  • Sean Manaea SP | NYM

Athletics' Sean Manaea: Ends season on high note

Manaea (12-10) earned the win over the Rangers on Thursday in his final start of the 2017 season. He was charged with one unearned run on three hits with six strikeouts and three walks over 6.2 innings.

The 25-year-old lefty struggled throughout most of the second half, prompting calls for an early shutdown, but Manaea heads into the offseason on a positive note following this gem. He showed no ill effects from his recent back issue, inducing 13 swinging strikes on 90 pitches. After the game, Manaea explained to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle that he lost 25 pounds earlier in the season after being described ADD medication, and that resulted in a dip in velocity. Manaea should come at a nice discount in fantasy drafts and auctions next spring.

  • Sean Manaea SP | NYM

Athletics' Sean Manaea: On mound Thursday

Manaea (back) is good to go for Thursday's start against the Rangers.

Manaea will make his final start of the 2017 season in Texas after missing his previous outing due to a minor back issue. The left-hander has accumulated a 4.56 ERA and 1.42 WHIP over 28 starts this season, and allowed two earned runs over five innings during his win against the Rangers in late August.

  • Jose Alvarado RP | PHI

Rays' Jose Alvarado: Extends scoreless streak Thursday

Alvarado fired a scoreless two-thirds of an inning in Wednesday's 6-1 loss to the Yankees, allowing a hit and a walk while recording a strikeout.

That's eight consecutive scoreless efforts for Alvarado since rejoining the club from Triple-A Durham on Sept. 5, as well as 13 consecutive overall at the big-league level dating back to Aug. 4. The 22-year-old southpaw has lowered his ERA from 5.59 to 3.77 over that stretch and is providing plenty of reason to believe he could serve as an effective left-handed relief option next season.

  • Drew VerHagen RP | STL

Tigers' Drew VerHagen: Takes loss Wednesday

VerHagen (0-3) was tagged with the loss and a blown save in Wednesday's game against the Royals. He gave up two earned runs on two hits and retired just a single batter.

VerHagen gave up a two-run home run to Paulo Orlando in the seventh inning that put Kansas City up 4-3. The 26-year-old now has an uninspiring 5.85 ERA and 1.52 WHIP, and he likely won't be much of a fantasy contributor in 2018.

  • Reynaldo Lopez RP | ATL

White Sox's Reynaldo Lopez: Takes no-decision in season finale

Lopez allowed four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out seven over six innings in Wednesday's 6-4 extra-inning win over the Angels.

Lopez finishes the season with a no-decision and heads into the offseason with a 3-3 record and 4.72 ERA over eight starts. Despite what appear to be pedestrian marks, the young right-hander threw at least six innings in seven of his eight starts and showed improved command at the major-league level. He's done enough to warrant a spot in the team's rotation in 2018.

  • Matt Andriese RP | MIA

Rays' Matt Andriese: Runs out of gas Wednesday

Andriese (5-5) landed in the loss column after allowing three runs on five hits and two walks in five innings Wednesday against the Yankees. He struck out three batters.

Andriese looked solid through four innings before he started to run out of gas. He allowed a two-run double in the fifth to Aaron Judge before a leadoff homer in the sixth inning to Starlin Castro ended his outing. He's now allowed six homers and 19 runs in five starts (22 innings) since returning from a long-term hip injury, though he owns a respectable 21:6 K:BB over that span. The 28-year-old will finish the season with a 4.50 ERA and 76:28 K:BB through 86 innings, and a healthy Andriese should factor into the Rays' 2018 rotation plans.

  • Blake Treinen RP | LAD

Athletics' Blake Treinen: Picks up win Wednesday

Treinen (3-6) picked up the win after tossing a scoreless ninth inning Wednesday against the Mariners.

Treinen allowed a one-out double but was able to get out of the inning unscathed. He's been solid when called upon for the A's, compiling a 2.25 ERA and 40 strikeouts while converting 11 of 14 save chances in 35 innings.

  • Athletics' Kendall Graveman: Fires second straight quality start

Graveman allowed three runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out four batters in six innings Wednesday against the Mariners. He didn't factor into the decision.

After an up-and-down year, Graveman was able to end his season on a positive note, converting his third quality start in four tries while finishing up September with a respectable 3.12 ERA and 1.27 WHIP across 26 innings. Graveman will finish the season 6-4 with a 4.19 ERA and 70:32 K:BB in 105.1 innings (19 starts), and he should be a favorite to return to the Athletics' starting rotation in 2018.

  • Rangers' Nick Martinez: Surrenders six runs in loss

Martinez (3-8) allowed six runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out two batters through five innings to take the loss against Houston on Wednesday.

Unless Martinez makes a surprise appearance out of the bullpen, he will finish the campaign with a 5.66 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 5.4 K/9 through 111.1 innings. The 27-year-old righty has bounced between the Texas rotation and bullpen over the past few seasons without consistent success, so there's unlikely to be a significant change at this stage of his career. Outside of AL-only setups, Martinez should probably be off the fantasy radar in the majority of settings entering 2017.

  • Rays' Andrew Kittredge: Scoreless inning Tuesday

Kittredge fired a scoreless fourth inning in Tuesday's 6-1 loss to the Yankees, allowing a hit and a walk while also recording a strikeout.

Kittredge has hit his stride in what is his third big-league stint of 2017, posting scoreless efforts in eight of his nine outings. The 27-year-old right-hander coaxed his ERA under 2.00 with Tuesday's effort and has allowed just an earned run on five hits and four walks over nine September innings.
