Schmidt (2-5) took the loss against Baltimore on Thursday, allowing one run on five hits and two walks while striking out four batters over five innings.

Schmidt had to work hard to get through five frames, as Baltimore fouled off 26 of his offerings, resulting in the hurler tossing 97 total pitches. Aside from that, it was a pretty smooth start for the right-hander -- he allowed just one extra-base hit and one run while keeping the ball in the park for his third straight start. However, the Yankees' offense couldn't solve Kyle Gibson, causing Schmidt to take his fifth loss. There was some thought earlier in the campaign that Schmidt could be pushed out of the rotation upon the return of Luis Severino, but he's pitched well enough recently to keep his spot, allowing two or fewer runs in four of his past five starts. When Severino returned last weekend, it was Jhony Brito who was optioned to the minors.

Gibson (6-3) earned the win over the Yankees on Thursday, pitching seven scoreless inning during which he allowed two hits and four walks while striking out three batters.

Gibson didn't have his best control Thursday -- he threw just 56 of 96 pitches for a strike and walked a season-high four batters -- but he negated the impact of the wildness by allowing just a pair of singles. The right-hander notched his sixth quality start of the campaign, three of which have come over his past four outings. Gibson has worked as the ace for a thriving Orioles squad, posting six wins and a 3.82 ERA through 11 starts.

Sears allowed a run on three hits and struck out one over five innings in a no-decision versus the Mariners on Thursday.

Sears threw just 59 pitches (40 strikes), but Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports this was likely a tactical decision rather than anything influenced by injuries, as the Athletics didn't want Sears to go a third time through the order. The lone blemish on his line was a Ty France solo shot in the first inning, making this his third straight start where he allowed three runs or fewer. Sears lowered his season ERA to 4.70 with a 1.10 WHIP and 52:10 K:BB through 53.2 innings over 10 starts. He's projected for a challenging home start versus Atlanta next week.

Gilbert (3-2) allowed two runs on three hits and struck out six over eight innings to earn the win Thursday over the Athletics.

Gilbert allowed two of the first four batters he faced to record a hit, with Seth Brown taking him deep for a two-run home run. After that Gilbert allowed one more single while throwing just 77 pitches (59 strikes) in an efficient start. The right-hander has six quality starts among his 10 outings this season, and this was the second time he issued no walks. For the season, he's at a 3.60 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 69;10 K:BB through 60 innings. Gilbert will likely be tested a bit more in a home start versus the Yankees next week.

Faedo (1-2) allowed two runs on three hits across six innings to earn the win Thursday against the White Sox. He struck out 10.

Faedo's first win of the season was a surprising performance, as he came into the game with just 12 strikeouts in three previous starts this year. The righty entered the rotation in early May following the demotion of Spencer Turnbull (neck), and he's done pretty well with a 4.15 ERA and 0.74 WHIP across 21.2 innings. Faedo figures to stick as the team's No. 5 starter and take the hill again early next week against the Rangers.

Eflin (7-1) earned the win Thursday, allowing one run on six hits and two walks over seven innings in a 6-3 victory over the Blue Jays.

Eflin didn't record a strikeout Thursday, but he was able to induce 13 groundouts, holding Toronto to just one run in the victory. Eflin has now won three consecutive outings while recording seven innings in his last two starts. The 29-year-old right-hander lowered his ERA to 3.17 with a 1.02 WHIP and an excellent 52:7 K:BB through nine starts (54 innings) in his first season with Tampa.

Manoah (1-5) took the loss Thursday, allowing five runs on three hits and five walks over three innings against Tampa Bay. He struck out six.

Command was an issue for Manoah again Thursday-- he's issued 13 walks over his last three starts (12 innings), raising his BB/9 to 6.4. The 25-year-old right-hander's ERA is up to 5.53 with a 1.79 WHIP and 46:38 K:BB through 11 starts (53.2 innings) this season. Manoah will look to get on track in his next outing, currently lined up for next week at home against the Brewers.

Vasquez will make his major-league debut for the Yankees on Friday versus the Padres, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.

The Yankees don't have a starter listed for Friday, but Vasquez was spotted in the clubhouse and confirmed reports that he'd be starting. Vasquez has posted a 4.85 ERA and 50:23 K:BB over 42.2 innings covering nine starts this season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He's a solid pitching prospect but wouldn't be an advisable streamer versus San Diego.

Glasnow (oblique) is listed as the Rays' probable pitcher for Saturday's game against the Dodgers, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.

That's the day where Glasnow's name had been written down in pencil and it appears now it can be written in ink. Glasnow was superb during his rehab assignment while coming back from an oblique injury, yielding just one run while posting a 20:5 K:BB over 13.1 innings covering four starts. He got his pitch count up to 67 in his final rehab outing, so he won't be available for a full workload Saturday.

Blackburn (finger) covered five innings Wednesday in his latest rehab start with Triple-A Las Vegas, striking out five while allowing one earned run on five hits and one walk.

Blackburn has resided on the 15-day injured list all season with a right middle fingernail avulsion, but he's now made a total of six starts in the minors over the course of two separate rehab assignments. He was pulled off the first rehab assignment in April after redeveloping a blister, but he's remained free of setbacks and has steadily built back up upon starting a new rehab assignment May 14. After tossing 73 pitches Wednesday and doing well to silence the Triple-A Tacoma bats, Blackburn could be cleared to return from the IL to make his 2023 debut with Oakland. The Athletics will likely re-evaluate him following a bullpen session over the weekend before deciding if he's ready to be activated during the team's upcoming three-game series with Atlanta that begins Monday.
