  • Ryan Helsley RP | BAL

Cardinals' Ryan Helsley: Notches save Monday

Helsley pitched 1.1 perfect innings and struck out two to earn the save in Monday's 1-0 win over the Brewers.

Helsley's last six outings have come in three pairs of back-to-back days. He's gone 8.1 innings without allowing a run since returning from a forearm injury, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out 12 in that span. The closer is up to 12 saves, two holds and four blown saves while pitching to a 2.43 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 45:14 K:BB through 33.1 innings this season.

  • Braves' Daysbel Hernandez: Beginning rehab assignment

Hernandez (forearm) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Gwinnett.

Hernandez is currently on the 60-day injured list with right forearm inflammation and isn't eligible to be activated until the final weekend of the 2023 regular season. He had allowed three earned runs through 3.2 innings of relief with Atlanta prior to the IL stint and could simply finish out the year in the minors.

  • Collin McHugh RP | ATL

Braves' Collin McHugh: Set for rehab assignment

McHugh (shoulder) is set to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Gwinnett.

McHugh should be able to return to Atlanta's bullpen by the end of the week, following maybe one or two appearances on the farm. The 36-year-old multi-inning reliever was placed on the 15-day injured list Sept. 6 due to right shoulder inflammation.

  • Lucas Luetge RP | BOS

Braves' Lucas Luetge: Pushed off 40-man roster

Luetge was designated for assignment by Atlanta on Tuesday.

Jesse Chavez (shin) is back from the 60-day injured list to fill the vacated 40-man roster spot. Luetge, 36, has surrendered 11 earned runs in 13.2 innings of relief this season at the major-league level.

  • Jesse Chavez RP | ATL

Braves' Jesse Chavez: Activated from 60-day IL

Atlanta activated Chavez (shin) from the 60-day injured list Tuesday.

Chavez has finally been cleared to return to major-league action following a three-month absence to heal a microfracture in his left shin. The veteran reliever was sporting a 1.55 ERA and 36:9 K:BB through 29 innings prior to the injury and tallied six strikeouts over 3.1 scoreless frames during a three-appearance rehab stint with Triple-A Gwinnett.

  • Anthony Bender RP | MIA

Marlins' Anthony Bender: Facing hitters soon

Bender (elbow) is expected to progress to live batting practice sessions soon, MLB.com reports.

Bender has been throwing off a mound for two months now and is almost ready to face hitters. The reliever is nearly 13 months removed from Tommy John surgery but is not expected to make it back before the end of the season.

  • Marlins' Huascar Brazoban: Throws off mound

Brazoban (hamstring/hip) threw a 35-pitch bullpen session Monday, MLB.com reports.

It's the third time Brazoban has thrown from the bump since he landed on the injured list in mid-August with a left hamstring strain and left hip impingement. It would seem as though the reliever has a good chance to make it back before the end of the season, but a timeline for his activation is uncertain.

  • Josh Hader RP | HOU

Padres' Josh Hader: Secures 30th save

Hader allowed two hits without giving up a run in one-third of an inning to earn the save in Monday's 11-9 win over the Rockies.

The Padres' bullpen nearly blew an eight-run lead, but Hader was eventually able to end the Rockies' comeback hopes despite allowing an inherited runner to score. While far from a pretty effort, Hader was able to secure his 30th save of the season, which was his second in a three-day span after he saw light usage in early September. He's now at a 1.26 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 79:28 K:BB through 50 innings this season.

  • Trevor Megill RP | MIL

Brewers' Trevor Megill: Working as opener

Megill will serve as the Brewers' opening pitcher for Tuesday's game against the Cardinals, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Megill is no stranger to this role, as he opened Milwaukee's matchup Wednesday against Miami and tossed a scoreless frame. The Brewers have yet to reveal who will enter as the bulk reliever, though Adrian Houser and Colin Rea should both be available.

  • Adam Ottavino RP | NYY

Mets' Adam Ottavino: Secures save Monday

Ottavino struck out two batters in a perfect inning and earned a save over Miami on Monday.

Ottavino needed just 12 pitches to quickly close out the 2-1 win Monday. He has 10 strikeouts during his current 5.2-inning scoreless streak, picking up four saves during that span. Ottavino has converted 11 of his 14 save chances while registering a 2.87 ERA through 59.2 innings.
