Lopez (3-2) was charged with the loss Thursday against the A's after allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits and three walks while striking out two across five innings.

It wasn't his best outing, but Lopez held things in check enough to give the White Sox a chance. Unfortunately, he failed to receive run support from his teammates while also dealing with defensive woes. The right-hander may not receive another chance in the rotation next week with Lucas Giolito (hamstring) and Lance Lynn (knee) nearing their returns from the injured list. Across 16 appearances (six starts) this season, Lopez is sporting a 2.05 ERA and 0.84 WHIP.

Manaea (9-9) earned the win Thursday after holding the White Sox to one run on five hits and a walk while striking out nine across seven innings.

The southpaw displayed strong command en route to his ninth win, recording nine punchouts for the second straight game to earn his 14th quality start of the year. Manaea's only blemish of the day came from an RBI single by Jose Abreu in the third inning. The 29-year-old will look to continue his success during his next projected start Wednesday at Kansas City.

Holmes (6-3) was tagged with the loss against Toronto on Wednesday, allowing an unearned run on two hits while striking out two over one inning.

Both hits against the right-hander went for singles, but an error by Andrew Velazquez provided the extra base needed for Toronto to scratch out a run. Despite the loss Wednesday, Holmes has been very effective since joining the Yankees in late July, posting a 2.30 ERA, 0.70 WHIP and 19:1 K:BB across 15.2 innings.

Chapman retired two of the five batters he faced in his relief appearance in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to the Blue Jays, allowing a solo home run and issuing two walks.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone turned to Chapman in a non-save situation Wednesday after the closer was stuck with the loss his last time out Saturday versus Baltimore, but the lefty fireballer didn't inspire much confidence in what should have been a low-stress appearance. Not only did he serve up a solo shot to Vladimir Guerrero, but Chapman couldn't consistently find the zone, tossing only 10 of his 24 pitches for strikes while also uncorking a wild pitch. Chapman left the contest with two runners on base, but Wandy Peralta spared him of any further damage to his ERA by inducing an inning-ending groundout.

Staumont (3-3) allowed three runs (two earned) on two hits and a walk in one-third of an inning, taking the loss Wednesday versus Baltimore.

The 27-year-old was brought into the game with no outs and two runners in scoring position in the eighth inning. Staumont allowed both runners inherited from Joel Payamps to score, and the former put three of the four batters he faced aboard as well. Staumont ultimately took the loss when Jake Brentz couldn't escape a bases-loaded jam. The sloppy outing inflated Staumont's ERA to 3.44 with a 1.16 WHIP, 64:23 K:BB, five saves and 10 holds through 55 innings. Lately he's seen more save chances go to Scott Barlow, but Staumont remains part of Kansas City's plans in high-leverage spots.

Payamps allowed three runs on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts in one-plus innings in Wednesday's 9-8 loss to Baltimore.

The right-hander got through the seventh inning cleanly, but he then allowed three straight batters to reach in the eighth. All three came around to score after Josh Staumont failed to stop the bleeding. Payamps has posted a 3.18 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 31:13 K:BB across 39.2 innings between Kansas City and Toronto. He's seen mainly low-leverage work with the Royals.

Barreda (1-0) struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the win Wednesday over Kansas City.

The 32-year-old pitched the top of the eighth inning with Baltimore trailing 5-0, and he was able to maintain the five-run deficit. The offense rallied for nine runs in its half of the inning, and that made Barreda a winner in his major-league debut. The right-hander projects for a low-leverage role as long as he's with the big club.

Romano struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Wednesday to record his 16th save of the season in a 6-3 win over the Yankees.

The right-hander has blown only one save all year, and that came back in early April. Romano seems to have a firm grasp on the closer job for Toronto with a 2.50 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 72:20 K:BB through 54 innings on the season, and while Julian Merryweather was activated off the IL on Wednesday, he may not be much of a threat to Romano's ninth-inning role.

Mayers (4-5) took the loss against San Diego on Wednesday, pitching 1.2 innings and allowing two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out one.

The right-hander was selected to open the Angels' bullpen game, and he made it through the first inning without incident. However, the Padres drove Mayers from the contest in the second, converting a walk and a double into a run before pummeling a pair of subsequent relievers for seven additional runs. Mayers has pitched to a 4.34 ERA and 77:21 K:BB across 64.1 innings this season. He's struggled of late, posting a 7.36 ERA over his past six outings.

Barlow retired the only batter he faced to earn the save in Wednesday's 8-5 win over Arizona.

Demarcus Evans made things interesting in a non-save situation, which allowed Barlow to enter with a three-run lead to nab his fourth save of the year. The 25-year-old has emerged as one of Texas' top closing options with a 1.74 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 21:10 K:BB through 20.2 innings. He's logged three holds, a blown save and an 0-2 record in addition to his four saves in 22 appearances.
