Manoah (shoulder) yielded six runs on seven hits and four walks over three innings in a rehab start with Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday.

Manoah had seemed to make some strides in his previous two rehab outings, but he took a big step backward Wednesday. The right-hander's velocity was down 0.8 mph on both his sinker and four-seamer and down 1.4 mph on his slider, which was his most-used pitch in the start. Manoah walked four of the 19 batters he faced and surrendered a pair of home runs. The Blue Jays had seemed optimistic that Manoah would be ready to rejoin their rotation for his next start, but they might reconsider following the righty's struggles Wednesday. Manoah has been out all season with right shoulder inflammation.

Flaherty came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 7-5 loss to the Rays, giving up four runs on seven hits over five innings. He struck out six without walking a batter.

The veteran righty stumbled early, giving up a solo shot to Randy Arozarena in the first inning and three more runs in the second, but he settled down after that and the Tigers took him off the hook for a loss in the top of the sixth. Flaherty generated 30 called or swinging strikes among his 97 pitches, but he's having difficulty keeping the ball in the park -- he's served up a homer in all five of his starts, fueling a 4.91 ERA that isn't in sync with his 1.16 WHIP or 36:4 K:BB through 29.1 innings. He lines up for a potential revenge game in his next trip to the mound, a home matchup early next week against the Cardinals.

Anderson (2-3) took the loss against the Orioles on Wednesday, allowing two runs on four hits and four walks over five frames. He struck out seven.

Anderson struggled with his command in the loss, hitting Gunnar Henderson with a pitch to open the game before going on to issue a season-high four walks over his five innings of work. However, he also managed to post a season-high seven strikeouts while inducing 14 swings and misses on the afternoon. Despite taking his third loss of the season, Anderson has actually been a solid arm for the Angels early in the campaign and is yet to allow more than three runs in a start. He's also gone at least seven innings in three of his five outings and still carries a shiny 1.78 ERA heading into his next start.

Kremer (1-2) earned the win Wednesday over the Angels, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk over 5.1 innings while striking out 10.

Kremer shut out the Angels over the first five innings before surrendering a solo homer to Mike Trout in the sixth, followed by a single to Nolan Schanuel, which would lead to the right-hander being relieved by Jacob Webb. Kremer dominated Los Angeles' lineup with his four-seamer throughout the day while matching his career high with 10 strikeouts. He's now allowed three or fewer hits in three of his five starts to open the season, though he's also given up at least one home run in all but one of those outings.

Scherzer (back) allowed three runs on five hits while striking out four over 2.1 innings in a rehab appearance for Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday.

Scherzer kicked off a rehab assignment Wednesday, giving up a pair of home runs while running his pitch count to 52, including 11 swinging strikes. That's in line with his progression after throwing 40 in his most recent live batting practice session. Scherzer's velocity was down across the board, per Kennedi Landry of MLB.com, but that is to be expected from the right-hander, who is working his way back from offseason back surgery.

Miller (3-2) took the loss against Texas on Wednesday, allowing two runs on four hits and four walks while striking out five batters over four-plus innings.

Miller made it through three scoreless frames before the Rangers got to him for a pair of solo homers in the fourth. The right-hander did come back out to the mound for the fifth frame, but he was pulled after issuing a leadoff walk, having thrown 83 pitches to that point. Miller's three-game quality start streak was thus snapped, as was his three-game win streak. He'll try to get back on track the next time he takes the mound, which lines up for early next week versus Atlanta.

Gray allowed one run on seven hits and one walk while striking out seven batters over 4.2 innings in a no-decision against Seattle on Wednesday.

Gray pitched well as a starter four days after making a surprise 1.2-inning relief appearance against Atlanta, but he was pulled with two runners on base and two outs in the fifth after having thrown 92 pitches. Texas was up 2-1 at the time, so the ill-timed hook cost him a chance at earning his first win of 2024. Nonetheless, this was another positive outing for the right-hander, who has now given up one or fewer earned runs in each of his past five trips to the mound (including the relief outing).

Arrighetti (0-3) took the loss against the Cubs on Wednesday, allowing four runs on seven hits and and two walks while striking out seven batters over 3.2 innings.

The seven punchouts were nice, and Arrighetti racked up 13 whiffs among his 90 pitches, but Chicago's bats were productive when they made contact. All four of the runs against the right-hander came in the first inning, with the biggest blow being a three-run homer off the bat of Dansby Swanson. Arrighetti has lost all three of his outings this season while posting a 10.97 ERA and 2.34 WHIP, so it's fair to wonder if he'll get another chance to start anytime soon, especially with Houston having two days off over the next week.

Urquidy (forearm) threw a bullpen session Monday, MLB.com reports.

The session marked Urquidy's first time pitching from a mound since mid-March. The team is hoping to get him back in May, though he'll likely need a fairly lengthy ramp-up process.

Carrasco (1-2) took the loss Wednesday against Boston, allowing five runs on nine hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out four.

After picking up a win against the Red Sox in his last outing, Carrasco had a far more difficult time Wednesday, giving up his first three home runs of the season en route to an eventual 8-0 defeat. The 37-year-old Carrasco hadn't allowed more than three earned runs in a start this year prior to Wednesday's loss. His ERA is now up to 4.63 with a 1.63 WHIP and 20:13 K:BB through his first five starts (23.1 innings). Carrasco will look to get back on track in his next outing, currently scheduled for early next week in Houston.
