The Yankees reinstated Holmes (back) from the 15-day injured list Monday.

As expected, Holmes is ready to rejoin the Yankees for the start of a six-game week following a minimum-length stay on the shelf while he contended with a left lower back spasm. With 17 saves to go with a 2.39 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in 49 appearances this season, Holmes has been one of baseball's top late-inning relievers on the whole, but he was on shaky ground as the Yankees' closer prior to getting shut down with the injury, as he blew his last three save chances while yielding runs in four of his most recent five appearances. Though the Yankees might prefer to ease Holmes back into action coming off the injury, the team could immediately reinstall him as closer with Aroldis Chapman (leg) recently joining Scott Effross (shoulder) on the shelf. Lou Trivino now looks like the top threat to poach saves from Holmes, though it's possible manager Aaron Boone opts for a closer committee in the short term until one reliever emerges as the most-trusted option.

Bowlan was named the Texas League Pitcher of the Week on Monday.

Bowlan threw five scoreless innings for Double-A Northwest Arkansas versus Springfield on Sunday. He allowed two hits and two walks while striking out two. Bowlan's made six starts at the Double-A level since returning from Tommy John surgery, though he's struggled to a 6.48 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 18:9 K:BB over 25 innings. Sunday's outing matched his longest of the season at any level, and it may signal he's feeling more comfortable on the mound after the lengthy rehab process.

The Yankees plan to reinstate Holmes (back) from the 15-day injured list Monday, Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports.

New York already optioned Luke Bard to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to clear a spot on the 26-man active roster for Holmes, who will return to action after missing the minimum 15 days. Though the Yankees might prefer to ease Holmes back into the mix in a lower-leverage spot, the team may have to turn to him for closing duties right away after Aroldis Chapman (leg) recently joined Scott Effross (shoulder) on the IL. Along with Holmes, Lou Trivino is another candidate to pick up saves if manager Aaron Boone opts to take a committee approach at closer.

Mayers is slated to make his next start Tuesday against the Yankees in Anaheim.

After tossing 5.1 innings in long relief Aug. 17, Mayers was summoned into the Angels' six-man rotation last week as a replacement for the struggling Touki Toussaint. In his first start of the season last Wednesday in Tampa Bay, Mayers was excellent, as he struck out five over five shutout frames while scattering two hits and three walks. The home matchup with the Yankees isn't the softest landing spot, though it's perhaps more favorable than earlier in the season with New York having performed as a league-average offense (99 wRC+, 15th in MLB) since the All-Star break.

Heasley (2-7) gave up three earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven over five innings to earn the win in a 15-7 victory over the Padres on Sunday.

Heasley gave up a pair of home runs to Manny Machado but did just enough to earn his second win of the 2022 campaign. He threw 51 of his 85 pitches for strikes and tied his career-best with seven strikeouts. The 26-year-old rookie has an ERA of 5.22 and a WHIP of 1.54 in 70.2 innings pitched. The likelihood of Heasley picking up any more wins down the stretch will be linked to whether the Royals decide to let him go longer into games in his final handful of starts. He is expected to take the mound in a favorable matchup at Detroit later in the week.

Pivetta (9-10) allowed five runs on eight hits and three walks over five innings Sunday, striking out four and taking a loss against the Rays.

Pivetta never found a groove Sunday as he coughed up five runs, matching the total from his previous three starts combined. He was taken deep twice by Isaac Paredes, accounting for three of those runs. The 29-year-old righty saw his season ERA climb to 4.40 with a 143:54 K:BB through 26 starts. Pivetta is lined up to face the Rangers at home next week.

Soto allowed three runs on three hits and a walk while retiring just one batter before getting pulled in the ninth inning of Sunday's 9-8 win over the Rangers.

Soto came on in a non-save situation with the Tigers up 9-5 heading into the ninth. He got the first batter he faced, but then followed that up with a walk and a wild pitch before allowing a double, a home run and a single. That was enough for Detroit manager A.J. Hinch, who turned to Joe Jimenez to close out the game. The lefty Soto has been mostly solid this year with a 2.96 ERA coming into Sunday, but the righty Jimenez has pitched well too and could see more save opportunities moving forward depending on matchups.

Ort was recalled from Triple-A Worcester on Sunday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Ort was sent to the minors in mid-August but will rejoin the major-league bullpen as part of a move after Hirokazu Sawamura and Austin Davis were designated for assignment. Ort has posted a 9.00 ERA and 2.07 WHIP in 15 innings over 12 relief appearances in the big leagues this year.

Payamps (calf) retired the only batter he faced on a groundout to earn a hold in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Yankees.

Payamps has pitched twice since suffering a calf bruise in Thursday's game. He's made four scoreless appearances spanning 4.1 innings since he was claimed off waivers from Kansas City. In that stretch, he's given up four hits, struck out three and earned one win. Payamps has a 2.87 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 36:16 K:BB through 47 innings across 33 appearances between the A's and the Royals this year, mainly as a low-leverage option.

Puk struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the save in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Yankees.

Puk gave up two unearned runs in one inning versus the Yankees on Saturday, but he bounced back with a sharp effort Sunday. This was his fourth save of the season, all of which have come since July 22. He's had his ups and downs in August, but the southpaw has a clearer path to saves after Dany Jimenez (shoulder) was shut down for the season on Saturday. Zach Jackson will also be part of the closing committee, though save chances with the 48-81 Athletics could be tough to come by. Puk has a 2.53 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 60:16 K:BB while adding 17 holds, three blown saves and a 3-1 record through 53.1 innings this year.
