John Brebbia RP | COL
Giants' John Brebbia: Records four outs as opener
Brebbia put together a scoreless outing as the opener against the Cardinals on Tuesday, allowing one hit while striking out two over 1.1 innings.
Brebbia sent down the first four batters he faced before allowing a single to Willson Contreras which led to him getting pulled after 24 pitches. The 32-year-old has put together three consecutive scoreless outings and has struck out six over his last 3.2 innings. For the year, Brebbia owns a 4.82 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 14:2 K:BB over 9.1 innings.

Ryan Helsley RP | BAL
Cardinals' Ryan Helsley: Charged with loss
Helsley (0-2) was charged with a loss and a blown save Tuesday against the Giants after giving up three runs (zero earned) on two hits over two-thirds of an inning. He struck out one.
Helsley was called upon in the ninth to protect a two-run lead and found himself in some quick trouble. Joc Pederson reached to kick things off on an error by Tommy Edman and Mike Yastrzemski followed with an RBI double. The right-hander retired the next two batters before Blake Sabol crushed a slider to center field to walk it off for the Giants. The 2022 All-Star is now 3-for-6 in save chances over the first month of the season and owns a 1.93 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 13:4 K:BB over 9.1 innings. Manager Oliver Marmol has not commented on the current closer situation for the Cardinals, but it could be assumed that Helsley's grip on the role is loosening. Giovanny Gallegos has yet to give up a run over 8.1 innings so far this season.

Bryan Hoeing RP | SD
Marlins' Bryan Hoeing: Ousted after 3.2 innings
Hoeing (0-1) took the loss Tuesday, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks over 3.2 innings against Atlanta. He struck out two.
Hoeing took Trevor Rogers' (biceps) spot in the rotation and made his first appearance of the 2023 season. His debut left plenty of room for improvement, although it did come against a tough Atlanta lineup. Through 16.1 career innings in the big leagues, Hoeing has recorded an 11.57 ERA and an 8:7 K:BB, keeping him off the fantasy radar for the time being.

Alexis Diaz RP | TEX
Reds' Alexis Diaz: Logs third save
Diaz picked up the save Tuesday against the Rangers. He allowed a hit while striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning.
Diaz worked around a one-out Travis Jankowski single to close out a 7-6 victory. The hard-throwing right-hander is now 3-for-3 in save opportunities this year with a 3.38 ERA, 0.63 WHIP and an outstanding 16:2 K:BB through eight innings this year. While Diaz has the makings of a high-end closer, chances for saves will likely be limited in Cincinnati.

Drew Pomeranz RP | LAA
Padres' Drew Pomeranz: Moves rehab to Triple-A
Pomeranz (neck/elbow) shifted his rehab assignment to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Pomeranz logged two perfect innings with Single-A Lake Elsinore and should finally be cleared to return to the Padres' bullpen after maybe one or two appearances with El Paso. The lefty reliever hasn't pitched in a major-league game since 2021 due to flexor tendon surgery and subsequent complications.

Jimmy Nelson RP | LAD
Dodgers' Jimmy Nelson: Set for rehab assignment
Nelson (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Nelson finally appears to be nearing the end of his recovery from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent back in August 2021. He reportedly looked sharp in Dodgers camp this spring and could be an option for their major-league bullpen in the early part of May if all goes well at the Triple-A level.

Sean Nolin RP | MIA
Marlins' Sean Nolin: Designated for assignment
Nolin was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Tuesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
This move clears out a 40-man roster spot for Bryan Hoeing, who is joining the Marlins' rotation Tuesday night in Atlanta. Nolin surrendered six earned runs over three innings of relief Monday while making his first appearance in the majors since 2021.

Bryan Hoeing RP | SD
Marlins' Bryan Hoeing: Selected ahead of start
Hoeing had his contract selected by the Marlins on Tuesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Hoeing will start in place of the injured Trevor Rogers (biceps) Tuesday night against Atlanta. The 26-year-old right-hander got rocked for 17 earned runs over his first 12.2 major-league innings last season, but he was off to an encouraging start this year at Triple-A Jacksonville. Atlanta's lineup will be a tough test.

Gus Varland RP | WAS
Brewers' Gus Varland: Set for rehab appearances
Varland (hand) is set to make rehab appearances Thursday and Saturday with High-A Wisconsin, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
If both those outings go smoothly, Varland will then travel to Colorado with the Brewers next week and should be activated from the 15-day injured list at some point during their three-game series at Coors Field that begins May 2. He's been sidelined since April 15 due to a right hand contusion.

Raisel Iglesias RP | ATL
Braves' Raisel Iglesias: Throwing again Thursday
Iglesias (shoulder) will throw either live batting practice or in a minor-league rehab appearance Thursday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
Iglesias was able to face live hitters for the first time Monday and is now scheduled for at least one more round of work. It's unclear how many rehab appearances Iglesias will make should he go on an assignment, but he figures to be very close to the end of his recovery process and could even return as soon as this weekend.
