Jack Kochanowicz SP | LAA
Angels' Jack Kochanowicz: Solid in spring start Tuesday
Kochanowicz pitched three scoreless innings in a Cactus League contest against Cleveland on Tuesday, allowing three hits and striking out one batter.
Kochanowicz was scratched from his previous start due to an illness, but he looked no worse for wear in his return to the mound. The 24-year-old righty has given up just one earned run while posting a 4:1 K:BB over five innings this spring. Kochanowicz and Reid Detmers are the leading candidates for the Angels' fifth-starter role, with how each pitcher performs in exhibition play likely to determine who gets the job.

Davis Martin SP | CHW
White Sox's Davis Martin: Expected to start Opening Day
Martin is expected to be named the White Sox's Opening Day starter, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Martin has already been named to the rotation, though he's also likely to get the ball March 27 against the Angels. He's enjoyed a sharp start to spring training, maintaining a 5:0 K:BB across four scoreless innings while allowing just one baserunner.

Will Warren P | NYY
Yankees' Will Warren: Looks great again Tuesday
Warren allowed one run on one hit and one walk while striking out four batters over three innings in a Grapefruit League game against Philadelphia on Tuesday.
Warren gave up a solo homer to Max Kepler in the second inning, but that was the only hit that he allowed. The right-hander threw 47 pitches in the outing, 30 of which were strikes, and reached 95.8 mph on his fastball. Warren has been impressive this spring, giving up just one run on two hits and two walks while striking out 11 over eight frames. With Luis Gil (lat) expected to miss extended time at the beginning of the regular season, Warren could find himself in New York's rotation, though Marcus Stroman may be the leading candidate for the team's fifth-starter role given his big-league experience.

Gavin Williams SP | CLE
Guardians' Gavin Williams: Six strikeouts Tuesday
Williams allowed one run on three hits and one walk while striking out six over 2.1 innings in Tuesday's spring start against the Angels.
Williams was off the plate more in his second Cactus League start -- 51 pitches, 31 strikes -- but he baffled opposing batters. He struck out six over his first two innings, and the right-hander induced 14 whiffs. Williams, who has nine strikeouts in 4.1 spring innings, could be a sneaky breakout candidate, per Eno Sarris of The Athletic, who notes that Williams' extension was second in the league last season. That means his pitches get to the plate quicker, and his mid-90s fastball looks faster.

Dakota Hudson SP | LAA
Angels' Dakota Hudson: Cut from big-league camp
The Angels reassigned Hudson to minor-league camp Tuesday.
Hudson tossed two scoreless innings over his lone Cactus League appearance, but he wasn't a serious contender for an Opening Day roster spot after submitting a lowly 6.17 ERA and 1.67 WHIP over his 18 big-league starts with the Rockies in 2024. Assuming he doesn't elect free agency, Hudson will likely open the season as a member of the Triple-A Salt Lake rotation.

Ken Waldichuk SP | WAS
Athletics' Ken Waldichuk: Cleared for bullpen progression
The Athletics announced Tuesday that Waldichuk (elbow) has been cleared to begin a bullpen progression, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
A little under 10 months removed from the Tommy John surgery and internal brace procedure he underwent May 15, 2024, Waldichuk is now ready to resume mound work. Per Gallegos, the Athletics estimated that Waldichuk would require around 13 months of recovery time from surgery, so he could be ready to contribute for the big club at some point in late June or July. Presumably, the Athletics' initial plan is to have Waldichuk get stretched out as a starter during his rehab program, though he could be deployed as a reliever if the team is satisfied with its rotation options by the time he's ready to return from the injured list.

Brady Basso SP | ATH
Athletics' Brady Basso: Shut down with shoulder strain
Basso has been shut down after being diagnosed with a left shoulder strain, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
There's no timetable for when Basso might be ready to return, but it is likely to be a lengthy absence for the left-hander. Basso -- who has thrown 4.1 scoreless and hitless innings this spring -- likely was going to start the season at Triple-A Las Vegas but will now be rehabbing the injury for the foreseeable future.

Quinn Priester SP | MIL
Red Sox's Quinn Priester: Option to take Bello's spot
Priester might open the season in Boston's rotation if Brayan Bello (shoulder) needs time on the injured list, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
It would likely be either Priester or Richard Fitts filling in for Bello, who is working his way back from a shoulder issue. Priester will make his third start this spring Tuesday after allowing one run with a 1:3 K:BB over four frames covering his first two outings. The 24-year-old was acquired from the Pirates at last year's trade deadline in the deal that sent Nick Yorke to Pittsburgh.

Max Fried SP | NYY
Yankees' Max Fried: Hurls 49 pitches in spring debut
Fried tossed 2.1 innings in a Grapefruit League game against Pittsburgh on Monday, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk while striking out two batters.
Fried's stat line in his first appearance in a Yankees uniform wasn't spectacular, though both runs that were charged to him crossed the plate after his third-inning exit. The southpaw threw 31 of his 49 pitches for strikes, with 29 of his offerings being four-seam fastballs and sinkers. Fried is penciled in to join Gerrit Cole atop the Yankees' rotation after signing an eight-year contract with New York during the offseason.

Tarik Skubal SP | DET
Tigers' Tarik Skubal: Looks ready for season
Skubal breezed through three scoreless innings in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Blue Jays. He allowed one hit and struck out three.
Through five innings this spring, Skubal has allowed only two singles and no walks to go along with four strikeouts. The lefty ace looks ready for the regular season, and he'll start the Tigers' Opening Day game March 27 against the Dodgers to kick things off. Skubal was the unanimous American League Cy Young Award winner in 2024 and should be one of the top pitchers in fantasy in 2025.
