Rodriguez (illness) was examined by the Red Sox's medical staff Thursday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

"We haven't gotten results yet," Boston manager Ron Roenicke said later in the day. "If we know anything more, I'm hoping I do in the next day or two, then we'll get it to you and see where he is. Hopefully everything is good and we can start at least playing catch with him again." Rodriguez was diagnosed with myocarditis -- inflammation of the heart -- and the condition is believed to be related to COVID-19. The Red Sox are not rushing Rodriguez back, but they are hoping the left-hander can pitch in 1-2 inning stints at some point.

Singer pitched five innings against Detroit on Thursday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three. He did not factor in the decision.

Singer didn't rack up many punchouts Thursday, but he mostly held down Detroit's offense while throwing 54 of 82 pitches for strikes. The Tigers' only two runs against Singer came on a pair of solo home runs, but that was enough to prevent the right-hander from picking up a win. Singer has held his own through his first two outings and will look to pick up his first big-league victory in a road outing against the Cubs on Tuesday.

Berrios (0-1) took the loss in Thursday's matchup against Cincinnati, hurling five innings and allowing two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out six.

Berrios' second start of the season was a vast improvement over his initial outing, during which he gave up five runs across four innings. However, the right-hander was overmatched by a dominant Shane Bieber and handed his first loss of 2020. Berrios was pulled after five innings due to racking up a hefty 96 pitches, though the only real damage against him was a third inning home run off the bat of Francisco Lindor. Berrios will look for his first win of the campaign Tuesday when he faces Pittsburgh at home in his next scheduled start.

Bieber (2-0) earned the win against Minnesota on Thursday, pitching eight scoreless innings and allowing three hits while striking out 13.

If you're looking to identify the most impressive pitcher to begin the 2020 campaign, the search ends with Bieber -- he has yet to allow a run in his first two starts while yielding only seven hits and racking up 27 strikeouts over 14 innings. The right-hander evolved into a legitimate ace last season and has taken that a step further in 2020, following his dominant first start with a complete shutdown of a potent Minnesota offense. All three hits against Bieber on Thursday were singles, and he induced an impressive 22 swinging strikes en route to 13 punchouts. Bieber will look to extend his scorching start to the campaign Tuesday in an intrastate matchup at Cincinnati.

Bundy (1-1) allowed three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out eight in six innings in a loss to the Mariners on Thursday.

Bundy cruised after allowing a three-run homer to Jose Marmolejos in the first inning, and the end result just met the standard for a quality start. The right-handed Bundy now has a 2.84 ERA through 12.2 innings this season. He's projected to start in a rematch in Seattle next Thursday.

Gonzales (1-1) allowed two unearned runs on three hits and a walk while striking out six over 6.1 innings in a win over the Angels on Thursday.

Gonzales' only blemish was a fifth-inning two-run home run by Angels catcher Max Stassi, but due to an earlier error, the runs were unearned. The 28-year-old Gonzales made improvements over his previous outing, when he allowed four runs (three earned) in 4.1 innings versus the Astros. The southpaw maintains his status as the Mariners' ace and will likely get a rematch at home versus the Angels on Wednesday.

Means allowed five earned runs on two hits and a walk while striking out two across 2.1 innings Thursday against the Yankees. He did not factor into the decision.

Means showed signs of rust early, hitting two batters and walking one among the first five hitters he faced. However, he ran into real trouble when Luke Voit -- the sixth batter of the first inning -- came to the plate with the bases loaded and belted a grand slam. More positively, Means rebounded to retire the final four batters he faced, including a swinging strikeout of Aaron Judge. Means threw only 51 pitches, so it's unclear how deep the Orioles will let him work in his second start of the campaign. He currently lines up for a rematch with the Yankees on Tuesday.

Perez (1-1) allowed two runs on two hits and four walks while striking out five across 5.2 innings to earn the win Thursday against the Mets.

Perez pitched a fairly clean game with the exception of the third inning, when he walked two batters and hit another. That loaded the bases for Jeff McNeil, who singled into left field to drive in a pair. It was a bounce-back performance from Perez, as he had surrendered four earned runs in his first start with Boston. He'll face a tough test in his next scheduled start, which is currently projected for Wednesday at Tampa Bay.

Ryu (0-1) allowed five earned runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out five across 4.1 innings to take the loss Thursday against the Nationals.

Ryu worked two clean innings to start the game, but then surrendered runs in each of his final three frames to turn in a disappointing start. Four of the nine hits he surrendered went for extra bases, the most harmful of which was a two-run home run by Michael Taylor. While it's only two outings, Ryu has gotten off to a rocky start with the Blue Jays, surrendering eight earned runs across nine innings pitched.

Manager Ron Roenicke said Rodriguez (illness) is still a ways away from game action, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.

Rodriguez remains shut down as he continues to wait for his bout of heart inflammation (a result of his battle with COVID-19) to subside, and even when he's cleared to resume physical activity, it sounds like he will need plenty of time to build his arm back up. While the southpaw remains sidelined, Matt Hall is a candidate to start in his place.
