  • Astros' Justin Verlander: Strikes out nine in win

Verlander (3-2) allowed two runs (one earned) on eight hits and struck out nine without walking a batter Friday to earn the win over the Athletics.

Verlander has alternated quality starts with shorter outings over his seven outings this season, and this was one of his good ones. The nine strikeouts were a season high, and it was just the second time he hasn't walked a batter this year. The 41-year-old has a 3.60 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 35:14 K:BB through 40 innings. Verlander is projected to make his next start in Seattle.

Overall, the Angels starter sports a 5.60 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 57:24 K:BB in 54.2 innings. He has a 2.95 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 57:19 K:BB over 61 innings through 11 starts on the season. The 31-year-old is projected to make his next start on the road versus the Angels in a favorable matchup.

Astros' Jose Urquidy: Battling additional forearm issues

Urquidy exited his rehab start at Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday due to right forearm discomfort, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Urquidy has been sidelined since spring training due to a strained right forearm, and he seems to have aggravated the issue during his outing Friday. The right-hander was expected to return to the Astros' rotation after Friday's start, but it's unclear how his latest flareup may impact his return timeline.
