Martinez shut down Atlanta with seven scoreless innings in his last start, and he's now won three consecutive starts. The veteran right-hander was moved into the rotation Aug. 5 and has earned his spot by allowing one run or fewer in six of his nine starts in that span.

  • Rays' Tyler Alexander: Takes loss in relief

Alexander (6-5) took the loss against the Guardians on Saturday, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts over five innings.

Alexander relieved Drew Rasmussen to open the third inning and was mainly burned by a three-run sixth frame. The 30-year-old didn't allow a homer for the first time since Aug. 4, but he has yielded three earned runs or more in four of his past five outings. On the season, he owns a 5.58 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 78:23 K:BB across 98.1 total innings between the rotation and bullpen.

After starting in his MLB debut, the rookie has pitched in long relief each of his last three outings and has allowed just five earned runs in 17.2 total innings. The 24-year-old will carry a 2.55 ERA into his next appearance.

Orioles' Yennier Cano: Dealing with general soreness

Manager Brandon Hyde said Saturday after Baltimore's 4-2 win over Detroit that Cano has been unavailable to pitch due to soreness, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Cano made his last appearance Wednesday against the Red Sox, when he faced one batter in the eighth inning. Hyde relayed that he's hopeful that Cano will be available for Sunday's series finale against the Tigers. Since the All-Star break, Cano has posted a 2.76 ERA and 1.16 WHIP across 16.1 innings.

Warren made three appearances with the Giants after being recalled from Triple-A on Sept. 6. Over that span, he allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out two across 4.2 innings. The move makes room on San Francisco's 28-man roster for the reinstatement of Jordan Hicks (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list.

  • Rangers' Gerson Garabito: Sent to Triple-A

The Rangers optioned Garabito to Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday.

With Max Scherzer (shoulder) returning from the injured list to start Saturday's contest against the Mariners, Garabito will end up as the odd man out of a roster spot. The 29-year-old righty owns a 3.86 ERA and 1.14 WHIP through 21 innings in the big leagues this season, and he still has a chance to pitch for the Rangers down the stretch if Texas needs a fresh bullpen arm.

Joyce was diagnosed with a right shoulder impingement Saturday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
