Helsley walked one in a scoreless inning to earn his 10th save of the year in Friday's 4-3 win over the Yankees.

Helsley was able to protect a one-run lead after Paul DeJong put the Cardinals ahead for the first time in the eighth inning. This was Helsley's ninth consecutive scoreless outing, spanning 9.1 innings, and he's picked up four saves, a win and a hold in that stretch. For the season, he owns a 0.61 ERA, 0.63 WHIP and 66:13 K:BB through 44.1 innings.

Hudson allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two in four innings in a no-decision versus the Yankees on Friday.

Manager Oli Marmol wasn't pleased with Hudson's tempo, and Katie Woo of The Athletic reports the right-hander's spot in the rotation could be at risk. Hudson threw 47 of 78 pitches for strikes, while Andre Pallante -- his potential replacement in the rotation -- also covered four innings on 65 pitches (37 strikes) to earn the win Friday. Hudson owns a 4.20 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 56:46 K:BB through 105 innings across 20 starts this year, but he's been worse with 15 runs allowed in 25 innings since the start of July. It's unclear whether the right-hander would move to the bullpen or get sent down to Triple-A Memphis if he loses his starting role. Either Hudson or Pallante figures to handle a difficult road start in Colorado next week.

Jansen allowed one run and struck out one batter in one inning during Friday's 9-6 win over the Mets.

Jansen made his first appearance of the month and coughed up a solo shot to Jeff McNeil. The veteran closer hasn't earned a save since July 29 and he saw his ERA climb to 3.57 through 40 appearances. As expected, Jansen is still the team's top closing option, with the newly acquired Raisel Iglesias working the eighth inning Friday.

Adams had surgery Friday to repair his right flexor tendon, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

It's another season-ending procedure for Adams, and he will likely miss time next year as well. Drew Pomeranz had this same procedure last August and is still rehabbing. Adams only pitched 2.1 innings in the majors this season, the second time in the last three years he's thrown fewer than five frames across all levels.

Mantiply will be part of a ninth-inning committee going forward in Arizona, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

The 31-year-old southpaw has a 4.26 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 12 strikeouts, zero wins and zero saves over his last 12.2 innings. However, Ian Kennedy seems like the more likely saves leader for the Diamondbacks after Mark Melancon was removed from the role.

Treinen (shoulder) will face hitters Saturday at Dodger Stadium, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Treinen topped out at 97 mph in a simulated game Wednesday but is not quite ready to head out on a rehab assignment. Brusdar Graterol (shoulder) is also set to face hitters Saturday.

Graterol (shoulder) will face hitters Saturday at Dodger Stadium, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

He reached 100 mph with his fastball during Wednesday's bullpen session and is ready to advance to live batting practice. Graterol may need a brief rehab assignment before rejoining the big-league bullpen. Blake Treinen (shoulder) is also set to face hitters Saturday.

The Diamondbacks will go with a closer-by-committee approach going forward, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports. Melancon is 3-10 with a 4.66 ERA and 1.58 WHIP this season.

In a perfect world for Arizona, Melancon would have been good as the closer through four months and they could have gotten something for him at the trade deadline, but that ship has sailed. He will probably work in lower-leverage situations in the short term, with Ian Kennedy the leading candidate to get the next save chance.

VerHagen (hip) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday.

It was announced Thursday that VerHagen will require season-ending surgery on his hip, so the move to the 60-day IL was no surprise. The 31-year-old inked a two-year, $5.5 million deal with the Cardinals after spending the previous two seasons in Japan, and he struggled in his return to the majors with a 6.65 ERA, 1.89 WHIP and 18:14 K:BB across 21.2 innings.

Naile was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Friday.

Naile was called up as the 27th man for Thursday's doubleheader, so it's no surprise he's headed back to the minors. The 29-year-old didn't allow a baserunner over two-thirds of an inning Thursday and has given up only two hits with a 4:0 K:BB across six major-league frames overall this year.
