Akin surrendered one run on five hits and a walk while striking out six in Wednesday's loss to the Phillies. He did not factor into the decision.

The 26-year-old pitched well in this one, with his only run coming after he was pulled from the game. Andrew McCutchen launched a home run off of Eric Hanhold to plate Bryce Harper, who Akin allowed to reach before exiting. The outing snapped a seven-start streak of giving up a home run for the lefty, and the one walk was his lowest amount allowed since Aug. 10. He's lined up to face the Red Sox in his next start Tuesday.

Merryweather allowed a hit and a walk in a scoreless inning versus Tampa Bay on Wednesday. He did not factor in the decision.

This was the 29-year-old's first turn as an opener this season. Merryweather allowed a single to Randy Arozarena and walked Ji-Man Choi before getting the final two outs of the frame. Through 8.1 innings, Merryweather owns a 4.32 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 7:4 K:BB. He's added two saves and a hold in nine appearances this year after missing most of the season due to an oblique injury.

Chargois (6-1) pitched a perfect inning and struck out two, earning the win Wednesday versus Toronto.

The 30-year-old was the first reliever in the game after starter Luis Patino was pulled after three innings. Chargois has enjoyed his best major-league season with a 2.44 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 50:17 K:BB through 51.2 innings this year. While he entered Wednesday's game early, his 14 holds across 53 appearances between Tampa Bay and Seattle indicate he'll continue to be in the mix for high-leverage situations.

Patino allowed a hit, a walk and a hit batter while striking out one over three scoreless innings versus Toronto on Wednesday. He did not factor in the decision.

It's unclear why Patino was pulled from the game after just 37 pitches (25 strikes). The 21-year-old may be having his innings managed, but he was effective in a short start Wednesday. The right-hander lowered his ERA to 4.54 and WHIP to 1.32 with the strong showing, figures he complements with a 70:29 K:BB across 73.1 innings. He's projected for a road start in Houston next week, which will likely be his last of the regular season if Tampa Bay doesn't shuffle its rotation.

Kay (undisclosed) was activated from the COVID-19 injured list Wednesday and remains with Triple-A Buffalo, Mike Wilner of the Toronto Star reports.

Kay landed on the COVID IL a couple weeks ago and will now rejoin Buffalo's roster after clearing the health and safety protocols. The 26-year-old last saw game action at Triple-A on Aug. 4, and he surrendered six runs over 3.2 innings during that outing.

Borucki was ejected from Wednesday's loss to the Rays for allegedly intentionally hitting Kevin Kiermaier with a pitch.

Borucki delivered a clean seventh inning on eight pitches and returned for a second frame, but he was promptly ejected after plunking Kiermaier with a 93-mph offering to start the inning. The left-hander will face a suspension if MLB deems the act was intentional.

Valdez was designated for assignment by the Orioles on Wednesday.

Valdez's contract was selected Tuesday, but he took the loss against the Phillies when he gave up two runs (one earned) in two-thirds of an inning. He'll be cast off the 40-man roster once again as part of a move to make room for right-hander Konner Wade in the major-league bullpen.

Krehbiel was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday.

Krehbiel was claimed off waivers by the Orioles on Tuesday, but he didn't make his team debut in the team's loss to the Phillies. He'll head to the minors to make room in the bullpen for right-hander Konner Wade, who was recalled from Norfolk on Wednesday.

Heasley is slated to make his next turn through the Kansas City rotation Saturday in Detroit, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

The rookie right-hander will get a chance to redeem himself after he underwhelmed in his MLB debut last weekend against the Mariners. Heasley covered four innings in that start, giving up four runs on six hits and no walks while striking out two. He showcased some strikeout upside (27.7 K%) at Double-A Northwest Arkansas prior to his call-up, though the long ball was an issue (1.5 HR/9).

Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre placed Garcia (undisclosed) on its 7-day injured list Wednesday, Conor Foley of The Scranton Times-Tribune reports.

No details are available regarding the nature of Garcia's injury, but he'll most likely be sidelined for the rest of the Triple-A club's season, which ends Sept. 30. After a promising six-start sample with the Yankees in 2020, Garcia was expected to vie for a rotation spot with the big club this season, but he ended up losing out to Domingo German in a spring training competition for the fifth starter's role. The 22-year-old righty then failed to perform well enough to merit an extended look in the big leagues, as he compiled a 6.83 ERA and 1.89 WHIP across 89.2 innings with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
