  • Padres' Adrian Morejon: Recalled from El Paso

San Diego recalled Morejon from Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday.

Morejon is up in the majors for the first time in 2023 and will presumably fill a middle-relief role for the Padres. He was sidelined until late May due to left elbow inflammation but had since registered a 1.29 ERA with nine strikeouts across seven innings at the Triple-A level.

  • Drew Carlton RP | SD

Padres' Drew Carlton: Optioned to Triple-A

San Diego optioned Carlton to Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday.

Carlton had allowed seven earned runs on seven hits and six walks over his last 8.2 innings (five appearances) out of the Padres' bullpen. Adrian Morejon has been called up to take his place.

  • Shelby Miller RP | CHC

Dodgers' Shelby Miller: Placed on 15-day IL

The Dodgers placed Miller on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with neck pain.

Miller hadn't made an appearance since last Thursday and will now get a couple weeks off for rest and treatment. The 32-year-old right-hander has proven to be a nice find for Los Angeles this season, boasting a 2.40 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 31 strikeouts through 30 innings of relief. He'll be eligible to return in early July.

  • Padres' Nick Martinez: Takes loss Tuesday

Martinez (3-3) was tagged with the loss and a blown save Tuesday against the Giants, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk over 1.2 innings.

Martinez entered with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning with two runners on base. He retired David Villar to escape the threat, but Martinez game up a game-tying solo shot to Joc Pederson leading off the eighth and allowed two of the three batters he faced in the ninth to reach base. One of those scored the winning run, tagging Martinez with the loss. Tuesday's performance was the second straight for Martinez in which he's been charged with two runs, but his ERA still sits at a respectable 3.30 on the campaign. He's added a 1.27 WHIP, 46:20 K:BB, nine holds and one save over 28 outings.

  • Codi Heuer RP | CLE

Cubs' Codi Heuer: Suffers arm injury on rehab

Heuer (elbow) was removed from his latest rehab appearance Tuesday with Triple-A Iowa due to an apparent arm injury, Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Heuer is working his way back from March 2022 Tommy John surgery, but it's unclear if he suffered an aggravation with his elbow or if he's tending to a new injury. Before his early departure Tuesday, Heuer had largely struggled over a rehab assignment that began at Iowa in early May, posting a 7.82 ERA, 2.05 WHIP and 15:11 K:BB in 12.2 innings over 15 appearances.

  • Carl Edwards RP | NYM

Nationals' Carl Edwards: Lands on IL

The Nationals placed Edwards on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right shoulder inflammation, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Washington opted to shut Edwards down after he experienced discomfort in his shoulder coming out of his most recent relief appearance in Monday's 8-6 loss to St. Louis. Though his initial diagnosis of inflammation rather than a shoulder sprain or strain bodes well for a speedy recovery, the Nationals aren't putting an official timeline on Edwards' return from the IL. The 31-year-old has been a key setup option this season, nabbing 13 holds, two saves and one win while accruing a 3.69 ERA over 32 appearances.

  • Joe La Sorsa RP | PIT

Nationals' Joe La Sorsa: Moves up to big leagues

The Nationals recalled La Sorsa from Triple-A Rochester ahead of Wednesday's game against the Cardinals, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

He'll be joining the big-league bullpen as a replacement for Carl Edwards, who was placed on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation. La Sorsa made a pair of relief appearances in the majors with the Rays earlier this season, but he'll be joining the Nationals for the first time since Washington claimed him off waivers June 8.

  • Carl Edwards RP | NYM

Nationals' Carl Edwards: Having shoulder checked out

Edwards is having his right shoulder checked before Wednesday's game versus the Cardinals, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

The Nationals have Joe La Sorsa with the team in Washington in case they need to place Edwards on the injured list. The right-hander has appeared in 32 games with the Nationals with a 3.69 ERA and 1.52 WHIP over 31.2 innings despite a lackluster 24:17 K:BB.

  • Ryan Walker RP | SF

Giants' Ryan Walker: Opening again Wednesday

Walker will serve as the Giants' opening pitcher in Wednesday's game against the Padres, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

With John Brebbia (lat) recently landing on the injured list, Walker has seemingly stepped in for him as manager Gabe Kapler's preferred opening pitcher. After starting in Monday's 7-4 win and covering 1.2 innings, Walker will handle opener duties for the second time in the series with the Padres. Based on the recent workloads of the Giants' other bullpen arms, Sean Manaea or Sean Hjelle look like the top candidates to serve as a bulk relievers behind Walker.

  • Tyler Rogers RP | TOR

Giants' Tyler Rogers: Snares win Tuesday

Rogers (2-4) allowed a hit and struck out one in a scoreless inning to earn the win over the Padres on Tuesday.

An error put runners on first and second with two outs, but Rogers escaped trouble. Joc Pederson then walked it off for the Giants with a bases-loaded walk. Rogers has both of his wins and six holds during a 10.1-inning scoreless streak over his last 11 appearances. The setup man is at a 1.56 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 26:11 K:BB, two saves and 14 holds through 34.2 innings on the season.
