  • Diamondbacks' Shelby Miller: Mixed results Tuesday

Miller (forearm) threw 16 pitches to live hitters Tuesday, but the session was cut short when his lower back tightened up, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Miller has been working his way back from a right forearm strain, throwing a bullpen session Saturday before facing live hitters Tuesday. The right-hander's arm felt good, but with the back issue popping up, the team opted to play it safe with Miller. The team will reportedly see how he's feeling Wednesday and go from there with his recovery plan.

  • Alan Rangel RP | PHI

Phillies' Alan Rangel: Back in big leagues

The Phillies recalled Rangel from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday, Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Since his demotion to Triple-A in late June, Rangel has posted a 3.86 ERA and 1.35 WHIP alongside a 17:8 K:BB through 16.1 innings. He'll now rejoin the Phillies' pitching staff as a replacement for the injured Joe Ross (back) and presumably take on a long-relief role.

  • Joe Ross RP | ARI

Phillies' Joe Ross: Lands on injured list

The Phillies placed Ross on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with back spasms, Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Ross has appeared in four games this month, giving up four earned runs over 6.1 innings while striking out five batters and walking two. He'll now remain sidelined until at least Aug. 6, and the Phillies will recall Alan Rangel from Triple-A to fill the open spot in their bullpen.

  • Rob Zastryzny RP | MIL

Brewers' Rob Zastryzny: Heads to Nashville for rehab stint

The Brewers sent Zastryzny (ribs) to Triple-A Nashville to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday, Jack Stern of BrewerFanatic.com reports.

Zastryzny has been on IL for the entirety of the month due to a ribs stress reaction. With his rehab assignment imminent, he may have a chance to be activated before the end of July.

  • Connor Thomas RP | MIL

Brewers' Connor Thomas: Undergoes surgery on UCL

Thomas had surgery Wednesday to remove bone spurs and repair his UCL with an internal-brace procedure, Jack Stern of BrewerFanatic.com reports.

Thomas is likely looking at a return timeline of the first half of the 2026 season in a best-case scenario. The Rule 5 draft pick made just two appearances -- the first of his MLB career -- before being shut down, allowing 12 earned runs on 12 hits over 5.1 innings.

  • Bryan Hoeing RP | SD

Padres' Bryan Hoeing: Optioned to Triple-A

The Padres optioned Hoeing to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday.

Hoeing has yielded three runs with a 5:3 K:BB over eight frames since returning from a shoulder injury. He was a key reliever for the Padres last season and should be back up with the big club before long.

  • Alek Jacob RP | SD

Padres' Alek Jacob: Returns to Triple-A

The Padres optioned Jacob to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday.

The right-hander was called up by San Diego on July 12 and appeared in just one game during his time with the big club, as he covered two scoreless frames Sunday in Washington. It's otherwise been a struggle for Jacob in the majors this season with a 6.39 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 19:10 K:BB over 25.1 innings.

  • Mason Thompson RP | TEX

Nationals' Mason Thompson: Moves down to Triple-A

The Nationals optioned Thompson to Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday.

In his first six relief appearances since completing his recovery from Tommy John surgery and returning from the 60-day injured list, Thompson has been tagged for six runs with a 3:6 K:BB over four innings. He will try to get back on track at Rochester.

  • Nationals' Konnor Pilkington: Contract selected

The Nationals selected Pilkington's contract from Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday.

The lefty will provide length in the bullpen behind Tuesday's starter, Brad Lord, who is making his first start since early May after 26 consecutive relief appearances. Pilkington has posted a 2.59 ERA and 50:27 K:BB over 41.2 frames this season with Rochester.

  • Mets' Brandon Waddell: Shelved with hip issue

The Mets reversed Waddell's optional assignment to Triple-A Syracuse and placed him on the 15-day injured list Tuesday due to a right hip impingement.

Waddell had been sent down to Syracuse over the weekend, but he didn't appear in any games for the affiliate and is thus eligible to be placed on the big club's injured list. The lefty will be eligible for activation Aug. 3, but it's not clear whether he will be ready to return on that date.
