  • Chris Sale SP | ATL

White Sox's Chris Sale: Monday start delayed by day

Sale, who was supposed to start Monday against the Jays, will now start Tuesday, Paul Skrbina of the Chicago Tribune reports.

There does not appear to be any sign of injury here, so manager Robin Ventura may simply be inserting a sport starter to give the remainder of the rotation rest in a month that has featured few off days. Erik Johnson (currently in the bullpen) and Miguel Gonzalez (currently at Triple-A Charlotte) are the top two candidates for Monday's nod.

  • Alex Cobb SP | DET

Rays' Alex Cobb: Transferred to 60-day DL

Cobb (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day DL on Sunday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

It's just a procedural move for the Rays, who likely aren't expecting Cobb to make his return from Tommy John surgery until late July or early August. Cobb's placement on the 60-day DL will open up a roster spot for reliever Jhan Marinez, who had his contract purchased from Triple-A Durham.

  • Cole Hamels SP | SD

Rangers' Cole Hamels: Scratched from Monday's start with groin issue

Hamels was scratched from Monday's scheduled start against the Yankees with left groin soreness, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Hamels missed a start last August due to a similar ailment, but the Rangers don't seem to be overly worried by this latest occurrence. The left-hander isn't expected to miss more than one turn in the rotation, so while he'll miss out on a two-start week, he should be lined up to take the bump during the Rangers' weekend series with the Angels. It's unclear who will replace Hamels on the mound Monday.

  • Red Sox's Eduardo Rodriguez: Throws five innings Saturday

Rodriguez (knee) threw five innings in an extended spring training game Saturday, the Boston Globe reports.

Rodriguez used all of his pitches, and his fastball velocity reached the low 90s, which was good enough to plan his rehabilitation assignment. He's tentatively scheduled to join Double-A Portland and pitch Friday. Manager John Farrell said Rodriguez will need a "minimum of two and possibly three" starts. If it takes two starts, he'll be back around May 3; if three starts are needed, he'll be back around May 9.

  • Matthew Boyd SP | CHC

Tigers' Matt Boyd: Recalled from Triple-A

Boyd has been recalled from Triple-A, reports MLive's Chris Lott.

Boyd has a started three games with the Toledo Mud Hens and has a 2.25 ERA in 16 innings. He has allowed 16 hits, walked five and struck out 16. It's not certain if Boyd will deploy as a starter or in long relief.

  • Blake Snell SP | LAD

    Rays' Blake Snell: Optioned to

Snell was optioned to Triple-A Durham following Saturday's start against the Yankees, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports. He allowed one run over 5.0 innings of work in his debut Saturday, holding the Yankees to just one run while striking out six batters.

Snell lived up to the billing in his debut Saturday with an impressive outing in Yankee Stadium. He settled down after allowing a run to score on a wild pitch in the first inning by cruising through the rest of the outing. He fanned six batters while only walking one and he left the game in line to get the win before the Rays bullpen allowed New York to take the lead. Despite being sent down, Snell showed enough to where he'll definitely warrant consideration for a promotion the next time the Rays need a spot starter.

  • Red Sox's Eduardo Rodriguez: To begin rehab assignment this week

Rodriguez (knee) is set to begin his rehab assignment this week at Double-A Portland, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports.

The young lefty started the year on the disabled list after suffering a patella injury in spring training, but he's been ramping up his activity in sim games and is set to stretch out to 75 pitches in an extended spring training game Saturday. Provided that Saturday's outing goes off without incident, Britton is reporting that Rodriguez could begin his rehab assignment Thursday at Double-A. He will need a minimum of two rehab outings before being activated from the disabled list, which puts him on track for a mid-May return.

  • Red Sox's Eduardo Rodriguez: Minimum of two rehab starts

Rodriguez (knee), who is scheduled to throw 75 pitches in an extended spring training game Saturday, will need at least two starts in the minor leagues before being activated, the Boston Globe reports.

On that schedule, Rodriguez will return to the majors around May 3. Boston's starting rotation has been unreliable early on -- 5.21 ERA, 26th in MLB -- so getting the young lefty back as soon as possible is desirable.

  • Tigers' Justin Verlander: Fans 10 in loss against Indians

Verlander allowed two runs on four hits, walking two and striking out 10 over seven innings of a 2-1 loss against the Indians on Friday night.

Verlander (1-2) who has struggled to a 5.79 ERA to start the season was impressive in defeat. He made just two mistakes - solo home runs by Carlos Santana and Marlon Byrd - but that was enough to saddle him with the loss. He'll look to build on this effort as he faces Oakland at home in his next scheduled outing.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Athletics' Sonny Gray: Logs quality start in win over Toronto

Gray allowed three runs on six hits walking three and striking out seven over seven innings of an 8-5 win against the Blue Jays on Friday night.

Gray (3-1) cruised through five innings, allowing just a solo home run to Darwin Barney, before struggling in the sixth where he walked three and needed 27 pitches to complete the inning. Still, he escaped allowing just one run in that frame and maintained the A's lead as you would hope your ace would do. He'll carry a solid 2.73 ERA into his next start against the Tigers in Detroit.
