Roansy Contreras RP | COL
Rangers' Roansy Contreras: Claimed by Texas
The Rangers claimed Contreras off waivers from the Angels on Thursday, Kiley McDaniel of ESPN.com reports.
Contreras looked in 2022 like he might be part of the Pirates' rotation for a while, but he's collected a 5.47 ERA and 111:63 K:BB over 136.2 innings since the start of the 2023 season and is now in his third organization since May. The righty mostly pitched in relief in 2024, but the Rangers could stretch him back out during spring training.

Luke Weaver SP | NYM
Yankees' Luke Weaver: Gets tough blown save
Weaver was saddled with a blown save Wednesday against the Dodgers in Game 5 of the World Series, letting two inherited runners score while permitting one hit and one walk over 1.1 frames.
He was put into an impossible situation, taking over for Tommy Kahnle in the top of the eighth inning after Kahnle had loaded the bases with no one out. Weaver didn't permit a hit or a walk in the frame, but a pair of sac flies turned a one-run Yankees lead to a one-run deficit. He returned for the ninth inning and was pulled with one out and two runners on before Mark Leiter came on to escape the jam. The Yankees have a $2.5 million club option on Weaver for 2025, which they will undoubtedly pick up. He could open next season as the club's closer after finishing this year in the role.

Jose Marte RP | LAA
Angels' Jose Marte: Returns from injured list
Marte (shoulder) was activated from the injured list and outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday.
Marte underwent surgery on his right shoulder in mid-September and is presumably still recovering. He could be ready to throw by spring training, though no official timeline has been announced by the team.

Andrew Wantz RP | TB
Angels' Andrew Wantz: Activated from injured list
Wantz (elbow) was activated from the injured list and outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday.
Wantz underwent a procedure on his elbow in mid-July, but it was not Tommy John surgery. Nevertheless, he was unable to return to the mound in 2024 after experiencing a setback. He'll presumably be ready for the start of spring training, which would roughly be in line with his initial recovery timetable.

Mark Leiter RP | ATH
Yankees' Mark Leiter: Added to ALCS roster
Leiter has been added to the Yankees' ALCS roster, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
Leiter is the injury replacement for Ian Hamilton (calf). The 33-year-old Leiter held a 4.98 ERA over 21.2 innings after being acquired by the Yankees at the trade deadline, while he struck out 33 and tallied 86 strikeouts across 58 frames in 2024 between his time with the Cubs and Yankees.
