  • Bailey Falter RP | ATL

Phillies' Bailey Falter: Recalled as 27th man

Falter was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley as the 27th man to start the second game of Friday's doubleheader against the Nationals.

Falter has been working as a starter in Lehigh Valley this season, and he posted a 2.77 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in 13 innings over two starts after being demoted in late May. However, he'll rejoin the major-league club to make a spot start during Friday's nightcap.

  • Aaron Ashby RP | MIL

Brewers' Aaron Ashby: Early test results encouraging

Manager Craig Counsell described Ashby's injury as more of a fatigue issue following Thursday's loss to the Mets, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

Ashby was diagnosed with left forearm tightness after exiting Thursday's matchup in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Counsell said the southpaw's early examinations didn't reveal anything too concerning. The 24-year-old will be evaluated further Friday, but he's optimistic that he'll be able to make his next scheduled start. If he's deemed healthy enough to pitch, Ashby tentatively lines up to take the mound at home against the Cardinals on Tuesday.

  • Patrick Corbin SP | TOR

Nationals' Patrick Corbin: Nightmarish third inning in loss

Corbin (3-9) took the loss Thursday versus the Phillies. He allowed nine runs (two earned) on eight hits and a walk while striking out two in 3.1 innings.

Corbin retired the first eight batters in order before a two-out error by Cesar Hernandez in the third inning. From there, it all unraveled, as the Phillies rallied for seven unearned runs. They added another pair of runs in the fourth, bouncing Corbin from the game after a brutal start. Despite allowing at least seven hits in each of his last six starts, he's managed to break even with a 3-3 record in that span. He's at a 6.59 ERA, 1.78 WHIP and 51:10 K:BB across 69.2 innings overall through 14 starts. The 32-year-old will look to gain more command next week in a road start at Baltimore.

  • Zack Wheeler SP | PHI

Phillies' Zack Wheeler: Goes seven innings in win

Wheeler (6-3) earned the win Thursday versus the Nationals. He allowed a run on four hits and no walks with three strikeouts in seven innings.

Wheeler won his third straight start, with the only damage on his line this time being a fourth-inning solo home run by Josh Bell. This is the sixth time in 12 starts that Wheeler's limited opponents to one or zero runs, though the three strikeouts were his lowest total since his second start of the year. The right-hander trimmed his ERA to 2.69 with a 1.04 WHIP and 78:15 K:BB across 70.1 innings overall after a poor start to the season. He's projected for a road start versus the Rangers next week.

  • Aaron Ashby RP | MIL

Brewers' Aaron Ashby: Diagnosed with forearm tightness

Ashby exited Thursday's start against the Mets as a precautionary measure due to left forearm tightness, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

Ashby left Thursday's matchup with a trainer in the bottom of the fifth inning after he allowed four runs on four hits and three walks while striking out five in 4.1 innings to begin the game. While forearm tightness can be a concerning diagnosis for a pitcher, the southpaw's velocity remained normal in the fifth inning, and he appeared to be making a case for staying in the game. Ashby will likely be examined further in the coming days to determine the extent of his injury.

  • Tylor Megill SP | NYM

Mets' Tylor Megill: Managing right shoulder discomfort

Megill exited Thursday's start against the Brewers due to right shoulder discomfort, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Megill missed nearly a month due to right biceps inflammation but returned to action late last week. However, he exited Thursday's matchup with a trainer in the top of the fourth inning due to a shoulder issue. The extent of the injury isn't yet clear, but the right-hander will undergo further testing Friday. Prior to his departure Thursday, Megill allowed four runs on four hits and a walk while striking out six in 3.1 innings.

  • Aaron Ashby RP | MIL

Brewers' Aaron Ashby: Departs with trainer

Ashby was removed from Thursday's start against the Mets in the bottom of the fifth inning due to an apparent injury, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Ashby issued a walk before giving up a two-run homer with no outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, and he exited the game with a trainer after forcing a groundout to record the first out of the inning. The nature and severity of his injury aren't yet clear, but any potential absence would be a significant blow to the Brewers' rotation since Brandon Woodruff (hand) and Freddy Peralta (lat) are already on the injured list.

  • Joe Musgrove SP | SD

Padres' Joe Musgrove: Whiffs nine in win

Musgrove (8-0) allowed two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out nine in seven innings to earn the win over the Cubs on Thursday.

Musgrove tossed 14 scoreless innings over his last two starts, but he allowed runs in the first and second innings during Thursday's outing at Wrigley Field. However, he struck out a season-high nine batters and got help from the Padres' offense to pick up his third consecutive win. The 29-year-old has yet to be charged with a loss this season and has been especially dominant over his last five starts, posting a 0.79 ERA and 34:11 K:BB in 34 innings during that time. He tentatively lines up to make his next start at home against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

  • Tylor Megill SP | NYM

Mets' Tylor Megill: Exits with trainer

Megill was removed from Thursday's game against the Brewers in the top of the fourth inning due to an apparent injury, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Megill tossed three scoreless frames to begin Thursday's matchup but allowed four baserunners -- including a home run -- in the top of the fourth inning before leaving the game with a trainer. The right-hander displayed decreased velocity in that frame, but the nature and severity of his injury aren't yet clear.

  • Quinn Priester SP | MIL

Pirates' Quinn Priester: Activated at Double-A

Priester (oblique) was activated from the 7-day injured list at Double-A Altoona and will pitch Sunday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

He will take the rotation spot of Mike Burrows, who was just promoted to Triple-A Indianapolis. Priester has been making rehab starts in the lower minors and gave up five earned runs with four strikeouts in 5.2 innings across two appearances. He may still have some rust to knock off early on at Double-A, having not pitched at all this season between spring training and his rehab assignment.
