  • James Paxton SP | BOS

Mariners' James Paxton: Extends to 90 feet

Paxton (forearm) extended his distance out to 90 feet during Monday's session, TJ Cotterill of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.

Though Paxton continues to show "good progress" according to manager Scott Servais, he is unlikely to return this weekend since the Mariners will be in a National League ballpark against the Diamondbacks. The next step for Paxton will be a mound session, which will provide a better indication for the left-hander's eventual return date.

  • Chris Sale SP | ATL

Red Sox's Chris Sale: Won't return after minimum

Sale (shoulder) has yet to resume throwing and won't return when first eligible Saturday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Sale insisted that he wasn't worried when he was first placed on the disabled list and reportedly remains in "good spirits." Nevertheless, this latest news is certainly not a good sign for the lefty, who hit the disabled list Saturday for the second time in three weeks with the same injury (shoulder inflammation).

  • Angels' Odrisamer Despaigne: Receiving another start Wednesday

Despaigne is listed as the Angels' probable starter for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Despaigne was roughed up in his Angels debut over the weekend, letting in five runs on seven hits and a walk in a loss to the Rangers. Despite the unimpressive showing along with his mediocre numbers over 44 career big-league starts, Despaigne will stick in the rotation for another turn with the Angels lacking in healthy alternatives who possess 40-man roster spots. Despaigne will likely shift to the bullpen or head to Triple-A Salt Lake once two of Tyler Skaggs (groin), Nick Tropeano (shoulder), Matt Shoemaker (forearm) or Shohei Ohtani (elbow) are cleared to rejoin the rotation.

  • Astros' Justin Verlander: Earns 12th win, 200th of career

Verlander (12-8) allowed four earned runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out six across 5.1 innings but earned the win Sunday against the Athletics. It was the right-hander's 200th career win.

Verlander surrendered three home runs in the first three innings -- Khris Davis took him deep twice -- but bounced back to pitch his final 2.1 innings without surrendering a run. After allowing multiple home runs three times in his first 20 starts, Verlander has now allowed multiple home runs in four of his past seven outings. In that span, his ERA has risen from 2.05 to 2.65. While that's still an excellent mark that's good enough for fourth in the American League, his recent susceptibility to the long ball is at least worth noting. Verlander will look for career win No. 201 on Saturday against the Angels.

  • Red Sox's Eduardo Rodriguez: Will throw four frames at Double-A

Rodriguez (ankle) is scheduled to throw around four innings in his rehab start Monday at Double-A Portland, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

The Red Sox will wait and see how Rodriguez performs in his first rehab outing before determining whether the southpaw will require another start in the minors or if he'll be ready to rejoin the Boston rotation as soon as the upcoming weekend. Rodriguez, who has been shut down since July 14 with a severe right ankle sprain, had emerged as perhaps the team's second-best starter prior to suffering the injury, logging a 3.44 ERA and 110:32 K:BB across 104.2 innings in 19 starts.

  • Mike Clevinger RP | PIT

Indians' Mike Clevinger: Picks up ninth win

Clevinger (9-7) threw six shutout innings Sunday against the Orioles, allowing seven hits and one walk while striking out seven. He picked up the win.

In the first inning, Clevinger appeared to be in trouble, with runners on first and third with one out, but he was able to pick off Jonathan Villar at first base and then struck out Mark Trumbo to end the threat. This was Clevinger's fifth pickoff of the season. He now ranks 18th in MLB with 155 strikeouts through 157.2 innings. Look for him to make his next start Friday in another favorable matchup in Kansas City.

  • Twins' Jake Odorizzi: Allows four runs in no-decision

Odorizzi allowed four runs on four hits and two walks across five innings in a no-decision Sunday against the Tigers. He struck out seven.

Odorizzi pitched quite well to start the game, allowing just one run on three hits over the first five innings. He ran into trouble in the sixth, when he allowed the first three men to reach and watched as they each came around to score against the bullpen. Odorizzi didn't pitch particularly well, throwing 60 percent of his pitches for strikes and generating just three groundball outs as he failed to pitch six full innings for the fifth straight start. He has recorded 16 strikeouts over 10.2 innings in his last two outings, however, and will look to continue that trend in his next scheduled start against the Athletics.

  • Michael Kopech SP | LAD

White Sox's Michael Kopech: Set for debut Tuesday

Kopech will make his major-league debut Tuesday against the Twins.

Kopech, part of the package which sent Chris Sale to the Red Sox prior to the 2017 season, has long been seen as a flamethrower whose command may hold him back from reaching his frontline starter ceiling. A quick glance at his season line suggests that's still the case, as his walk rate sits at a worryingly high 11.1 percent in 24 starts for Triple-A Charlotte. He hasn't walked a single batter in his last three starts, however, and has walked a total of just four in his last seven, striking out 59 over that stretch. He has the potential to provide a major strikeout boost to fantasy owners down the stretch, even if his ERA and WHIP are mediocre.

  • James Paxton SP | BOS

Mariners' James Paxton: Throws long toss Sunday

Paxton (forearm) threw long toss from about 70-to-75 feet Sunday, TJ Cotterill of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.

Mariners skipper Scott Servais said Paxton's first throwing activity since hitting the disabled list last week went according to plan, but the team will wait another day or two before projecting a timetable for the left-hander's return. For what it's worth, Paxton noted that he still experienced some swelling his forearm after the session and estimated that he went at about 60 percent effort, according to TJ Cotterill of The Tacoma News Tribune reports. The Mariners could clear Paxton to resume mound work soon, though it doesn't appear especially promising that he'll be ready to return from the DL at any point during the upcoming week.

  • Marcus Stroman SP | NYY

Blue Jays' Marcus Stroman: Shifts to DL

The Blue Jays placed Stroman (finger) on the 10-day disabled list Sunday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

For the second time this season, Stroman will be shut down due to a nagging blister issue, which resurfaced on his right middle finger during his start Friday against the Yankees. With the Blue Jays determining that Stroman wouldn't be ready to make his next start, he'll be moved to the DL to create a spot on the active roster for Thomas Pannone, who was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday. Pannone is slated to enter the rotation in place of Stroman on Wednesday against the Orioles.
