Max Kranick RP | WAS
Pirates' Max Kranick: Optioned to Triple-A
Kranick was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.
The 24-year-old has made two relief appearances for the major-league club this year, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out four over five scoreless innings. In spite of his strong results, Kranick will head back to the minors after Duane Underwood (hamstring) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Thursday.

Aaron Loup RP | LAA
Angels' Aaron Loup: Tagged with loss Wednesday
Loup (0-2) took the loss against Tampa Bay on Wednesday, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits over one inning. He struck out two.
The Angels battled back to tie the game in the eighth inning, and they turned to Loup when the contest went into extra frames. The southpaw immediately served up a double to Vidal Brujan that brought home the designated runner, and Brujan came around to score two batters later on a single by Harold Ramirez. This was a rare poor performance by Loup, who has posted a 1.93 ERA, 0.57 WHIP and 15:2 K:BB while notching six holds over 14 innings on the season.

Lucas Sims RP | CHW
Reds' Lucas Sims: Dealing with bulging disc in back
Sims is dealing with a bulging disc in his back, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Sims was diagnosed with low back spasms when he was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday, and manager David Bell clarified the nature of the 28-year-old's injury following the move. The right-hander started some light exercises and core strengthening Thursday. Bell said he doesn't have a prediction regarding how long Sims will be sidelined but said that he hasn't heard anyone talk about the injury as a long-term issue. Art Warren, Tony Santillan and Hunter Strickland are the top candidates for ninth-inning work in Sims' absence.

Jorge Lopez RP | WAS
Orioles' Jorge Lopez: Expected to return Friday
Lopez (personal) is expected to rejoin the Orioles on Friday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.
Lopez was placed on the bereavement list Tuesday, but it appears as though he'll return after missing the minimum of three days. The right-hander has converted four of five save chances with a 1.13 ERA in 2022 and should be the favorite for ninth-inning work once he's officially activated.

Bryan Baker RP | TB
Orioles' Bryan Baker: Starts bullpen game
Baker struck out three in 2.1 innings, allowing one hit in a 3-2 win Thursday in St. Louis. He did not factor into the decision.
Baker got the nod to start in a bullpen game and retired the first seven batters he faced before allowing a single and being removed in the third. It was his longest outing at any level since 2017 when he played for Single-A Asheville. While the 27-year-old's 4.38 ERA is nothing to write home about, his 14:2 K:BB ratio and one homer allowed in 12.1 innings are promising. He'll likely continue working as a middle reliever for the near future.

Carmen Mlodzinski RP | PIT
Pirates' Carmen Mlodzinski: Placed on injured list
Mlodzinski was placed on the 7-day injured list at Double-A Altoona with a shoulder injury Thursday, retroactive to May 11, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
Mlodzinski missed part of the 2021 season due to a shoulder injury but made six starts at Triple-A Indianapolis over the first month of the 2022 campaign. He posted a 4.63 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 23 innings but will now be forced to miss time with his current shoulder issue. It's not yet clear whether the injury is related to the one that forced him to miss time in 2021, and the right-hander doesn't yet have a timetable to return.

Josh Sborz RP | TEX
Rangers' Josh Sborz: Heads back to Texas
The Rangers recalled Sborz from Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports.
Sborz will be back with the Rangers for the second stint in the majors in less than a week, as he was previously summoned from Triple-A to serve as Texas' 27th man in its doubleheader with the Yankees on Sunday. He'll now be part of the 26-man active roster, this time replacing Kolby Allard, who was optioned to Round Rock in a corresponding move. Expect Sborz's usage out of the bullpen to mostly come in lower-leverage scenarios.

Seth Martinez RP | BOS
Astros' Seth Martinez: Called up as 27th man
Martinez was recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land to serve as the 27th player for Thursday's game against the Twins, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Wednesday's contest was suspended and resumed ahead of Thursday's game, so the right-hander will provide bullpen depth for the impromptu twin bill. Martinez delivered a scoreless frame in his lone big-league appearance this season and has a 4.15 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 9:4 K:BB over 8.2 innings at Sugar Land.

Daniel Hudson RP | LAD
Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Takes loss Wednesday
Hudson (1-2) was tagged with the loss Wednesday against Pittsburgh as a result of allowing one run on three hits over one inning. He struck out one batter.
After the Dodgers scored three runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game, they turned to the usually reliable Hudson in the bottom of the frame. The right-hander was unable to keep the score knotted, as he served up a one-out, solo home run to Daniel Vogelbach. The Pirates' following two batters reached base as well, but Hudson was able to induce an inning-ending double play on a lineout to escape further damage. This was only the second time in Hudson's 10 outings the season that he has been tagged with a run. He carries a 1.86 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 12:2 K:BB across 9.2 innings.

Chase Silseth RP | TEX
Angels' Chase Silseth: Confirmed to start Friday
The Angels confirmed Silseth will be promoted from Double-A Rocket City to start Friday's game against the Athletics in Oakland.
Meanwhile, Jhonathan Diaz will be called up from Triple-A Salt Lake to start the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, so a decision on whether he or Silseth serves as the Angels' sixth starter moving forward will likely be determined by the performances of the two pitchers this weekend. Silseth will be making his MLB debut Friday, skipping the Triple-A level entirely after an excellent start to the campaign at Rocket City. Over five starts spanning 26 innings, Silseth submitted a 1.73 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 37:7 K:BB. The Angels will likely wait until Friday to make his call-up from Double-A official.
