  • Scott Copeland SP | NYM

    Mets' Scott Copeland: Clears waivers

Copeland was assigned to Double-A Binghamton on Sunday after he cleared waivers, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Copeland didn't draw much interest after being designated for assignment Friday, so he'll head down to the Mets' minor-league system. In one appearance at the major-league level, he tossed 1.1 scoreless innings and recorded two strikeouts.

  • Reds' Anthony DeSclafani: To come off DL on Tuesday

DeSclafani (oblique) will be activated from the 60-day disabled list and start Tuesday's game against the Rockies, John Fay of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

DeSclafani is set to make his season debut after wrapping up his fourth minor-league rehab start Wednesday. The righty allowed 10 runs over 19.1 innings between Double-A Pensacola and Triple-A Louisville during his assignment. The injury-plagued DeSclafani has not appeared in a major-league contest since Sept. 28, 2016. He posted a 3.28 ERA in his last full season in the big leagues.

  • Johnny Cueto SP | LAA

Giants' Johnny Cueto: Ramps up throwing program

Cueto (elbow) threw from 120 feet off flat ground Sunday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.

Cueto has slowly increased his throwing activity over the last several days and is now scheduled to throw a bullpen session next weekend. Manager Bruce Bochy is optimistic that Cueto will be able to return from the disabled list at the end of June, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

  • Mets' Noah Syndergaard: On track for return next weekend

Syndergaard (finger) threw a light bullpen session Sunday, NY Daily News Sports reports.

Sunday marked Syndergaard's first throwing session since being placed on the disabled list Tuesday with a strained ligament in his right index finger. He'll throw to batters Tuesday and -- barring any setbacks -- will likely return to the mound next Sunday against the Yankees.

  • Drew Rucinski SP | ATH

Marlins' Drew Rucinski: Receives call to bigs

Rucinski had his contract selected Sunday, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports.

Rucinski will join the big-league bullpen in replacement of the struggling Jarlin Garcia, who was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans on Sunday. Rucinski held a 2.52 ERA over 25 innings of relief with New Orleans this season.

  • Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: Confirmed for Tuesday's start

Martinez (lat) will be activated from the disabled list and start Tuesday's game against the Marlins, Jim Hayes of FOX Sports Midwest reports.

Martinez will make his anticipated return to the Cardinals' rotation after missing the past four weeks with a right lat strain. The ace made one minor-league rehab start, allowing two runs while striking out four over four innings with Double-A Springfield on Thursday. He should be immediately plugged back into fantasy lineups upon his return as he draws a favorable matchup against an exploitable Marlins team.

  • Austin Gomber SP | TEX

Cardinals' Austin Gomber: Impressive in MLB debut

Gomber grabbed his first hold in Saturday's win over the Pirates, firing three scoreless innings in which he issued a walk and recorded two strikeouts.

The 24-year-old lefty breezed through his first three big-league frames on an efficient 32 pitches, impressively getting through the heart of the Pirates order unscathed over his first pair of innings while often using his trademark overhand curveball. Gomber had already been up from Triple-A Memphis once earlier this season, but he hadn't logged any appearances. It remains to be seen how long his current stay will last, but manager Mike Matheny emphasized after the game that the Cardinals "want to see what we've got" with the young southpaw, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports, especially considering that left-handed hitters have slugged .520 against same-handed relievers Tyler Lyons and Brett Cecil.

  • Luke Farrell RP | WAS

Cubs' Luke Farrell: Picks up win in Saturday's marathon

Farrell (2-2) was the winning pitcher in Saturday's 14-inning game against the Mets. He tossed five scoreless innings of relief and allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Farrell came on in the ninth inning and got his team all the way through the 13th, which helped the Cubs only use five pitchers versus the eight trotted out by New York. The 26-year-old will undoubtedly be unavailable Sunday after recording a season high in innings pitched, but his effort should allow other Chicago relievers to be ready.

  • Jacob deGrom SP | TEX

Mets' Jacob deGrom: Another brilliant start wasted Saturday

DeGrom didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 7-1 extra-innings loss to the Cubs, allowing one run on seven hits and two walks over seven innings while striking out 13.

The right-hander tied his season high in K's while dropping his ERA to an NL-low 1.49, but it was all for naught once again as the Mets fell in 14 innings. With a 1.04 WHIP and 98:21 K:BB through 72.1 innings, deGrom is delivering ace-worthy fantasy numbers everywhere but in wins, where his 4-0 record stands in stark contrast to his eight quality starts in 12 outings. He'll next take the mound Saturday at home against the Yankees.

  • Rockies' German Marquez: Fans eight in Saturday's no-decision

Marquez didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 12-4 loss to the Dodgers, allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks over six innings while striking out eight.

The 23-year-old tied his season high in strikeouts while throwing 71 of 114 pitches for strikes and generating 17 swinging strikes, an impressive number for a start at Coors Field. Marquez will take a 4.38 ERA into his next outing Friday at home against the Diamondbacks.
