Sale will undergo an MRI on his left shoulder Friday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
Sale was pulled from Thursday's game against Cincinnati due to shoulder soreness and experienced a drop in velocity during his start. The 34-year-old southpaw held a 2.25 ERA and 0.75 WHIP across his last five starts entering Thursday.

The Red Sox will take a look at him and provide more information relatively soon.

Triston McKenzie SP | SD
Guardians' Triston McKenzie: Season debut coming Sunday
McKenzie (shoulder) will be reinstated from the 60-day injured list to start Sunday's game in Minnesota, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.
McKenzie suffered a teres major muscle strain in his final Cactus League start this spring and wound up missing the first two months of the 2023 regular season, but he's ready to rock now following three minor-league rehab outings with Triple-A Columbus. The young right-hander broke out to the tune of a 2.96 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 190:44 K:BB over 191.1 regular-season innings last year with Cleveland.

Cal Quantrill RP | TEX
Guardians' Cal Quantrill: IL stint coming
Quantrill will be placed on the 15-day injured list Friday due to right shoulder inflammation, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.
Quantrill's shoulder injury could help explain his recent struggles, as he allowed eight runs through 4.1 innings during his last start Tuesday. He received an injection Thursday and will be shut down for a few days before beginning a throwing program. Quantrill's move to the IL will make room for Aaron Civale (oblique) to return Friday.

Kevin Gausman SP | CHC
Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Fans 11 in fourth win
Gausman (4-3) struck out 11 and allowed five hits and two walks across 6.2 scoreless innings to earn the win Thursday against the Brewers.
The right-hander produced 34 called or swinging strikes as he shut down Milwaukee to help deliver a series win for Toronto. Gausman has been dominant over his past five starts and has given up just five earns runs with 42 strikeouts during that span. Mike Clevinger RP | PIT
White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Expected back Friday
Clevinger (wrist) is expected to return from the 15-day injured list to start Friday's series opener versus the Tigers at Guaranteed Rate Field, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.
Jesse Scholtens had been serving as the White Sox's No. 5 starter since Clevinger landed on the IL on May 21, but manager Pedro Grifol's decision to use Scholtens in long relief behind Lance Lynn in Wednesday's loss to the Angels signals that Clevinger is on track to be activated this weekend. Since Clevinger tossed a simulated game Monday, Grifol acknowledged that he may look to shave about 10 pitches off the right-hander's normal workload if he does in fact get the green light to start Friday on three days' rest.

Carlos Rodon SP | NYY
Yankees' Carlos Rodon: Moved to 60-day IL
Rodon (back/forearm) was transferred Thursday from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.
This is mostly just a procedural move to clear out a 40-man roster spot for Tommy Kahnle, who is recovered from a bout of biceps tendinitis and has been activated off the 60-day IL in a corresponding move. Rodon remains without a timetable to return from his lingering back and forearm injuries, though he did recently resume throwing off a mound and has another bullpen session scheduled for Friday.

Frankie Montas RP | NYM
Yankees' Frankie Montas: Begins throwing program
Montas (shoulder) began a throwing program Tuesday, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.
Montas had been shut down for 14 weeks following arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder back in late February. The right-hander has professed a desire to return this season and has a shot to do so, although it likely wouldn't be before September and it's not clear what kind of role he might be able to fill. Montas is slated to hit free agency after the season.

Ken Waldichuk SP | WAS
Athletics' Ken Waldichuk: Works out of bullpen
Waldichuk pitched the seventh inning of Wednesday's 4-2 loss to Atlanta, giving up one earned run on two hits and one walk while striking out one.
After pitching an inning as an opener in front of Luis Medina in his last appearance Sunday against the Astros, Waldichuk filled a more traditional relief role Wednesday for the first time all season. Though Oakland likely still views Waldichuk as a starter over the long haul, he looks as though he'll be relegated to the bullpen after logging a 7.40 ERA and 1.97 WHIP in 48.2 innings over his first 10 outings of the season.
