  • Ricky Nolasco SP | ARI

Twins' Ricky Nolasco: Strikes out six in a loss to Tigers

Nolasco (1-2) allowed four runs (two earned) on nine hits, struck out six and walked one over 5.0 innings in a Tigers loss on Wednesday.

From the very start, things didn't go Nolasco's way. The first batter he faced reached on an infield single, went to second on an error and scored when the next hitter singled. Nolasco only allowed two earned, but he had to work his way out of trouble in every frame. Even still, it was a good outing in the sense that it was the first time since April 21 Nolasco didn't allow more than three runs. His next start will be Monday against the Royals.

  • Tigers' Justin Verlander: Strikes out 10 in victory

Verlander (3-4) allowed three runs on six hits and struck out 10 in a 6-3 victory over the Twins on Wednesday. He also walked three.

During the fourth inning, Verlander recorded the 2,000th strikeout of his career on his way to striking out 10 batters for the second time this season. In his last three outings, he has a combined 27 punchouts. Verlander is still working on lowering his 4.58 ERA, but he does have a very healthy 9.1 K/9. He will look to keep piling up the strikeouts in his next start against the Phillies on Tuesday.

  • Vance Worley SP | NYM

Orioles' Vance Worley: Not available Wednesday

Worley is not available out of the bullpen Wednesday, MASN Sports reports.

Worley pitched three innings Tuesday night and will get the day off Wednesday. He has not allowed a run in 13 innings of relief this season. He may not be happy about being in the bullpen, but the Orioles must be pleased with his results as a long reliever.

  • Mike Clevinger RP | PIT

Indians' Mike Clevinger: Officially recalled to start Wednesday

Clevinger was officially recalled from Triple-A Columbus to start Wednesday against the Reds.

A fourth-round pick in 2011, he has posted a 3.03 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in seven starts for Columbus so far this season. He broke out last year with Double-A Akron, but Clevinger has taken a step back with his control with the move up to Triple-A this year (4.3 BB/9). Clevinger will start opposite Brandon Finnegan in his major league debut, and could end up making several starts while Cody Anderson tries to figure some things out in the minors.

  • Athletics' Henderson Alvarez: Shoulder MRI inconclusive

The MRI on Alvarez's shoulder was inconclusive, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Alvarez played catch Wednesday after undergoing the test, and the throwing session reportedly "went OK." Manager Bob Melvin said the fact that nothing jumped out on the MRI "does give you some optimism," but the team will send Alvarez to see Dr. James Andrews to get a better understanding of what's going on. Alvarez appeared on the verge of a return to the majors before suffering the setback during a rehab appearance.

  • Red Sox's Sean O'Sullivan: Outrighted to Triple-A Pawtucket

O'Sullivan was outrighted to Triple-A Pawtucket on Wednesday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

After being DFA'd on Sunday and subsequently clearing waivers, O'Sullivan was outrighted to Boston's Triple-A affiliate Wednesday. O'Sullivan was unable to get into a rhythm on the mound in his two starts with Boston this season, giving up nine earned runs across 10.1 combined innings. He'll provide organizational depth as either a starter or reliever while at Pawtucket, but he carries little fantasy upside at this point.

  • Athletics' Henderson Alvarez: Throws Wednesday after undergoing MRI

Alvarez was able to throw Wednesday after having an MRI to figure out the root of his recent shoulder pains, John Hickey of the Bay Area News Group reports.

The results of his MRI have yet to be revealed, but seeing him throw shows that Alvarez is headed in the right direction. Alvarez had a stellar 2014 season in which he had a 2.65 ERA, but only threw four games in 2015 before incurring his shoulder injury. He'd thrown 22.2 innings this season at Triple-A Nashville prior to this setback.

  • Marcus Stroman SP | NYY

Blue Jays' Marcus Stroman: Staying positive after first loss

Despite suffering his first loss in 16 starts, Stroman (4-1) is not concerned about his performance, or that of the struggling Jays, MLB.com reports.

Known for his ability to induce groundballs -- Stroman's 62.3 percent groundball rate entering the night was tops qualified pitchers in the American League -- it was that same strength which bit the recent Duke University graduate on Tuesday. While Stroman did get nine groundball outs, he also gave up a majority of his hits on hard-hit ground balls and low line drives, and he saw his 11-game unbeaten streak at home come to an end. "That's part of the game, that's baseball," Stroman said about the frustration of the Rays' hitters finding gaps. "You really have to put it in perspective and know that, and do everything you can to wash the start whether it be good or bad, and focus the next four days preparing for the next one. I realize I'm going to have days like that. I never get discouraged regardless of the outing and never take my starts into the next one."

  • Cole Hamels SP | SD

Rangers' Cole Hamels: Allows three homers in no-decision versus A's

Hamels pitched 6.2 innings, allowing four runs (three earned), nine hits and two walks while striking out six against the Athletics on Tuesday. He gave up three home runs and did not factor in the decision.

After giving up just four home runs over 25 innings in April, the left-hander has now given up five in his last two starts (12.1 innings). Hamels had not given up more than seven hits in a game through his first six starts, but Tuesday was the second consecutive outing in which he allowed nine hits. On a brighter note, Hamels' 9.3 K/9 is the best since his rookie season (2006), he's inducing groundballs at a career-high rate and his 85.7 percent strand rate is well above his career average. He'll toe the rubber next against the Angels on Monday.

  • Carlos Rodon SP | NYY

White Sox's Carlos Rodon: Allows two earned runs in no-decision against Houston

Rodon allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk with seven strikeouts over six innings in a no-decision Tuesday against Houston.

Rodon has three quality starts in his past five appearances and has at least six strikeouts in each of those five starts. The consistency isn't there yet -- he has allowed five runs in three of his eight starts this season. Rodon is racking up the strikeouts, now up to 47 in 45.2 innings, as the 23-year-old is having no trouble missing bats at the MLB level, but his ERA is still an underwhelming 4.73.
