    Red Sox's J.D. Martinez: Exits with apparent injury

    Martinez was removed from Sunday's game against the Nationals in the top of the sixth inning with an apparent injury, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

    The nature and severity of Martinez's injury aren't yet clear, but he was replaced by a pinch hitter in the top of the sixth. He went 0-for-1 with a strikeout to begin the contest, and it's not yet clear when he'll be able to return.

    Ruf came off the injured list Thursday and started in each of the Giants' last three games, going 4-for-12 with a home run, a double and two RBI. Though he'll take a seat in the regular-season finale, Ruf could be in store for steady work at first base during the postseason with Brandon Belt sidelined with a fractured thumb.

    Blackmon is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports.

    The 35-year-old will close out the season on the bench for the Rockies, while Yonathan Daza enters the outfield mix Sunday. Blackmon has a .269/.349/.409 slash line with 13 homers, 78 RBI and 76 runs in 581 plate appearances this season.

    Dickerson has been out of the lineup since being hit by a pitch on the left foot Tuesday, though his appearance as a pinch hitter Saturday indicates he's close to being fully healthy. Kris Bryant will move to left field while LaMonte Wade starts in right Sunday.
