Astros' Logan VanWey: Goes on IL at Triple-A

Triple-A Sugar Land placed VanWey on its 7-day injured list Wednesday due to an unspecified injury.

After being optioned to Triple-A on May 11 following a brief stint in the big leagues, VanWey made three appearances out of the Sugar Land bullpen before being shut down with an injury. He's without a clear timeline to return to game action.

  • Luke Weaver SP | NYM

Yankees' Luke Weaver: Tweaks hamstring Sunday

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that Weaver wasn't available out of the bullpen in Sunday's 7-3 win over the Dodgers after experiencing hamstring discomfort while warming up, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

Weaver was gearing up for a save chance with the Yankees entering the top of the ninth inning up 6-3, but he ultimately never entered the contest after New York expanded its lead to 7-3 before the bottom of the frame. The Yankees went with Tim Hill in the bottom of the ninth to finish out the game. Boone noted that Weaver "felt something" while stretching in the bullpen, prompting the Yankees to err on the side of caution and stay away from him. At this time, the Yankees haven't indicated that Weaver is at risk of landing on the injured list, but he could be subject to further testing before the team provides an update on his status. If Weaver is forced to miss out on any save chances moving forward, former closer Devin Williams would likely be the top candidate to assume the ninth-inning role.

  • Alex Young RP | CIN

Reds' Alex Young: Gets elbow surgery

Young revealed in a post on his personal Instagram account that he underwent season-ending surgery on his left elbow March 31.

The exact nature of Young's procedure isn't known, but the 31-year-old revealed in his social media post that doctors informed him that he had been unknowingly pitching with a distal tear in his left elbow for the past nine years. His surgery should provide a permanent fix for the compromised ligament, but it's not clear if Young will be back to full health by the time spring training rolls around. Young is under contract on a minor-league deal with Cincinnati and will have the ability to elect free agency after the season.

  • Emmanuel Clase RP | CLE

Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Fans two for save

Clase struck out two batters in a perfect inning and earned a save against the Angels on Sunday.

Clase fired nine of 10 pitches for strikes and had no issue retiring the Angels' 5-6-7 hitters in order to close out the 4-2 win. He picked up saves on back-to-back days for the first time since May 3 and 4 and has now converted nine straight chances. Since his last blown chance, Clase has posted a 17:2 K:BB with a 1.23 ERA over 14.2 frames. He owns a 3.96 ERA and has converted 13 of 15 saves this season.

  • Giants' Hayden Birdsong: Strikes out five in win

Birdsong (3-1) earned the win against the Marlins on Sunday, allowing one run on five hits and no walks with five strikeouts over 5.1 innings.

Birdsong cruised through five innings but hit a wall in the sixth, surrendering three straight hits and a run before exiting at 88 pitches. The 23-year-old has trimmed his BB/9 from 5.38 last season to 2.84 and has now yielded just four earned runs across his first three starts this year. He'll carry a 2.37 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 40:12 K:BB over 38 innings into a home matchup with Atlanta next weekend.

  • Robert Suarez RP | ATL

Padres' Robert Suarez: Locks down 19th save

Suarez struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the save in Sunday's 6-4 win over the Pirates.

Suarez's scoreless streak is up to 5.1 innings, a span in which he's struck out six while allowing just three hits. Outside of a five-run disaster May 12 versus the Angels, Suarez has been nearly untouchable this season. He's maintained a 2.13 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 28:8 K:BB while converting 19 of 21 save chances over 25.1 innings. He's already over halfway to surpassing his total of 36 saves from the 2024 regular season.

  • Trevor Megill RP | MIL

Brewers' Trevor Megill: Secures 11th save

Megill allowed a hit in a scoreless inning to earn a save against the Phillies on Sunday. He struck out one batter.

Megill coughed up a leadoff single from Brandon Marsh before retiring three straight batters to close out the 5-2 win. It was Megill's 11th save in 12 attempts, and he's converted 10 straight. He's given up two runs over 14.2 frames (1.23 ERA) since blowing a save chance April 12. Megill owns a 2.33 ERA with a 21:11 K:BB through 19.1 innings.

  • Diamondbacks' Justin Martinez: Secures first save since return

Martinez struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the save in Sunday's 3-1 win over the Nationals.

Martinez had been eased back into closing duties since returning from a shoulder injury that cost him most of May. This was his third appearance since coming off the injured list, and he closed the game out after picking up a hold in his last outing Monday versus the Pirates. Martinez is up to four saves, four holds and a blown save over 15 appearances this season. He's also pitched to a 3.46 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 16:7 K:BB across 13 innings. Late-inning duties could continue to be split between Martinez and Shelby Miller in the short term, but the closing job should eventually tilt in Martinez's favor as long as he performs well.

  • Guardians' Erik Sabrowski: Moving rehab to Double-A

Sabrowski (elbow) will move his rehab assignment from the rookie-level Arizona Complex League to Double-A Akron this week, SI.com reports.

Sabrowski has been on the shelf all season with left elbow inflammation but may be a few weeks away from making his 2025 debut with the big club. He began his rehab assignment in the ACL on Friday and has been cleared to advance to a higher-level affiliate despite walking three of the five batters he faced in his lone appearance in rookie ball. Sabrowski is projected to work in a middle-relief role for the Guardians once he's activated from the 60-day injured list.

  • Chase Lee RP | TOR

Tigers' Chase Lee: Improves to 2-0

Lee (2-0) tossed 1.1 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win in Sunday's 1-0 victory over the Royals. He struck out one.

After Detroit starter Keider Montero went 4.2 innings, Lee was asked to face four batters in the middle innings, and he retired all four on only 12 pitches. The rookie righty has been effective with a 1.15 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 15 strikeouts across 15.2 innings. Lee could see his role in the Tigers' bullpen continue to grow as the season progresses based on his promising early results.
