  • James Paxton SP | BOS

Mariners' James Paxton: Scheduled to start Tuesday

Paxton (finger) will throw a bullpen session Saturday, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports.

Paxton had a fake fingernail put on his hand to help repair a torn nail. Saturday's bullpen session will be done to test his ability to throw following the application of his new nail. As long as the session goes well, he's expected to start Tuesday against the Rangers.

  • Corey Kluber SP | BOS

Indians' Corey Kluber: Will make next start Tuesday

Kluber will make his next start Tuesday against the Astros, Zack Meisel of Cleveland.com reports.

Pitching Tuesday means Kluber will get an extra day of rest between starts, but that also will line him up to pitch during a key series with the Tigers later this month. The Indians have not announced a starter for Monday's game, but are tentatively planning to use several relievers to get through that day's contest.

  • Dallas Keuchel SP | MIL

Astros' Dallas Keuchel: Will not start this weekend

Keuchel will not start a game this weekend, and is now scheduled to take the mound Tuesday in Cleveland, Angel Verdejo of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Keuchel's scheduled start Friday was pushed back due to fatigue, but he was expected to get the ball either Saturday or Sunday. However, he is still not 100 percent, so he will get a couple more days to rest. Joe Musgrove will start Saturday for the Astros, and Collin McHugh is now lined up to start Sunday.

  • Luis Severino SP | ATH

Yankees' Luis Severino: Recalled from Triple-A

Severino was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes/Barre on Friday.

The 22-year-old hasn't looked anything like the pitcher we saw last year, struggling to a 1-8 record and 7.19 ERA in 12 appearances (nine starts) between a DL stint and several stints in the minor leagues. He could end up making some starts in September, but with Luis Cessa and Chad Green faring reasonably well of late, Severino may be relegated to a multi-inning role out of the bullpen for the time being.

  • Jose Quintana SP | COL

White Sox's Jose Quintana: Strikes out eight, but bombed for seven runs

Quintana (11-10) gave up seven runs on seven hits -- including two homers -- despite striking out eight without a walk over five innings Thursday in Minnesota.

The fifth-year lefty hurler may have been around the plate just a bit too much in this one, and the result was more earned runs than he'd allowed in his prior four starts put together. Thanks to this ugly stat line, his ERA's just back over the 3.00 mark for the first time since mid-July, but that doesn't take much of the shine off the season Quintana's delivered. He's already set a new career mark with those 11 wins and is only 20 short of his career-high 178 strikeouts, set two seasons ago.

  • Marcus Stroman SP | NYY

Blue Jays' Marcus Stroman: Next start bumped up to Friday

Stroman's next start will be moved up from Saturday to Friday against the Rays, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet reports.

Stroman will take Francisco Liriano's scheduled start Friday but the team failed to announce a starter for Saturday's contest. The 25-year-old hurler will look for a better result than his last outing in which he surrendered five runs on nine hits and a walk over six innings.

  • Kevin Ziomek SP | DET

Tigers' Kevin Ziomek: Likely won't pitch again this season

Ziomek has not pitched since May after undergoing surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome, Baseball America's Ben Badler reports.

He made just one start this year with High-A Lakeland prior to needing the surgery. At this point he can safely be ruled out for the rest of the minor league season. This is the same injury that once plagued Jaime Garcia, and even had people writing off Garcia as someone who was unlikely to ever stay healthy over a full season. Thoracic outlet syndrome involves the compression of blood vessels and nerves that extend from the neck to the shoulder. It's possible Ziomek will be ready to pitch in games once spring training arrives, but this is a major setback in his development.

  • Martin Perez SP | ATL

Rangers' Martin Perez: Throws six shutout innings versus Mariners on Wednesday

Perez (9-10) allowed no runs on seven hits, struck out four and walked three over six innings in a victory over the Mariners on Wednesday.

It was a nice bounce back start after he allowed six runs in each of his last two outings. This was the first time since May 24 that Perez threw six shutout frames. He is 9-10 with a 4.30 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 87 strikeouts in 169.2 innings. Perez will face the Mariners again in his next start Wednesday.

  • Ricky Nolasco SP | ARI

Angels' Ricky Nolasco: Tosses first shutout since 2012 Tuesday against Reds

Nolasco (5-12) harnessed his younger self, dominating the Reds in a four-hit shutout Wednesday. He struck out seven.

Nolasco's first win as an Angel was his fifth career shutout, and his first since September of 2012. The righty's seven strikeouts were his most in six starts since debuting with the Angels on Aug. 4. Nolasco was fantastically efficient, throwing 67 of 94 pitches for strikes, including 23 of 30 first-pitch strikes. As great as his outing was, fantasy owners shouldn't put too much stock in the 33-year-old's performance Wednesday. Nolasco is still in the midst of a career-worst season and the Reds lineup is nothing to write home about. He'll make his next start Monday in Oakland.

  • Drew Smyly SP | CHC

Rays' Drew Smyly: Tosses up grand slam in no-decision versus Red Sox on Wednesday

Smyly allowed five runs on seven hits, struck out four and walked two over five innings in a no-decision against the Red Sox on Wednesday.

All the runs he allowed came off the two homers he yielded. First, a solo bomb to Xander Bogaerts and then a grand slam to Hanley Ramirez. Smyly worked his way through five, but by that time, he had lost the lead. Fortunately, Tampa Bay tied the game in the eighth to get Smyly off the hook. He will face another tough matchup in his next start versus the Orioles on Tuesday.
