lineup for Monday's game versus the Angels, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Turner exited Friday's game with left knee soreness and sat out the following two contests, but he's made the necessary improvement to give it a go Monday. He'll be the club's designated hitter and bat third against the Halos.

  • Byron Buxton DH | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Returns to lineup Monday

Buxton (knee) is back in the Twins' lineup for Monday's game against the Giants, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.

Buxton exited Saturday's game versus the Angels and sat out Sunday with some tightness around his right knee, but he apparently has checked out fine and is back in the lineup Monday. He will be the Twins' designated hitter and cleanup man.

  • Eloy Jimenez DH | TOR

White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Closing in on rehab assignment

Jimenez (abdomen) is getting close to going out on a rehab assignment, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Jimenez underwent an emergency appendectomy May 6 but has been working out lately without issue and his clearance for game action appears imminent. The slugger had stated previously that he hopes to be activated by the end of this week, and it would seem he has a shot to meet that goal.
