Red Sox's Cooper Criswell: Up as 27th man
The Red Sox added Criswell to their active roster to serve as the 27th man for Friday's doubleheader against Baltimore, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
Criswell hasn't performed well with the Red Sox this season, allowing five earned runs in only 4.1 innings, but he owns a 1.99 ERA across 22.2 frames at Triple-A Worcester. He'll give Boston some extra bullpen depth for Friday's twin bill but is likely to return to the minors following the second game.

Mariners' Blas Castano: Call-up official
The Mariners recalled Castano from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday.
Castano joins the Mariners' bullpen for what will be his MLB debut if he gets into a game. The 26-year-old will likely serve as a multi-inning reliever considering seven of his 10 appearances with Tacoma were starts. Castano has logged a 3.43 ERA and a 28:19 K:BB in 44.2 innings at Triple-A.

Mariners' Jesse Hahn: Booted from 40-man roster
The Mariners designated Hahn for assignment Friday, Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com reports.
Hahn has given up four runs (three earned) with a 3:5 K:BB over five innings this season with the Mariners. He wound up re-signing with Seattle after being removed from its 40-man roster in April, but it's not clear what his intentions are this time around.

Zack Thompson RP | STL
Cardinals' Zack Thompson: Re-evaluated after setback
Thompson is back in St. Louis to be re-evaluated after suffering a setback with his injured left lat, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
Thompson was diagnosed with a left lat strain in early March and shut down for about a month. It's not clear where he was at in his throwing program when he experienced a setback, but more information about his status should be available after he's looked at by doctors in St. Louis.

Athletics' Jacob Lopez: Recalled from Las Vegas
The Athletics recalled Lopez from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Lopez is expected to start Friday against the Phillies, as J.T. Ginn (quadriceps) recently landed on the 15-day injured list. Lopez made a spot start against the Rangers back on April 29, allowing three earned runs on six hits and four walks across 2.2 innings of work. He struck out four and took the loss. Lopez could make multiple starts for the Athletics while Ginn is sidelined.

Tigers' Sean Guenther: Optioned to Triple-A
The Tigers optioned Guenther to Triple-A Toledo on Friday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Guenther has yielded seven runs (six earned) with an 8:5 K:BB over 10.1 innings with the big club this season. He's clearing out to make room on the roster for the return of Matt Vierling (shoulder).

Mets' Frankie Montas: Starting rehab assignment
Montas (lat) said Friday he's beginning a rehab assignment at High-A Brooklyn and will make a start Saturday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Montas suffered a high-grade right lat strain in February and faced hitters for the first time May 16. He's now been cleared to begin what's expected to be a somewhat lengthy rehab assignment. Per Andrew Tredinnick of The Bergen Record, Montas will throw 30-to-35 pitches Saturday. The 32-year-old logged a 4.84 ERA across 150.2 regular-season innings in 2024.

Cardinals' Matt Svanson: Rejoins big-league bullpen
The Cardinals recalled Svanson from Triple-A Memphis on Friday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Svanson has pitched well during his time with the big club this season, permitting two runs with a 7:3 K:BB across 6.2 frames. He will operate in middle relief out of the St. Louis bullpen.

Cardinals' Chris Roycroft: Optioned to Triple-A
The Cardinals optioned Roycroft to Triple-A Memphis on Friday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Roycroft has had two different stints in the majors this season and neither of them have been successful, as he's yielded a 10 runs (eight earned) with a 6:8 K:BB over 10 innings. His spot on the roster and in the bullpen will be absorbed by Matt Svanson.
