  • David Bednar RP | NYY

Pirates' David Bednar: Picks up 37th save

Bednar picked up the save in Friday's 7-5 victory over the Reds. He allowed zero hits and two walks while striking out one over a scoreless inning.

The 28-year-old right-hander is now up to 37 saves on the year, which is tied for the NL lead and trails only Emmanuel Clase (42) on the overall MLB leaderboard. Bednar has delivered a terrific 2.08 ERA with 75 strikeouts across 65 innings this season for the Pirates.

  • Joe La Sorsa RP | PIT

Nationals' Joe La Sorsa: Recalled from Rochester

The Nationals recalled La Sorsa from Triple-A Rochester on Friday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

The 25-year-old has posted a 5.02 ERA and 24:8 K:BB in his first 28.2 major-league innings this season between Tampa Bay and Washington. La Sorsa will give the Nats another left-handed relief option as they play out the string.

  • Mets' Christian Scott: Completes breakout season

    Scott posted a 2.47 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and a 29.4 K-BB% in 62 innings across 12 starts for Double-A Binghamton.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound righty put up outstanding numbers while building up to a career-high 87.2 innings, primarily at High-A and Double-A. Scott missed almost four weeks in the second half with an undisclosed injury, but he was able to return Sept. 6 and struck out eight with zero walks in 4.2 innings across two September appearances. He is a little older than the typical Double-A pitching prospect, turning 25 in the first half of next season, but Scott has a legitimate mid-90s fastball and a plus slider. His changeup is a work in progress, but his excellent control could allow his whole arsenal to play up.

  • Andre Jackson RP | PIT

Pirates' Andre Jackson: Getting start Friday

Jackson will get the start for the Pirates in Friday's game at Cincinnati.

Jackson has been operating in a swingman role for Pittsburgh while posting a 4.82 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 33:16 K:BB across 37.1 innings. He threw 66 pitches over 4.1 innings of long relief in his last appearance Sunday versus the Yankees.

  • Dauri Moreta RP | PIT

Pirates' Dauri Moreta: Recalled from Indianapolis

The Pirates recalled Moreta from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday.

The 27-year-old has registered a decent 4.24 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 66:24 K:BB in 51 innings this season out of the Pittsburgh bullpen. Moreta will fill a middle relief role down the stretch.

  • Pirates' Colin Holderman: Placed on 15-day IL

The Pirates placed Holderman on the 15-day injured list Friday with right thumb discomfort.

It doesn't sound like anything too serious, but Holderman will not pitch again in 2023. Dauri Moreta is joining Pittsburgh's bullpen in a corresponding roster move.

  • Jeff Brigham RP | CHC

Mets' Jeff Brigham: Optioned to Triple-A

The Mets optioned Brigham to Triple-A Syracuse on Friday.

Brigham had allowed at least one earned run in each of his last four appearances. Peyton Battenfield is joining the Mets' bullpen in a corresponding roster move.

  • Miguel Castro RP | CHW

Diamondbacks' Miguel Castro: Placed on paternity leave

The Diamondbacks placed Castro on the paternity list Friday.

Castro appears likely to miss the Diamondbacks' entire three-game weekend series at Yankee Stadium as he welcomes a new addition to his growing family. Slade Cecconi has been recalled from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding roster move.

  • Tim Hill RP | NYY

Padres' Tim Hill: Moved to 60-day IL

Hill (finger) was transferred Friday from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.

Hill underwent season-ending surgery Wednesday to repair ligaments and clean up scar tissue in his left ring finger. This is a procedural move to clear out a 40-man roster spot for Jose Espada, who is joining the Padres' bullpen Friday.

  • Nick Hernandez RP | ATH

Padres' Nick Hernandez: Optioned to El Paso

The Padres optioned Hernandez to Triple-A El Paso on Friday.

Hernandez allowed four earned runs over three innings of relief during his 11-day stay in the majors. Jose Espada will fill his spot in the San Diego bullpen ahead of Friday's series opener against the Cardinals.
