  • Matt Andriese RP | MIA

Rays' Matt Andriese: Fails to last five innings Sunday

Andriese (6-3) allowed three runs on six hits and a walk over 4.2 innings while striking out five in Sunday's loss to the Twins.

He was stretched out a little more than he was in his last start, throwing 76 pitches Sunday, but Andriese is still being treated with kid gloves by the Rays' coaching staff after re-joining the rotation from the bullpen as he got yanked in the fifth inning without being in any particular kind of jam. Look for him to handle a more normal workload and possibly even pitch long enough to qualify for a win in his next start Saturday on the road against the Yankees.

  • Yankees' Dellin Betances: Strikes out two Sunday to notch second save

Betances picked up his second save of the season in Sunday's win over the Indians, allowing a hit and a walk in 1.1 scoreless innings while striking out two.

His wild pitch in the eighth inning allowed an unearned run to score (charged to Tyler Clippard) and made the game 3-2, but Betances got a timely double play in the ninth before striking out Jason Kipnis to lock up the save. He's now recorded at least one strikeout in 19 straight appearances, pushing his K/9 rate to an incredible 15.9 on the year.

  • Sean Manaea SP | NYM

Athletics' Sean Manaea: Suffers loss despite firing quality start Sunday

Manaea (3-7) allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four over six innings to take the loss Sunday against the Cubs.

Despite pitching well, Manaea didn't receive any run support, leading to his seventh loss of the campaign. He's started to turn things around by firing quality starts in three of his last four outings to lower his ERA to 4.58. The rookie is gaining valuable experience, and with a strong finish to the season, he could be a player to watch in 2017. He'll make his next start Friday against the Mariners.

  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mariners' Edwin Diaz: No K's, but gets fourth save

Diaz saved his fourth game in as many chances Saturday, though he did not record a strikeout for the first time as a closer.

It was just the fourth time in 28 appearances this season that Diaz went without a strikeout and second time when he pitched at least an inning. After a popout, he induced a double-play grounder to end it. His K/9 "fell" to 17.38 and his K% to 45.2.

  • Alex Colome RP | CHW

Rays' Alex Colome: Puts out fire for save in Saturday win

Colome talled his 27th save by recording two outs, including one strikeout, in the ninth inning of Saturday's 7-3 victory over the Twins.

The dominant closer received a rather unexpected save chance and helped tough-luck Chris Archer earn a rare win. Colome set down Danny Santana and Brian Dozier with two men on to close matters out, after Dylan Floro had given up a two-RBI single to Jorge Polanco and a subsequent hit to Kurt Suzuki. The 27-year-old has rattled off six straight scoreless outings after blowing his first save opportunity on July 23 against the A's.

  • Daniel Norris RP | CLE

Tigers' Daniel Norris: Will take Zimmerman's spot in rotation

Norris will be called up from Triple-A Toledo to start Tuesday, replacing the injured Jordan Zimmerman (back), Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Zimmerman suffered a lat injury in his first start off the disabled list Thursday and was placed on the disabled list following Saturday night's game against the Mets. Norris will not be added to the roster until Monday.

  • Pat Venditte RP | LAD

Mariners' Pat Venditte: Traded to Mariners

Venditte was traded to the Mariners on Saturday for a player to be named later, MLB.com's Greg Johns reports.

The switch-pitching Venditte will head to a new team after beginning the season with the Blue Jays. He appeared in eight major league games earlier this season, but will head to Triple-A Tacoma for now.

  • Rays' Danny Farquhar: Recalled from Durham

Farquhar was brought up from Triple-A Durham on Friday.

Farquhar has spent time with the Rays already this season, appearing in 11 games while posting a 6.75 ERA and 1.59 WHIP over 10.2 innings. He was called back up when Enny Romero went to the DL with a back injury.

  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mariners' Edwin Diaz: Records third save in as many chances

Diaz collected his third save of the season in Friday night's 6-4 win over the Angels.

The hard-throwing righty flew through the heart of the order -- striking out Mike Trout, Albert Pujols and Andrelton Simmons -- on 14 pitches. With 56 strikeouts in 28 innings, Diaz has a phenomenal 18.0 K/9 and he has converted all three save opportunities since taking over ninth-inning duties.

  • Drew Pomeranz RP | CHC

Red Sox's Drew Pomeranz: Padres withheld medical information?

The Red Sox have become aware of medical information about Pomeranz that they believe the Padres did not properly disclose during trade talks, Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports.

In July, the Red Sox traded prized pitching prospect Anderson Espinoza for Pomeranz, who has not pitched particularly well in four starts for Boston. The left-hander has a 6.20 ERA over 20.1 innings. Boston manager John Farrell told Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe that he personally was not aware of a health issue, while president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski had no comment. The Padres were also involved in a trade with the Marlins that was amended when right-hander Colin Rea told Miami that he had been treated for an elbow injury while with San Diego. Rea was returned to the Padres, who announced Friday he will have season-ending Tommy John surgery.
