  • Jose Berrios SP | TOR

Twins' Jose Berrios: Rough outing Friday

Berrios (8-4) allowed six runs (three earned) on nine hits with no walks and five strikeouts across 7.1 innings while taking a loss against the White Sox on Friday.

Two Twins errors led to three unearned runs charged to Berrios. It didn't help that he yielded two homers, but without the errors, it could have been a very different night. Besides the loss, Berrios escaped without many of his other numbers taking too much damage. He has a 2.89 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 102 strikeouts in 112 innings this season. Berrios will start next at the Athletics on Thursday.

  • John Means SP | KC

Orioles' John Means: ERA down to 2.50

Means (7-4) tossed five scoreless innings Friday against the Indians, giving up one hit and one walk while striking out five. He picked up the win.

This was his first start off the injured list after not having pitched since June 16, so that's why he was not allowed to go deeper into the outing while sitting at 84 pitches (53 strikes). Means now has a 2.50 ERA that ranks fifth in the majors behind only Hyun-Jin Ryu, Mike Soroka, Mike Minor and Charlie Morton. His 3.94 FIP illustrates the fact that he may be pitching a little over his head, but he has nonetheless been extremely effective through 75.2 innings. His next start will come Wednesday in Tampa Bay.

  • Mike Clevinger RP | PIT

Indians' Mike Clevinger: Lit up by O's

Clevinger (1-2) gave up seven earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out two in 1.2 innings Friday against the Orioles. He took the loss.

The Orioles scored a season-high 13 runs, in large part due to Clevinger's ineffectiveness. He touched 99 mph on the evening, so it's not like velocity was the problem, but the Orioles were still able to tee off on him while also working the count to their benefit. Clevinger needed 52 pitches (29 strikes) to get five outs. This seemed like a favorable matchup on paper, even with it being in Baltimore. Clevinger will have another seemingly favorable matchup Wednesday in Kansas City.

  • Jesus Luzardo SP | PHI

Athletics' Jesus Luzardo: Starting again at Triple-A

Luzardo (shoulder) will start again for Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. The plan is for him to extend to six innings or around 90 pitches.

He threw five innings (66 pitches) Thursday and looked sharp with four strikeouts and zero walks. It sounds like Luzardo could make another Triple-A start after Tuesday's outing before entering the big-league rotation after the All-Star break.

  • Dylan Cease SP | TOR

White Sox's Dylan Cease: 'Awful close' to a promotion

Cease is "awful close" to being promoted to the majors, per general manager Rick Hahn, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

This lines up with Hahn's comments regarding Cease from a couple weeks ago, and now it sounds like it could be days, not weeks, before Cease is making his MLB debut. He has a 4.62 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 68:29 K:BB in 64.1 innings at Triple-A, so he will probably have some hiccups initially in the majors, but he has a high ceiling long term if he can improve his command/control.

  • Corey Kluber SP | BOS

Indians' Corey Kluber: Cleared to play catch

Kluber (forearm) has been cleared to play catch, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Kluber underwent an MRI this week, and after reading the results, doctors cleared him to resume throwing. Kluber is able to throw from 60 feet, so he still has several steps to go before he is ready to pitch for Cleveland again.

  • Mike Clevinger RP | PIT

Indians' Mike Clevinger: Activated from injured list

Clevinger (ankle) was activated from the injured list Friday.

Clevinger is ready to pitch again after spending time on the injured list for a second time this season. Luckily for fantasy players and Indians fans, his latest stint was far shorter, as he will return to the mound after missing only the minimum 10 days. Clevinger will jump right back into Cleveland's rotation and take the ball Friday night against Baltimore.

  • Rangers' Jeffrey Springs: Shifts to 60-day IL

Springs (biceps) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday.

Springs recently landed on the 10-day IL with left biceps tendinitis, and now this transaction makes him ineligible for a return until late August. Jesse Biddle was acquired via waivers and will take Springs' spot on the 40-man roster.

  • Tigers' Spencer Turnbull: Moves to injured list

Turnbull was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday with right shoulder fatigue.

Turnbull was removed from Thursday's start after two innings due to the shoulder fatigue and will require at least 10 days to get healthy. The 26-year-old already had an MRI come back clean, so he appears to have avoided any structural damage. Turnbull will have some additional time to recover since he can't be activated until after the All-Star break.

  • John Means SP | KC

Orioles' John Means: Returns from injured list

Means (shoulder) was activated off the 10-day injured list Friday.

Means will return to the starting rotation Friday against the Indians after missing one start due to a left shoulder strain. The 26-year-old has a 2.67 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 59:21 K:BB over 70.2 innings this season and will look to build on his breakout campaign versus Cleveland.
