Astros' Kaleb Ort: Needs another rehab outing

Ort (oblique) will make one more rehab appearance Wednesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Ort has already appeared in five games during his rehab assignment, during which he's allowed three runs (two earned) while striking out four batters and walking three across 4.1 innings. The Astros will now get him one final tune-up before he joins the active roster for the team's weekend series against Kansas City. Once he returns, the 33-year-old righty is likely to work in middle relief.

  • Beau Brieske RP | DET

Tigers' Beau Brieske: Begins throwing program

Brieske (ankle) began a throwing program Tuesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Brieske landed on the 15-day injured list last Friday with right ankle inflammation but is ready to start ramping things up. The reliever is eligible to return in early May.

  • John Brebbia RP | COL

Tigers' John Brebbia: Resumes throwing program

Brebbia (triceps) has resumed a throwing program, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Brebbia just landed on the 15-day injured list this past weekend with a right triceps strain, so it's a good sign that he's already playing catch. The reliever will be eligible for activation May 4, and it would seem he has a shot to be ready at that time.

  • Cubs' Gavin Hollowell: Joins big-league bullpen

The Cubs recalled Hollowell from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday, Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com reports.

It's the corresponding move for Jordan Wicks, who was optioned to Iowa on Monday. Hollowell had allowed three runs with a 10:3 K:BB over 6.1 frames with Iowa this season. He holds a career 6.00 ERA across 33 big-league appearances.

  • Scott Blewett RP | STL

Braves' Scott Blewett: Serving as opener Tuesday

Blewett will be Atlanta's opening pitcher Tuesday against the Cardinals, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

He's expected to be followed by Nathan Wiles, who will provide bulk relief. It will be the team debut for Blewett, was just acquired via trade from the Orioles on Sunday.

  • Chase Lee RP | TOR

Tigers' Chase Lee: Recalled from Triple-A

The Tigers recalled Lee from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Lee, 26, held a 6.75 ERA but a 12:3 K:BB over his first 9.1 frames with Toledo this season. The right-handed reliever will be making his major-league debut when/if he gets into a game.

  • Zack Kelly RP | BOS

Red Sox's Zack Kelly: Optioned to Triple-A

The Red Sox optioned Kelly to Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday.

He's clearing out to make room on the roster for the return of Brayan Bello (shoulder). Kelly has permitted 10 runs over 10 innings this season, although that's come with an 11:2 K:BB. He'll get another opportunity later on this season.

  • Trevor Stephan RP | CLE

Guardians' Trevor Stephan: Moved to 60-day IL

The Guardians transferred Stephan (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Tuesday.

The move frees a spot on the 40-man roster for Will Wilson, who was called up Tuesday. Stephan is still working his way back from UCL reconstruction surgery and the shift to the 60-day IL doesn't alter his timetable.

  • Casey Lawrence RP | SEA

Mariners' Casey Lawrence: Remains in organization

Lawrence cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.

The right-hander was designated for assignment over the weekend by the Mariners for the second time in April, but he'll again stick in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. Lawrence has given up two earned runs with a 1:1 K:BB over five frames in the majors this season and has a 4.35 ERA across 10.1 innings as a starter for Tacoma.

  • Guardians' Andrew Walters: Shelved at Triple-A

Triple-A Columbus placed Walters on its 7-day injured list Monday due to an unspecified injury.

After failing to win a spot in the Guardians' Opening Day bullpen coming out of spring training, Walters had gotten off to a strong start to the season with Columbus, producing a 1.35 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 13:5 K:BB in 6.2 innings over seven appearances. However, the right-hander sustained an apparent injury during his most recent appearance Wednesday, temporarily halting any momentum he might have built for a promotion to the big leagues.
