  • Mike Soroka SP | ARI

Braves' Mike Soroka: Set for surgery

Soroka will undergo surgery on his torn right Achilles' tendon within the next week, Gabe Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Soroka landed awkwardly after throwing a pitch Monday against the Mets and had to be helped off the field. He'll miss at minimum the rest of this season, and a longer recovery timeline could see him miss time at the start of the 2021 campaign as well. The Braves have yet to announce who will take his place in the rotation.

  • Chris Paddack RP | TEX

Padres' Chris Paddack: Earns win over Dodgers

Paddack (2-0) earned the win in Monday's 5-4 victory over the Dodgers. He gave up three runs on five hits -- including one home run -- while fanning five across six innings.

Paddack tossed his second quality start of the season -- in three outings -- and has earned the win both times he's reached that feat. Paddack has allowed homers in back-to-back starts, but he has limited the damage while racking up 15 strikeouts in just 17 innings across his first three appearances. His next scheduled start will come Aug. 9 at home against Madison Bumgarner and the Diamondbacks.

  • Dodgers' Walker Buehler: No-decision Monday

Buehler didn't factor into the decision in Monday's contest against the Padres. He allowed three runs on three hits -- all of them home runs -- and three walks while striking out three across five innings.

Buehler has not been pitching all that well to start the year, as he has given up five runs while allowing four homers and four walks and striking out six in 8.2 innings across his first two starts. Buehler will try to bounce back in his next scheduled start, Aug. 9 at home against the Giants.

  • Jacob deGrom SP | TEX

Mets' Jacob deGrom: Fans 10 in win

DeGrom (1-0) picked up the win Monday in a 7-2 victory over Atlanta, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out 10.

For once, the Mets gave their ace plenty of run support, and deGrom didn't let it go to waste. He continues to flash career-best velocity, hitting triple digits on the radar gun five times Monday, in addition to his arsenal of nasty breaking and off-speed pitches. DeGrom will look to extend his quality start streak to three in his next outing, scheduled for Sunday at home against the Marlins.

  • Johnny Cueto SP | LAA

Giants' Johnny Cueto: Yields three runs in no-decision

Cueto allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks across five innings Monday, striking out four in a loss to Colorado. He did not factor into the decision.

Cueto rolled through five innings before he coughed up a single to Charlie Blackmon and a two-run homer to Nolan Arenado to start the sixth inning. The 34-year-old righty owns a 4.97 ERA and 11:6 K:BB over 12.2 innings this season. Cueto will get a tough road start against the Dodgers on Saturday.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Reds' Sonny Gray: Improves to 3-0

Gray (3-0) was charged with two runs (one earned) on four hits over six innings in a win over Cleveland on Monday. He struck out eight and issued two walks.

The right-hander was a little off his game early on but bounced back in a major way, allowing just one hit over his final four innings. With that, Gray extended his streak of consecutive starts with six or fewer hits allowed to 36, the longest streak in MLB history. Opponents are batting just .129 against Gray through 18.2 innings, and he has an outstanding 28:5 K:BB. He will get his first road test of the season this weekend in Milwaukee.

  • Mike Soroka SP | ARI

Braves' Mike Soroka: Suffers torn Achilles

Soroka suffered a torn right Achilles tendon in Monday's game against the Mets and will miss the rest of the season.

This was the worst-case scenario, but it seemed likely given the fact that Soroka couldn't walk off the field under his own power. He suffered the injury while bouncing off the mound to field a groundball. In 2015, Adam Wainwright missed five months with a torn Achilles while Jason Grilli missed nine. Zach Britton missed almost seven months in 2018 after undergoing the procedure. Ian Anderson and Tucker Davidson are options to be promoted from the Braves' alternate training site to take Soroka's spot in the rotation.

  • Mike Soroka SP | ARI

Braves' Mike Soroka: Helped off field Monday

Soroka landed awkwardly after throwing a pitch in Monday's game against the Mets and was helped off the field with one out in the top of the third inning. There were runners on first and third and Soroka had already allowed three runs on three hits and four walks prior to exiting.

David O'Brien of The Athletic noted that the hope is that it's not his Achilles tendon, as he could not seem to put weight on his left leg as he exited the field.

  • Jose Quintana SP | COL

Cubs' Jose Quintana: Throws another bullpen

Quintana (thumb) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Monday, Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com reports.

After tossing 38 pitches Saturday, Quintana once again felt good after throwing 30 pitches Monday. Barring any setbacks, he should be on track to make his season debut in the near future. He'll likely try building up his pitch count in upcoming throwing sessions since he's been solid through his first several outings. However, no timetable has been announced for his return.

  • Aaron Nola SP | PHI

Phillies' Aaron Nola: Tuesday's start postponed

Nola won't make his scheduled start Tuesday against the Yankees, as the game has been postponed due to threats of severe weather.

The Yankees and Phillies are expected to be able to get Monday's game in but will move Tuesday's contest to Wednesday, where it will be part of a doubleheader in Philadelphia. The Phillies haven't officially announced their plans, but Nola will presumably start one of those two games. Nola has started just once this season, as the Phillies were held out of action for the entirety of last week while the league waited to determine whether or not they'd been caught up in the Marlins' coronavirus outbreak.
