  • Vance Worley SP | NYM

Marlins' Vance Worley: Lasts four innings Friday

Worley gave up three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three over four innings in Friday's 7-4 win over the Reds.

He was able to throw 70 pitches (41 strikes) in his longest big-league outing since late May, although he wasn't overly effective. Worley will likely get another turn or two in the rotation, but he'll be a very risky fantasy play in his next start Wednesday at home against the dangerous Nationals.

  • Marlins' Merandy Gonzalez: Shipped to Marlins

Gonzalez was traded, along with Ricardo Cespedes (undisclosed), to the Marlins on Friday in exchange for A.J. Ramos.

The 21-year-old phenom has put together an impressive 2017 minor-league campaign, posting a 1.55 ERA over 11 starts with Low-A Columbia before being promoted to High-A St. Lucie in late June. He's continued his hot streak at the next tier, racking up a 2.23 ERA and 1.13 WHIP through six innings. Gonzalez provides strong organizational depth for the Marlins, but likely remains a couple years away from the big leagues.

  • Robbie Ray SP | SD

Diamondbacks' Robbie Ray: Heads to hospital for further testing

Ray was alert after being removed from Friday's game with a head injury but was sent to a local hospital for further evaluations.

The good news here is that Ray was conscious and able to speak with trainers following the scary incident, though medical tests should provide a more detailed diagnosis. In a scary incident, the southpaw was struck in the head by a 108 mph line drive off the bat of Luke Voit, prompting his immediate removal from the game. Ray slots in as the scheduled starter for next Thursday's road tilt with the Cubs, but his status will largely depend on his upcoming medical diagnosis.

  • Jake Thompson SP | PHI

Phillies' Jake Thompson: Fires five shutout innings Friday

Thompson (1-0) allowed no runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five across five innings to earn the win Friday against the Braves.

Thompson was making the start for Jeremy Hellickson, who was scratched less than half an hour before the game began. However, Thompson came up big while also receiving plenty of run support as he left the contest with an 8-0 lead. It was assumed that when he was recalled from Triple-A on July 25 that he'd work out of the bullpen, so fantasy managers will need to wait and see if any further clarification is upcoming regarding his role. For now, his next start has yet to be determined.

  • Julio Teheran SP | BAL

Braves' Julio Teheran: Roughed up for eight runs in Friday loss

Teheran (7-9) allowed eight runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out five over 4.2 innings to take the loss Friday against the Phillies.

Teheran was pitching well until giving up three homers and a total of seven runs in a disastrous fifth inning, leading to his ninth loss of the campaign. Although he has a brutal 5.09 ERA, he came into this contest allowing just four runs over his last 19.1 innings covering three starts, so he's recently been an effective fantasy option. He's prone to having horrendous outings, but if fantasy owners can live with the downside, the majority of his starts over the past two months have been solid. He'll make his next start Wednesday against the Dodgers.

  • Johnny Cueto SP | LAA

Giants' Johnny Cueto: Will require rehab outing

Cueto (finger) will throw a bullpen Friday and make one rehab start prior to being reinstated from the DL, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Earlier reports had indicated that Cueto could be ready to start Monday's series opener against the A's, but he will instead head out on a short rehab assignment prior to returning. The outing should provide a chance for the veteran starter to make sure everything feels okay before he comes back, likely a smart decision considering an injury-plagued July which has seen him make just two starts due to ear and finger problems. Cueto projects to be back in the Giants' rotation sometime next weekend against Arizona, barring any setbacks.

  • Chris Paddack RP | TEX

Padres' Chris Paddack: Throwing bullpen sessions

Paddack (elbow) is throwing bullpen sessions and could be ready for 2018 spring training, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Paddack underwent Tommy John surgery last July, but remains one of the top prospects in the Padres' organization despite missing all of the 2017 season. The 21-year-old righty will continue building back his velocity heading into the offseason with the hopes of getting back to minor-league action next year.

  • Robbie Ray SP | SD

Diamondbacks' Robbie Ray: Removed after taking liner to head

Ray exited Friday's game against the Cardinals after taking a line drive to the head.

In a scary situation, Ray immediately went to the ground after being hit by a line drive off the bat of Luke Voit and left the field holding a towel to his head. The southpaw had gotten through just 1.2 scoreless innings before the incident, after which T.J. McFarland took over on the mound. Ray encouragingly gave a thumbs up to the crowd as he was carted off the diamond, and the team will likely release more information once trainers have a chance to make a firm evaluation.

  • Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Cleared to play catch

Kershaw (back) was cleared to play catch ahead of schedule Friday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Manager Dave Roberts said the ace pitcher is ahead of his original timetable, adding the recovery process could take 4-to-6 weeks, barring any setbacks. Regardless, it's a small but positive step for Kershaw, putting him on track for a late-August return if all continues to go well. Brock Stewart will continue filling in as the fifth starter until Brandon McCarthy (finger) is able to return.

  • Corbin Burnes SP | ARI

Brewers' Corbin Burnes: Injures knee in Double-A start

Burnes is day-to-day after injuring his knee during his start with Double-A Biloxi on Thursday night, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

The right-hander was fielding a groundball when he slipped on the wet grass. The issue doesn't sound like anything too serious, but more information on his status moving forward should come forth soon enough.
