Manager Charlie Montoyo said Monday that Giles (elbow) has resumed playing catch and isn't expected to spend longer than the 10-day minimum on the injured list, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.

Giles hasn't pitched for the Blue Jays since June 5, but because he wasn't placed on the IL until a week later, his stint is effective June 11. That means he won't be eligible for reinstatement until Friday, so if Montoyo's prediction holds true, Giles should be activated ahead of the Blue Jays' weekend series in Boston. Due to the brevity of his stay on the IL, Giles will likely be immediately reinstalled as Toronto's closer.

Palumbo will be recalled from Double-A Frisco to start Wednesday's game against the Indians, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Palumbo made his big-league debut earlier this season with Texas, surrendering four runs while fanning four over four innings June 8 against the Athletics. He'll get another shot to work deeper into the ballgame Wednesday, and he's expected to stick in the rotation for now, per Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Kittredge had his contract selected from Triple-A Durham on Tuesday, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

The right-hander is set to make his 2019 big-league debut following the demotion of Jake Faria. Kittridge has posted a 1.93 ERA and 0.81 WHIP with a 55:6 K:BB over 37.1 innings this season at Triple-A.

Manager AJ Hinch told MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM on Tuesday that McHugh (elbow) would make at least one more rehab appearance in the minors later this week.

McHugh completed his second rehab outing at Double-A Corpus Christi on Monday, working 1.1 innings and conceding one run on two hits and a walk while striking out two. The righty tossed 33 pitches in the game, and Hinch suggested McHugh would take on a similar workload again in his next appearance. Hinch's comments suggest that McHugh is still being viewed as a multi-inning relief option when he returns from the 10-day injured list rather than a candidate to re-enter the rotation.

Yarbrough will be deployed as a bulk reliever in Tuesday's game against the Yankees, Eduardo A. Encina of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Since rejoining the Rays in late May to fill Tyler Glasnow's (forearm) spot in the rotation, Yarbrough has made four of his five appearances as a traditional starter. After Yarbrough was roughed up in two of his past three outings, however, manager Kevin Cash will deploy the lefty behind an opener with the hope that the arrangement yields better results. Ryne Stanek will get the "start" and is expected to cover 1-to-2 innings before giving way to Yarbrough, who is the most likely Rays pitcher to factor into any decision.

Boston manager Alex Cora confirmed Johnson is the team's fifth starter, Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald reports.

As Johnson ramped up during a rehab stint, having him fill in for the injured Nathan Eovaldi (elbow) was widely presumed to be the Red Sox's plan,. Johnson was pulled after three innings and 70 pitches Sunday against the Orioles, and while Cora is sticking by him a starter, the manager expects improvement. "I think [Sunday] he was OK," Cora said. "Like I said, rehab starts, big-league starts are way different. He was OK. Hopefully for his next one he can do better." Meanwhile, Eovaldi has resumed throwing after a setback and is starting his rehab from scratch. Johnson could be the fill-in starter through the All-Star break.

Manger Kevin Cash said Monday that Alvarado (personal) will need a restart similar to an abbreviated spring training before returning to the 25-man roster, Eduardo A. Encina of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Alvarado returned from Venezuela over this past weekend after dealing with family-related issues, and it was announced Sunday he'd report to High-A Charlotte prior to jumping back into big-league action. Cash's comments Monday imply the left-handed reliever will log multiple minor-league outings in order to get back into a groove after last having pitched June 1. Diego Castillo and Emilio Pagan should continue handling closing duties until Alvarado is activated from the restricted list.

Sadzeck (elbow) is expected to resume throwing at some point this week, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

Sadzeck initially went on the injured list June 4 and began throwing soon thereafter. However, he experienced discomfort during that initial session, which led to an MRI that revealed no structural damage. The right-handed reliever owns a 2.66 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and a 27:15 K:BB across 23.2 innings this season.

Treinen struck out one batter in a perfect inning to earn the save in Monday's win over Baltimore.

Treinen has now locked down his last 10 save opportunities, bringing him to 16-of-18 on the year. His 3.31 ERA and 36:19 K:BB are a bit disappointing, but the 30-year-old has still been pretty effective closing out games.

Brasier struck out one in a scoreless inning to record his seventh save in a 2-0 win over the Twins on Monday.

Brasier was called upon with a two-run lead and delivered three straight outs to nail down the save. The 31-year old was activated from the bereavement list Monday and recorded his first save since April 21. Brasier has a 2-3 record with a 3.64 ERA in 32 appearances this season.
