Harvey walked one and hit a batter in a scoreless and hitless inning to earn a hold in Wednesday's 8-6 loss to the Diamondbacks.

While the Royals failed to hold the lead, it wasn't Harvey's fault, as he protected a one-run advantage in the eighth inning. Harvey is in a high-leverage role following his trade from the Nationals, though he has yet to differentiate himself from the other middling late-inning options on Kansas City's roster. For the year, he has a 4.21 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 52:14 K:BB with no saves, 27 holds and two blown saves through 47 innings. James McArthur has functioned as the Royals' closer this year, but his continued struggles since May leave him on shaky ground, potentially opening the door for Harvey or other relievers like Chris Stratton, John Schreiber and Sam Long to get looks for saves as long as the team remains in the playoff hunt.

Adam (4-2) allowed four earned runs (two earned) on two walks and two hits while striking out one to take the loss Wednesday against the Blue Jays.

Adam entered the game in the eighth inning with the score tied at 2-2. He retired two of the first three batters he faced but let the next three hitters reach, all of whom came around to score on a pair of fielding miscues by the Rays. Adam has allowed five earned runs across his last three innings, but he still has an excellent 2.54 ERA and 0.91 WHIP across 46 frames on the campaign.

Gilbreath (elbow) allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit and one walk while striking out two across one inning in an Arizona Complex League game Tuesday.

Gilbreath is nearing a return from the Tommy John surgery he underwent in March 2023, and Tuesday's outing marked his first game action since late 2022. His time in the ACL is expected to be brief before his rehab assignment is shifted to the upper minors.

Holton will serve as the Tigers' opening pitcher in Thursday's game in Cleveland, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Kenta Maeda is likely to follow Holton in bulk relief. Holton is serving as an opener for the third time this season after yielding one run over 3.1 innings in the first two appearances.

The Orioles recalled Baker from Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday.

He was just sent down Wednesday, but because he's replacing an injured player in Jorge Mateo (elbow), Baker is eligible to be recalled. The right-hander has posted a 4.32 ERA and 13:5 K:BB over 16.2 innings in 13 relief appearances this season for Baltimore.

Lyles agreed to a minor-league contract with the Dodgers on Thursday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

A starter for most of his career, Lyles was moved to the bullpen coming out of spring training with the Royals but made just five appearances before he was placed on the restricted list April 20 due to a personal matter. Lyles never ultimately rejoined the team before Kansas City released him over the weekend, but the right-hander's willingness to sign with the Dodgers suggests he's ready to return to baseball. Because of the extensive time he's missed, Lyles could need some time to build up at the Dodgers' facility in Arizona before he likely reports to Triple-A Oklahoma City. With the Dodgers having lost multiple starting pitchers to long-term injuries, Lyles should help restore some rotation depth at Oklahoma City and could get a look in the big leagues later in the season if he fares well at Triple-A.

Atlanta recalled Hernandez from Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday.

Hernandez was technically optioned earlier Thursday after serving as the 27th man for Atlanta in Wednesday's doubleheader against the Reds. He never actually left the team, though, and will be back in the bullpen as a middle-relief option.

Webb (1-5) allowed a run on a hit and a walk over one inning, taking the loss Wednesday versus the Marlins.

Webb kept runs off the board in the sixth inning but put a runner on base to start the seventh. Cionel Perez then walked one and gave up two hits as the Marlins rallied for a 6-3 lead, with the decisive run ending up on Webb's line. Prior to Wednesday, Webb had allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out eight over seven scoreless innings in July. The right-hander is at a 2.64 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 44:22 K:BB while adding two saves and 12 holds through 44.1 innings this season.

Gaddis (4-2) struck out three in a perfect inning to earn the win Wednesday over the Tigers.

Gaddis struck out the side on 12 pitches in the eighth inning, and he became the pitcher of record when Josh Naylor put the Guardians ahead with an RBI single in their half of the frame. During his 18.2-inning scoreless streak, Gaddis has allowed seven hits and three walks while striking out 21 and adding nine holds. The setup man has a 1.13 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and 47:8 K:BB through 48 innings this season as a standout performer in baseball's best bullpen.

Scott earned a save against the Orioles on Wednesday, issuing one walk and striking out one batter over one scoreless inning.

Scott entered in the top of the ninth and issued a leadoff walk, but that was wiped out when the next batter he faced grounded into a double play. The left-handed closer then got Ramon Urias to strike out to finish off the victory. The save was the second in as many days for Scott, and he extended his streak of scoreless outings to 16. Over that stretch, Scott has gone 10-for-10 in save opportunities while posting a 20:6 K:BB across 16.2 frames.
