  • Kenta Maeda SP | NYY

Twins' Kenta Maeda: Sharp in final tuneup

Maeda gave up three runs over five innings with seven strikeouts and threw 85 pitches in Monday's scrimmage, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Maeda looks ready for the regular season and may not be limited in his first few outings. The 31-year-old was moved to the bullpen multiple times in the last couple years given the Dodgers' plethora of starting options, but he should have a solidified spot in the Twins' starting rotation in 2020.

  • James Paxton SP | BOS

Yankees' James Paxton: Tosses sim game for final tuneup

Paxton threw 84 pitches over five innings in a simulated game Monday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Paxton could have faced Philadelphia in Monday night's exhibition contest, but the Yankees decided to have him throw a simulated game instead because he's lined up to face the Phillies early in the season. Paxton should be ready to take on a full workload when he toes the mound against Washington in his first regular-season outing Saturday.

  • Matt Manning SP | PHI

Tigers' Matt Manning: Reassigned to alternate site

Manning was reassigned to the Tigers' alternate training site Monday.

Manning and fellow top pitching prospect Casey Mize were both sent to the Tigers' alternate camp in Toledo. If there was a minor-league season in 2020, Manning would have likely pitched at Triple-A and been in line for a promotion to the majors at some point. That could still happen this summer, but the 22-year-old won't be on Detroit's Opening Day roster.

  • Casey Mize SP | SD

Tigers' Casey Mize: Reassigned to Toledo

Mize was reassigned to the Tigers' alternate training site Monday.

This makes it official that Mize won't begin the year in the majors, but it was never really expected that he'd break camp with the Tigers. The 23-year-old is still one of the team's top prospects, and he could make his debut at some point this summer.

  • Brad Keller RP | PHI

Royals' Brad Keller: Completes simulated game

Keller (not injury related) completed a simulated game Sunday, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

Keller remains on the Royals' COVID-19 injured list, but after reporting to camp Friday, the right-hander is healthy again and merely building up to a starter's workload at this point. Lewis suggests there's a chance Keller could build up to a 3-to-4-inning workload at some point this week, which could make him a candidate to make his season debut when the Royals first require a fifth starter July 28 in Detroit. Jorge Lopez and Glenn Sparkman look like the top candidates for a spot start in the event Keller needs to miss his first turn through the rotation.

  • Chase Anderson RP | TEX

Blue Jays' Chase Anderson: Bullpen session scheduled

Anderson (oblique) threw from 120 feet Monday and will throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Anderson will be opening the season on the injured list due to an oblique strain he's dealt with throughout summer camp, but the fact that he's nearly ready to throw a bullpen session is certainly a good sign. Starts are available for the Blue Jays until he returns, with Ryan Borucki, Anthony Kay and Nate Pearson lining up as the primary candidates.

  • Alex Faedo SP | TB

Tigers' Alex Faedo: Sent to secondary site

Faedo (undisclosed) was reassigned to the Tigers' alternate training site Monday.

Faedo has been on the 10-day injured list for unspecified reasons, though he was cleared to work out Monday. Previous reports indicated that he'd be at Comerica Park, but he'll be heading to join the team's secondary site instead.

  • Yankees' Jordan Montgomery: Shines in exhibition

Montgomery cruised through five scoreless innings Sunday in the Yankees' 6-0 exhibition win over the Mets, striking out six while giving up two hits and one walk.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone hasn't formally named Montgomery as a member of the rotation, but that appears to be a foregone conclusion after the lefty turned in a gem in his final outing of summer camp. After making just two appearances for the Yankees in 2019 while he recovered from his June 2018 Tommy John surgery, Montgomery isn't expected to face any notable restrictions during the 60-game 2020 slate.

  • Julio Teheran SP | BAL

Angels' Julio Teheran: Details positive COVID-19 test

Teheran confirmed Sunday that his late arrival at Angels camp was the result of a positive COVID-19 test, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Teheran, who wasn't cleared to work out with the Angels until Saturday, revealed that he first experienced symptoms of the coronavirus in late June, with those complications including fever, chills, body aches, headaches and a loss of taste. Nearly a month later, Teheran has apparently passed all COVID-19-related protocols, but he estimated that he's still about "a week behind" schedule in his normal throwing program. Though the Angels were satisfied with Teheran's bullpen session Saturday, he'll likely require some additional time to ramp up to a starter's workload, so expect him to remain on the COVID-19 injured list when the Angels begin their season this weekend. Teheran could be ready to make his first start of 2020 in the final week of July or the first week of August.

  • Alex Faedo SP | TB

Tigers' Alex Faedo: Cleared to work out

Faedo (undisclosed) has been cleared to join his teammates and will be at Monday's workout at Comerica Park.

The Tigers never specified a reason for Faedo's delayed arrival. The righty will be part of the Tigers' player pool this season, though whether he'll make his big-league debut remains to be seen, as he's yet to reach Triple-A.
