  • Danny Coulombe RP | BOS

Orioles' Danny Coulombe: Grabs another win

Coulombe (5-1) struck out one over 1.1 perfect innings to earn the win Sunday over the Diamondbacks.

Jack Flaherty started to fade in the fifth inning, but Coulombe was able to step in and steady things for the Orioles. They rallied ahead in the sixth, allowing Coulombe to pick up his second win in as many outings. The southpaw has an 8.1-inning scoreless streak going, during which he's posted an 11:2 K:BB with a save and four holds. He's at a 2.51 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 52:10 K:BB over 43 innings this season, though his usage Sunday suggests he's not strictly confined to late-inning work.

  • Ian Hamilton RP | ATL

Yankees' Ian Hamilton: Out with groin strain

Hamilton was placed on the 15-day injured list Sunday with a right groin strain.

Hamilton presumably suffered the injury during his most recent appearance Thursday in Detroit, when he picked up a three-inning save with a scoreless appearance. The right-hander might not be able to return this season depending on the severity of the strain.

  • Felix Bautista RP | BAL

Orioles' Felix Bautista: Gets MRI, could need more tests

Manager Brandon Hyde said Sunday that Bautista has received an MRI on his injured right elbow, but the Orioles will wait for the inflammation in the pitcher's arm to subside before a decision is made on his next steps, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

The standout closer was placed on the 15-day IL on Aug. 26 with what the Orioles described as a UCL injury, but the severity of the issue still hasn't been disclosed. Once some of the elbow inflammation clears up, Bautista could get more tests that may shed more light on the extent of his injury. Regardless, Bautista appears safe to rule out for returning from the IL when first eligible next weekend, and even if he's able to steer clear of elbow surgery, he won't necessarily be a lock to pitch again in 2023.

  • Greg Weissert RP | BOS

Yankees' Greg Weissert: Back in big leagues

Weissert was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday.

The 28-year-old was sent to Triple-A on Aug. 20 but will rejoin the major-league club with Ian Hamilton (groin) placed on the injured list. Weissert has made seven appearances for the Yankees this season and has allowed four earned runs with a 9:5 K:BB over 8.2 innings.

  • Bennett Sousa RP | HOU

Astros' Bennett Sousa: Claimed by Houston

Sousa was claimed off waivers by the Astros on Sunday and was subsequently optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land.

The left-hander was designated for assignment by the Tigers on Friday and will now join his fifth organization of the season. Sousa has appeared in just two big-league games this year and has a 4.91 ERA across 18.1 frames in the minors.

  • Jimmy Lambert RP | CHW

White Sox's Jimmy Lambert: Departs with ankle issue

Lambert was removed from Sunday's game against the Tigers with right ankle soreness.

Lambert threw only nine pitches and failed to record an out before exiting with the injury. The right-hander should be considered day-to-day as he continues to be evaluated.

  • Blair Calvo RP | DET

Tigers' Blair Calvo: Moved off 40-man roster

The Tigers outrighted Calvo to Triple-A Toledo on Sunday.

After being acquired from the Rockies on June 18, Calvo never made any appearances at the big-league level for Detroit before being moved off the 40-man roster. Calvo will continue to pitch in relief at Toledo, with whom he's compiled an 8.88 ERA, 2.23 WHIP and 30:26 K:BB over 25.1 innings.

  • Red Sox's Brennan Bernardino: Officially activated Sunday

The Red Sox reinstated Bernardino (illness) from the COVID-19-related injured list Sunday, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

Though Bernardino rejoined the Red Sox in Kansas City on Saturday after spending the minimum seven days on the IL, Boston waited a day before adding him back to the 28-man active roster. The Red Sox placed reliever Garrett Whitlock (personal) on the bereavement list Sunday to open up a spot on the roster for Bernardino.

  • Sam Hentges RP | SF

Guardians' Sam Hentges: Collects extra-innings win

Hentges (3-2) allowed an unearned run on one hit over one inning to earn the extra-innings win over the Rays on Saturday.

Hentges allowed a run to score on a sacrifice fly, but the Guardians rallied back for two runs in the bottom of the 11th inning to earn him the win. The unearned run Saturday is the only run he's given up over his last 15 innings, a span in which he has a 19:4 K:BB and two holds. For the season, Hentges has a 4.32 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 44:16 K:BB through 41.2 innings with 10 holds and two blown saves. While he's been sharp lately, the Guardians' waiver claims from the Angels make the back end of Cleveland's bullpen quite crowded, so Hentges may be seen more often in middle-relief assignments.

  • Austin Voth RP | TOR

Orioles' Austin Voth: DFA'd by O's

The Orioles designated Voth for assignment Sunday.

Voth will be pushed off the 40-man roster to clear a spot for Jorge Lopez, who was claimed off waivers from Miami on Saturday. The 31-year-old righty holds a 5.19 ERA and 1.56 WHIP through 34.2 innings, and he will likely remain in the minors for the rest of the year if he goes unclaimed on the waiver wire.
