Athletics' Grant Holman: Serving as opener

Holman will start Tuesday's game against the Twins.

The right-hander will make the first start of his MLB career Tuesday as an opener. Holman has a 4.74 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 14:7 K:BB across 19 innings this season and should hand things off to the bullpen after an inning or two.

  • Mets' Brandon Waddell: Back in Queens

The Mets recalled Waddell from Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, Pat Ragazzo of SI.com reports.

Waddell was optioned to Triple-A on Friday but will now rejoin the big club as a replacement for Max Kranick, who was sent to Syracuse in a corresponding move. Waddell has made two appearances out of the bullpen for New York this season, allowing four runs in 9.1 innings while striking out seven batters and walking one.

  • Padres' Bradgley Rodriguez: Returns to Triple-A

The Padres optioned Rodriguez to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday.

The right-hander covered 1.2 scoreless frames in his MLB debut over the weekend but won't stick around with the big-league club. Rodriguez is likely to receive another look with the Padres later this season but will head back to El Paso for the time being.

  • Padres' Ryan Bergert: Called up for first MLB start

The Padres recalled Bergert from Triple-A El Paso ahead of his start against the Giants on Tuesday.

The right-hander delivered four scoreless frames in four relief appearances with the Friars earlier this season, but he's been promoted Tuesday for his first big-league start. Bergert hasn't completed five frames in a start with El Paso since early April, so the 25-year-old shouldn't be expected to work very deep in his first start for San Diego.

  • Zack Kelly RP | BOS

Red Sox's Zack Kelly: Summoned from minors

The Red Sox recalled Kelly from Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Kelly has been touched up for 12 runs (11 earned) over 12 innings for the Red Sox this season. He'll provide the bullpen with a fresh arm.

  • Red Sox's Cooper Criswell: Back in big leagues

The Red Sox recalled Criswell from Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

The Red Sox need some length in their bullpen after Richard Fitts recorded just three outs Monday against the Angels. Criswell has been rocked for eight runs (five earned) over 4.1 innings during his time with Boston this season but has collected a 1.52 ERA while being used primarily as a starter at Worcester.

  • Nick Burdi RP | NYM

Red Sox's Nick Burdi: Goes on IL with foot contusion

The Red Sox placed Burdi on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a right foot contusion, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

He will be eligible to return June 18 and would seem to have a good shot to be activated on that date. Burdi has spun 5.1 scoreless relief innings for the Red Sox this season.

  • George Soriano RP | STL

Marlins' George Soriano: Returns to majors

The Marlins recalled Soriano from Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports.

The right-hander spent most of May in the minors but will rejoin the Marlins on Tuesday with Max Meyer (hip) heading to the injured list. Soriano has an 8.35 ERA, 1.75 WHIP and 19:11 K:BB across 18.1 major-league innings this year and should fill a low-leverage relief role.

  • Caleb Freeman RP | CHW

White Sox's Caleb Freeman: Brought up from Triple-A

The White Sox recalled Freeman from Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday.

Freeman has made four relief appearances in the majors this season, permitting two runs over 2.1 frames. The 27-year-old will give Chicago's bullpen a fresh arm.

  • Beau Brieske RP | DET

Tigers' Beau Brieske: Opening Tuesday's game

Brieske will start Tuesday's game against the White Sox, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Brieske regularly served as an opener for Detroit last season and will receive his first start of 2025 on Tuesday. The right-hander has a 4.95 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 14:8 K:BB across 20 innings this season and isn't likely to pitcher longer than an inning or two versus Chicago.
